Blue Moon III

An actual photo of a blue moon was printed onto fabric and used in this mixed media wall hanging.
The tree and its branches were discharged from hand dyed batik fabric. The bark, branches and twigs were outlined and textured with quilting stithces.
Then the leaves were sewn on by hand using thousands of autumn colored beads.

The piece is equipped with a sewn in sleeve along the back for easy wall display.

The owl is freehand painted with sepia ink and brush, accentuated with marker and pencil.
Some of the tree branches are between the layers of transparent organza to give the illusion of depth.
The individual pine needles are stitched with varied green thread, and the silver stictching on the background adds a bit of sparkle.

They were a gift to the United States from Japan, since I was born there they always have had a special resonance for me.
