Ok, time for True Confessions. I made this wrong… I glanced at the pattern and thought I knew what I was doing… But in the end, I really like this effect. The bracelet is actually supposed to lie flat (I think~I haven’t tried the actual correct way to do this yet…) but I love that when it’s on your wrist, it forms a little tunnel. Which reminds me of a ride at a place called Canobie Lake, that was basically a roller coaster with a canvas top, called the Caterpiller.

I created this bracelet with gold and purple aluminum jump rings, so it’s very lightweight.

Peace and Love, Man! 2008 is the 50th anniversary of the Peace Symbol, so here's my commemoration in beads. I started with a peace symbol charm in the middle, two surf boards with peace signs at the ends and a couple of love charms, then I just filled in the rest of the chain with all kinds of beads in the cool color range. It makes the neatest sound when it moves, a little like wind chimes. I figure there are at least 50 beads/bead combo's on this necklace, which makes it a substantial weight but not so heavy that it's uncomfortable. The majority of the beads were attached with wrapped loops, which take longer than plain loops, but are much more secure. And please be aware that the majority of beads are glass so handle and wear with care!

I bought the bird beads completely separately from the ones that resemble jars but they’re wonderful together in this asymmetrical design. I love experimenting with colored jump rings. In this necklace, the red, black and silver colors came first, in a Byzantine patterns, then those wicked cool netted beads. I bought three at a fave bead shop, knowing I’d find the perfect project for them someday. Well, someday is now and this necklace is really bold and beautiful. I surrounded the beads with shiny silver embellishments and black onyx beads.

Measuring 20 ½”, the aluminum jump rings make it fairly light but the beads themselves, while not heavy, add substance to the design. A textured toggle clasp is the perfect finishing touch.

The last of the cool crosses I found at a yard sale, this is definitely the one with the most bling. When I was making the chain, I picked up on the pinks and greens and added just a few of those colors to the chain to pick up the colors in the rhinestones.

I made the box chain with aluminum jump rings, mostly in silver. Because it’s aluminum, it’s really light while looking extremely substantial.

The cross itself measures 2 ½” and the necklace is 18”.

Here’s one of my Charm N Bead pieces with an Ice Storm theme, appropriate since when I was creating it, my old stomping grounds in Massachusetts was actually getting an ice storm! I picked beads with icy or foggy colors, mostly clear and white but some blue. My apologies for my photography--trying to photograph this mix of beads was tough, especially the ones with aurora borealis finishes. The focal bead is a hand blown artisan piece of clear glass.

All of the beads were attached with wrapped loops, which take longer than plain loops, but are much more secure.

Even though I’ve never been surfing, I hear that riding the waves can be really peaceful and here’s proof. Here’s one of my Charm N Bead pieces, based on the pewter pendant I‘m upcycling for this project, which, when you look closely, is full of crosses and hearts. Say A Little Prayer Necklace with Prayer Box

This bright red necklace features a Prayer Box. Write a little prayer or words of inspiration and tuck them in the Prayer Box to have with you.

The red beads are Malasia Jade, which I understand are basically marbles. They have a translucent quality, with a light shine. Included also are faceted glass beads, foiled glass beads, silver toned accents and a heart theme silver toggle. The Prayer Box is silver toned, with silver crosses and gold hearts and is intricately carved, even on the bottom!

The necklace measures 19 1/2" (49.53cm) and the Prayer Box is 3/4" (1.905cm) high and 5/8" (1.55cm) across the bottom. It's an unusually heavy piece, with the Prayer Box and the two silver toned accents.

I love purple and thought it would look quite lush with the gold chain. I made the chain in a pretty flower pattern and it gives such texture to the piece. Faceted purple glass, gold tone accents and toggle complete this delicate but striking necklace.

I love combining the different colors of aluminum jump rings. In this case, I started by upcycling this gorgeous cross and created the pink and silver necklace in the Byzantine weave to match it. The cross is so pretty and feminine, I wanted to give it something just as light and delicate to complement it.

When I sat down to create this necklace, I started with the focal piece. I’d found it at a yard sale and loved it. It sat in my goodie box for a long time, just waiting for the perfect project. I added the chain and attached the faux pearl “charms” with wrapped loops. Then I realized that one pearl was missing from the focal. I was so upset! But, without even having to get up, I spied an old earring with a sparkly dangle. Miraculously, that little sparkle fit perfectly in the empty space!

This dainty choker measures 17” and is finished with a gold tone toggle.

I did some experimenting with random design, which may sound easy but I’m a lover of symmetry so this was kinda scary. Separating out all my blue and green beads of all kinds, I started stringing and this is what I came up with. If memory serves, I purchased these beads from an artisan in South Carolina and they really are little works of art. Lately I’ve been having fun finding old jewelry and repurposing as new jewelry. I found this Victorian looking focal piece and created a necklace for it out of what’s called Spectra glass. I believe it’s a glass bead that’s coated with textured color, in this case, different Metal colors. I also threw in some faceted amber colored glass and a few seed beads, finishing with a gold toned swirly toggle.

The focal piece is about an inch and a half long and an inch at the widest place. The necklace itself is about 16” (40.64cm) long. Fun to wear with just about anything but think about your autumn colors now!
