Three Sock Monkeys walked into a bar...

These guys could have fun anywhere! Here we have a listing for 1, one, just to be clear, "uno" sock monkey ornament. I know there are three in the picture, but they are so fun to photograph together.

He is made of polymer clay and jointed with beads and wire. I have hung him on a pretty red ribbon, and these guys are not just for Christmas trees, mind you. You'll enjoy him so much that you will want him hanging around all year!

He can sit, hang, and lay down for a nap (don't expect him to sleep though). His tail is wired to move out for sitting.

Remember the wonderful animated "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" movie from childhood? I loved watching it each year when it came on TV, back in the days before DVDs and DVRs.

I was thinking about what to do for the winter theme challenge for PCAGOE, and the winter warlock came to mind. He refused to leave until I sculpted him.

I considered doing the tamer "Mr. Winter", which is what the Warlock turned into after Kris Kringle presented him with a toy train and they went frolicking arm in arm singing "Put one foot in front of the other...".

But winter to me means blowing winds, cold temperatures, blizzards and the like (I was raised in Northern Iowa), so the warlock fits the theme in my mind.

Winter Warlock is made of polymer clay with a foil and wire armature. His tunic is fabric and his hair is a mixture of Tibetan lambs wool and polyester fur. He has been painted with acrylic paints. He is 8" tall and his arm span is 7" wide.

Frog Prince and Throne

I love the tale of the Frog Prince, and here he is in all his splendor, the FP himself.

When standing, FP is 10.5" high. He has bendable arms and legs for sitting and posing (and he is quite a poser). He is made from mixed materials, including polymer clay, fabrics, wire, rhinestones, beads, and buttons.

His throne is mostly polymer clay made to represent aged wood. It has been stamped and antiqued with turquoise paint, then glazed lightly with a non toxic glaze. The cushion is purple velvet with an antique button in the center and pink silky trim.

The Frog Prince holds a scepter made from bamboo, vintage lucite beads, art beedz, and vintage gold beads. The scepter is attached to his hand with "mini hold", which is a tacky removable goo made for holding miniatures in place.

The back of the throne has a little twig sticking out and on it is a sign reading "Free Kisses". He is still hoping for his princess to show up and turn him back to the handsome prince he once was.

Awards: *Frog Prince was chosen for the Indie Craft Display at the CHA 2009 Winter Convention & Trade Show. The Show took place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim , CA from January 25-28, 2009.*

BatMan -A Rare Specimen

This rare specimen is one of a kind. It is part man, part bat, and perfectly preserved in a shadow box.

The bat man came to me after a nightmare. I woke up in a terror, and I had been working on this art doll's face, not knowing he would be a bat). I had the idea to make him into a batman because bats are so sweet and innocent, yet so misunderstood by humanity. I used a page photocopied out of my 1914 prayer book to make the a spiral collage, and put the piece in a shadow box. There is no glass on front.

How I made the art doll:

This is an original art doll and shadowbox collage by me, Waxela (wa-shay-la) Sananda.

I sculpted the face and torso first with polymer clay, using glass eyes. I thought for days about what to make him into. His face has a sweetness and an innocent look. I considered a monk, I settled on a bat.

I first researched the body structure of a bat. I sculpted the bone structure of the wings and added them to his torso. I decided to use liquid sculpey for the wings. They were a challenge and I baked them no less than a dozen times to get them the consistency I desired. Now they are elastic and membrane-like, a little flexible. I sculpted each tiny claw and got a wonderful bat claw effect.

I collaged in pieces from my prayer book after digitally creating the spiral effect. I chose the title "I Will Wash My Hands Among the Innocent" because that is the quote under the bat's left wing.

The shadowbox is 9"x11"
The bat art doll has a 7" wingspan.

Twisted Tree Troll is a one of a kind OOAK mixed media art doll by me, Waxela Sananda. His body is a piece of twisted driftwood. His face, hands, feet, and the frog are polymer clay. Other materials include bamboo, feathers, copper wire, weeds, string, silk flower petals, and acrylic paints.

Twisted Tree Troll is mounted on a slab of cut and polished stone. He is just over 6" tall.

Who is Green Man?

He seems to have manifest right here before my eyes as I started sculpting this nature spirit!

Wikipedia says Green Man is a symbol of rebirth, or "renaissance," representing the cycle of growth each spring.

Kathleen Jenks, Ph.D. says:

"The Green Man is that spirit, energy, presence, inherent in every cell of the vegetative realm, and transmitted to the animal/human realms through the foods we eat, the flowers we smell, the trees we hug. He is Pan."

And here is his representation, created by me, Waxela Sananda, from driftwood, bamboo, feathers, polymer clay, beads, copper wire, weeds and acrylic paints.

He is just over 5" tall.

This is a 6" tall sock monkey wedding cake topper.

The flowers for this one are Gerbera daisy and calla lilies, and roses in autumn colors, orange yellow and brown.

I can make you a custom topper with your choice of colors and flowers. The groom can have a bow tie or a long tie.

This topper stands almost 6" high and 3.75" across the base.

It will take me 10 days to two weeks to complete, and please allow for shipping time too.

Isaura is up to her old tricks. She is well known for casting menacing spells on whomever she comes across. People, animals, wizards, other witches...even the trees are not safe from her skillful pranks.

What kind of spell is she concocting this time? With a cauldron full of eyeballs, bat wings, worms, and lizard tongues, this is sure to be her best brew yet!

* This is a one of a kind (OOAK) mixed media art doll, sculpture, and shadowbox by myself, Waxela (wa-shay-la) Sananda. All parts are hand made by me, no molds or prefabricated pieces were used, with the exception of the box itself, which is a reused drawer from a wooden box.

The broom attached to the side of the box is made of bamboo and wheat. The cat on top is removable and may be placed inside the box if you like him there. Isaura the witch herself is also removable because I love to look at my creations from all angles. The cauldron, cat, and stone pedestal are all polymer clay. Isaura is polymer clay, fabric, a hematite bead hangs from her hat.

Mambo the Clown is a handmade one of a kind original art doll by me, Waxela (wa-shay-la) Sananda. He stands a bit over 18" tall with his pointy hat.

Mambo's face is polymer clay, as well as his boots and doll, Rosie. His body is made from a wood and wire armature wrapped with fabric. He is bendable at all joints and should be supported if left standing. His clothing is made from repurposed clothes, polymer clay boots, and vintage lucite flower buttons with clay faces.

Green Metallic Prajna Paramita Buddhist Goddess Pendant Small

Prajna Paramita is known as the mother of the Buddhas. Her name means "Perfection of Wisdom" in Sanskrit.

I created this pendant by first making a mold from a piece of broken buddhist temple tile that was given to me years ago. The pendant is made of green polymer clay on which I used metallic powder and gave it a clear gloss coating. The final product appears to be green metal.

The bail is vintage and shaped like a leaf.

It is 2" long.

Green Tara Buddhist Goddess on Golden Lotus

The Goddess Tara is a female Buddha and a deity on which to meditate. She is considered to be the goddess of universal compassion, and of virtuous and enlightened activity.

Tara burns with a desire to save humanity from suffering.

Tara was the daughter of a king. Because of her spiritual attainments, the monks and nuns offered to pray that she be reborn as a man to spread Buddhist teachings. Tara replied that she wished to remain in female form to serve other beings until all have reached enlightenment.

She reported that there exists no male and no female, that nothing exists in reality, exposing the monk's mistake in appointing only male preachers in the Buddhist religion. For this Tara might be considered one of the earliest feminists.

Green Tara’s color symbolizes youthful vigor and activity. She holds a blue lotus in each hand, symbolizing purity and power.

Tara's mantra is "Om Tare Tuttare Ture Swaha" (pronounced: "Om Ta-Ray Too-Ta-Ray Too-Ray-So-Ha")
Translation: "I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, and in Tara!"

This is an original art doll by myself, Waxela (wa-shay-la) Sananda. I took inspiration from the many goddess images I have seen of Tara, and I love the image of a powerful, female Buddha.

Tara is made of polymer clay and mixed media (see materials below), and much love, care, and attention has gone into her creation. I worked on her for two months before I declared her complete. This sculpture is just over 7 inches tall, and the lotus flower is about 6" diameter.

Find Your Zen - a meditation altar box -

This is an altar in a vintage box. My intention was to create an ultimately serene scene to enhance meditation, peacefulness, and bliss.

A Buddha, or perhaps a monk sits among a grove of bamboo in silent meditation on one side. A giant "OM" symbol is rising like the sun behind him. The Buddha's feet are extra large to represent groundedness within enlightenment.

The other side shows a nature scene with a spiraling tree full of leaves, flowers, a frog, and butterflies. I was inspired to do this piece for a Chinese new years exhibition at the Austin (TX)Chinese Temple themed "Welcoming the Spring". It was displayed there from Feb 9-17th, and during the show it was discovered by a writer for the Chinese World Journal. She took a picture of it and interviewed me, and this piece was featured in the publication in February. I have included a picture of that article.

The box is an olive green vintage box with wonderful green velvety lining and angels decoupaged on top! I used the box just as I found it, the lining and decoupage were already in place. Polymer clay, vintage lucite and glass beads, a vintage ruby rhinestone in his third eye chakra, and other mixed media create this scene. The box is still closeable and will be shipped closed with lots of packaging.

About the "OM":
"OM" represents the Sanskrit letters or symbol for the sacred Hindu sound om (ohm or aum) called "the mother of all mantras". The four parts of the OM symbol represent the four stages of consciousness: awake, sleeping, dreaming, and a trance or transcendental state.

Chanting the sound of om, which sounds like "aum" in meditation is a way to open up to higher spiritual levels, bringing about peace, mental clarity, and even bliss.

The pendant is made of polymer clay which I antiqued and gave it a clear gloss coating with a bit of bronzer. The final product appears to be in between stone and metal. I make these pendants as they are ordered. Each Prajna pendant is unique and one of a kind, and may differ slightly from the photo.

The bail is vintage and shaped like a leaf. I have initialed and dated the back.

I can also custom make this pendant in your desired color, and you may specify gold or silver bail. If you do not specify I will choose bail color, and the Prajna will be gold.

It is approx. 2 2/3" long.

Sarah has a broken heart, her lover has left her with nothing but a box of memories.

Sarah comes with her box of memories, containing a photograph of her lost love, some dried flowers from their first date, a letter from him, and a tiny white ring box.

Sarah is a one of a kind art doll sculpted by myself, Waxela Sananda. She is a mixed media sculpture (see materials box) and she sits only 4.5" tall. She took me about 22 hours to complete.

Here I have some wonderful skull earrings with sterling silver earwires and vintage black faceted glass beads. The skulls are polymer clay which I stamped, cut, baked, painted, buffed, and glazed for your enjoyment. The backs are painted with shiny enamel black acrylic paint. The sugar skull design was drawn by me and I had a stamp made from my drawing.

They hang 2.75" long
1.5" wide

They are very light weight and will not hurt your ears, but I can't promise that they will behave or that they won't bite you while you're sleeping ;-)

Here is Skelly engraved on a bamboo tile. He is a skeleton ready for Dia de los Muertos and he's got his best guitar tunes ready to go.

Bamboo has natural grains, like wood, and the dark lines you may see in this picture are just part of the bamboo grain, it is not cracked and it will not compromise the integrity of the pendant.

Owl Perched in the Old Oak Tree Original ACEO

A turquoise owl is perched in an old oak tree on this textured clay original ACEO. The owl has topaz colored Swarovski crystal rhinestones for eyes. I hand sculpted the tree, and the owl was done with a rubber stamp which I cut out and embellished.

This "card" has some thickness, so you probably won't be putting it in a flat album. The entire piece is done in textured polymer clay and I have antiqued, painted, sanded, glazed, and buffed it to perfection! Instead of creating it on paperboard I chose to make it two layers of clay, and the back is done in turquoise textured polymer clay, as shown in the last picture. The size is 2.5" x 3.5" of course.

This is one of my first ACEO's (Art Cards Editions and Originals)I'm proud to announce. I knew I would love this art style because I love miniature works and it suits polymer clay so well.
