Green Sea Turtle -- natural history illustrated pendant

$80.00
Found in subtropical and tropical oceans all over the world, the green sea turtle is probably best known as a symbol of the Hawaiian islands. Called 'honu' in the Hawaiian language, these aquatic reptiles have been familiar on beaches and in the turquoise waters of Hawai'i since the Polynesians first arrived. It is amazing to see clear drawings of honu, centuries old, in the petroglyphs the ancient Polynesians carved into lava, and just as special to see honu sleeping on black sand beaches in Hawai'i, as they've been doing for thousands of years. To the Hawaiians, the honu is a symbol of peace, humility and longevity (honu may live for more than 70 years!) Perhaps when you wear this honu it will help you to envision the peaceful blue waters of the tropical Pacific and feel closer to these tranquil, graceful creatures.

The drawings contained in each of these pendants are reductions of my own original pen, ink and watercolor illustrations, inspired by the etchings of Victorian naturalists. Every piece comes with a keepsake information card that tells you more about each animal, and is signed and numbered. The pendant you will receive is not the piece pictured in this photograph, but one just like it, made to order.

The pendants are sterling silver and glass, with resin-coated silver leaf on the back of the stone. I hand assemble every piece. They are approximately .8 inches wide and 1.5 inches tall, and come with an 18" oxidized sterling silver chain. This pendant can also be purchased with a 16"-18" inch adjustable black ribbon with sterling silver findings -- please specify "chain" or "ribbon" in your order.
This particular hibiscus species, virtually extinct in the wild, is Hawaii's state flower. Dreaming of exotic places or being deserted on an island in the South Pacific? This pendant may not smell as sweet as a tropical flower, but will perhaps make you feel a bit closer to those dreamy islands.

The drawings contained in each of these pendants are reductions of my own original pen, ink and watercolor illustrations, inspired by the etchings of Victorian naturalists. I have just finished these new rings, using a few of my existing species, and I think the swallow design lends itself perfectly to this smaller scale.

The drawings contained in each of the rings are all reductions of my own pen, ink, and watercolor illustrations, inspired by the etchings of Victorian naturalists. Every piece comes with a small information card that tells you a bit more about each animal. The ring you will receive may not be the piece pictured in this photograph, but one just like it, made to order.
The ring is sterling silver and set with a cabochon made out of glass. Octopuses come in all colors and sizes, but this pendant features the Pacific Giant Octopus, a colder water species that can have an armspan of up to 14 feet! You might not know that octopuses are actually molluscs, related to snails, clams, and scallops -- they just don't have a shell.

The drawings contained in each of these pendants are reductions of my own original pen, ink and watercolor illustrations, inspired by the etchings of Victorian naturalists. In Europe, it is associated with the winter holidays as well as being an expression of good luck. This species is the quintessential "toadstool", a word that doesn't have any taxonomic meaning but usually refers to a poisonous mushroom. The fly agaric is poisonous, but not deadly -- this species has regularly been ingested by people living in various parts of Europe, sometimes as part of religious rites, because of the hallucinogenic properties of the toxin contained in its flesh.
Did you know that the mushroom we're all familiar with is really just a small portion of the entire organism? The above-ground mushroom, called a fruiting body, only lives for a few days to a few weeks, but the bulk of the creature is made up of long root-like strands that may stretch for hundreds of feet underground. This part of the fungus may live for decades.

The drawings contained in each of these pendants are reductions of my own original pen, ink and watercolor illustrations, inspired by the etchings of Victorian naturalists. Every piece comes with a keepsake information card that tells you more about each animal, and is signed and numbered. Each charm hangs from a silver hoop to be clipped around a wine glass, goblet stem, or even a mug-handle, adorning and identifying each vessel. Let your guests choose their favorite bird to tag their glass. The set comes in a small gift box with an information card, and includes the following favorite north American songbirds:

Allen's Hummingbird
American Goldfinch
Barn Swallow
Red-winged Blackbird
Scarlet Tanager
White-breasted Nuthatch

Add a splash of color to your table presentation and show your love of nature. Perfect for cocktail parties, dinner parties, tea parties, and especially wine tastings -- enhance your flight with a flock of adorable birds!

Each dangling bird charm is made with silver-plated metal and glass, and hangs from a sterling silver hoop with a pair of Swarovski crystal beads. The hoop is about 1" in diameter and fits around most wine glass stems. The individual bird charm pendants are 1/2" by 3/4".

Opium Poppy - Natural history illustrated jewelry

$80.00
The beautiful and seductive opium poppy, papaver somniferum, has had a huge impact on humanity throughout history. Not only is the sap used to make opium, a powerful narcotic, but it is the source of life-saving pain relievers like morphine, which revolutionized medicine. Outside of these chemical properties, the striking yet delicate opium poppy is a favorite among flower enthusiasts and gardeners worldwide.

The drawings contained in each of these pendants are reductions of my own original pen, ink and watercolor illustrations, inspired by the etchings of Victorian naturalists. Every piece comes with a keepsake information card that tells you more about each animal, and is signed and numbered.
