GAWAIN - needle felted Scottish Fold cat PRITTEN

$350.00
Far Far Away in the depths of the Intimate Forest live Prittens, small cats of a very charming and endearing nature. So remote is their habitat that few are aware of their existence but lately nems (humans) have been cutting down the trees and are moving ever closer to the Prittens' home. Mommet, goddess of animals, has promised to forever protect the Prittens and is using the ritual enchantment of Bonanzle to summon worthy rescuers to adopt and care for her precious Prittens.

GAWAIN is a handsome red and white Scottish Fold Pritten with sparkling green eyes. GAWAIN, as you may guess from his photo, is a hunter of meeses and very skilled he is too!! He contemplated going after the Holy Grail but since he was unsure what a grail was he decided to Hold a meese by its Tail instead. It rhymes: Grail and Tail and GAWAIN thinks that is close enough to qualify as a quest worthy of a Pritten named after one of the Knights of the Round Table. (GAWAIN prefers a circular table to have a hole in the middle so that it resembles a donut.)

GAWAIN is about 5" long x 6" high x 2.75" wide. He fits most comfortably in Mommet's hand.

Modred Mousie is about 1.75" from feet to nose.

Please raise your hand and take this oath: Now repeat after me: I promise that what I am about to read I will never reveal to a Pritten. I will not convey this information in any form, written, verbal, recorded, sandscripted, or hyroglyphed to a Pritten. I understand that to do so would cause the greatest of all possible harm to the Prittens and I will absolutely cause Prittens no harm!

GAWAIN was constructed by an artist named Harlan. GAWAIN is made of fine wool batting, merino wool, silk fiber for the fur, glass eyes, monofilament for whiskers, the teeniest bit of glue to keep whiskers and eyes in place. Harlan dyed the silk by hand. Needle Felting is a time consuming art form. Merino wool is so fine that it is difficult to felt without a lot of additional effort. Harlan favors the beautiful finish that this particular wool roving provides. There are over 25 hours of labor just applying the fur, strand by strand and more than twice that to create Gawain as photographed. No patterns are ever used. Harlan may start off with some particular pose in mind but each Pritten ends up deciding for themselves just how they will be.

For those of you who were following my work and may recall that my husband was in the hospital: he has finally come home, one year and one month to the day he entered! He is recovering but is now confined to a wheel chair and is trying very hard to be more independant. In the mean time I have had much of my time devoted to helping him. This has left me with much less time to work on Prittens. I have been trying to increase the amount of time I can devote to my art but my husband comes first!

But GAWAIN doesn't remember Harlan piecing him together. GAWAIN remembers finding a tub of meeses in Harlan's studio and appointed himself in charge of seeing that they didn't run amuck (which is a bit difficult to do in a small tin tub but I didn't bother to tell GAWAIN that). GAWAIN is carrying Mordred Mousie. He named him himself after reading all about the Knights of the Round Table. GAWAIN and Mordred quite like the idea of spending Nights at a Round Table (with a hole in the middle) even if it does mean that for a time GAWAIN must let Mordred down (it's most difficult to eat with a meese tail in your mouth)!

Every paw is carefully detailed!! Every toe is individually made!! Gawains fur can be gently smoothed - sometimes after playing with Mordred it can become a bit ruffled.

Now please don't mention the Green Knight around GAWAIN! For to a Pritten a "Green Night" is a night for the consumption of excessive quantities of pistachio ice cream and just between you, me and Mordred Mousie who witnessed the whole thing, GAWAIN over did it a bit and was rather green himself for about a week afterwards. He has therefore sworn off Green Nights!

So Mommet and Harlan beseech you - Can you offer fair home to a Pritten? Can you love GAWAIN and Mordred Mousie and keep them safe and happy? Will you call him Sir Gawain Pritten? Will you buy him Strawberry ice cream because it is decidedly NOT green?? Will you make them a round table with a hole in the middle?? Will you search to find a tiny tin tub in which GAWAIN can keep Mordred and any other meeses he happens to catch?? Will you let GAWAIN speak through you, using a pleasing voice to ask "Have you many meeses around here???" and tells you "Cheese (not green) is very good bait for catching meeses!!!"

The Prittens attempted to replace me as photographer but they couldn't find a photographer who would work for donuts and couldn't find any spare donuts. My job is safe but my photographs are still very poor!

If this you can do, GAWAIN and Mordred Mousie need a good home! Please adopt GAWAIN and Modred and rescue them from the encroaching nems! And please note with care that Prittens are NOT TOYS and should not be given to or left unattended with children! Prittens have small pieces parts that are potentially dangerous to children and it would wound a Pritten sorely to cause harm to any!

All Prittens are very carefully shipped within the U.S.A. WITH insurance and tracking for their safety! Prittens can be shipped to other countries as well and we already have Prittens living happily overseas!

Adopter will recieve an adoption card with details of the Pritten and signed by Harlan. Prittens will bring along their posessions which may be something similar (but not exactly to the sample dowry below. Prittens love toys and books so it's certain to be interesting!

Other stuff: Harlan is a Michigan award winning artist working primarily in oil paints. If you are interested search for the "IntimateForest". To see more Prittens simply search for "Prittens" Needle felting is the process of felting fibers together by repeatedly stabbing the wool roving with a special barbed needle. It is a time consuming process - VERY time consuming! I do NOT work from patterns. I am owned by a lot of cats and they like to pose and I also use photos for reference.

$75.00
This is a 15"x20" GICLEE PRINT of:

Clematis an original Oil painting by Harlan painted in 2005 The original painting is 30x40.

As a child my mother had several clematis cascading on lattice near the kitchen door. The sight was always a delight. My own attempts to grow clematis in my rather shady yard have not been successful. This painting is of a blossom from my last attempt to introduce clematis to my garden. I loved the composition, the contrast of color and light and shadow.

This painting won Members' Choice for the EBSQ Flower of the Month show in July 2005.

Giclee ("zee-clay") is the finest method available to artists for producing fine art archival reproductions. Giclee is a very fancy word for the type of printing used but it is very similar to the jetink printers many of you use with your own computers. The giclee printers produce a better quality and can handle larger piece of paper and canvas.

Intimate Forest is offering prints on acid free canvas and fine art paper in many sizes. The inks used to produce the reproductions are UV pigmented based for a longer life span and resistance to fading. With proper care and the avoidance of direct sunlight these prints should last up to 200 years.
These prints are unframed so that you may have them framed to your liking.

They grow in a wild island of plant life defined by several Oak and Maple trees and companioned with Trilium, Tulips and Mayapples. I spotted these particular blossoms when the sun had not yet touched them for the day and had to wait for that perfect moment. To take my reference photo I had to lay down and position myself lower than the flowers and wait for the light to appear. I had painted Narcissus before and while that one is a lovely painting I was never completely pleased with my rendering of those lovely white petals. As I often do when I have not been satisfied with previous results, I try again. I'm very pleased with the results here and hope to one day again try my brush on some future Narcissus.

Giclee ("zee-clay") is the finest method available to artists for producing fine art archival reproductions. Over the years I have tried to collect as many varieties of hostas as I am able to find. The colors of this particular blue hosta and the graceful patterns formed by its leaves delighted me so I had to paint it.

This was the first of several monochromatic paintings I have done over the years and, truthfully, it was quite frustrating. Aside from taking a month to complete I became what I refer to as "painting blind", a state in which I am no longer capable of viewing the work objectively and focus too greatly on what I have failed to achieve. When I finished this painting I quite literally hated it. It took me months before I could over come that feeling. Now this is one of my favorite paintings.

Giclee ("zee-clay") is the finest method available to artists for producing fine art archival reproductions. It is one of my least favorite colors and I love color. So why, you might wonder, would I do a painting that is so primarily pink? Because it is a challenge. Previous to Parrot Tulips I had done two paintings that were mostly monochromatic, Blue Hostas and Squash Blossom. I was very frustrated at the end of both those paintings, so why do it again? Because it is a challenge. Such paintings are difficult and test my skills of observation. I have to look past the simple observation that everything is blue as in Blue Hostas or almost everything is green as in Squash Blossom or everything is pink as with these Parrot Tulips. In fact there is quite a variety of color within those pinks. There was a wealth of variation that I found delightful. To my surprise I was not frustrated by the time I completed this painting. I was very pleased. I felt I had overcome the hurdle of working primarily in one color. I'm no fonder of pink than I was before I did this painting but I like this painting very much.

Giclee ("zee-clay") is the finest method available to artists for producing fine art archival reproductions. They are elegant, beautiful, graceful and smell like heaven! They are one of the few flowers you can purchase in a florist shop these days that has a legitimate scent. Fortunately they also grow very nicely in my own garden. Ultimately I would like to have a massive bed of these gorgeous flower but for now I am content with those that do flourish.

I watched for these three blossoms to be perfectly illuminated. It was worth the wait. So brilliant are they that the background foliage almost completely disappeared so I decided to have some fun with the background areas and hint at stars and galaxies and spider webs that were not there.

Giclee ("zee-clay") is the finest method available to artists for producing fine art archival reproductions.
