Moonlight Navigators - Original Illustration - 8 x 11.5

And they picked up a singing bird 'Alfonso', perhaps at the lunar safari.
Yes that is the moon on a stick... latter day sat-nav system, and it goes to show - you can even have the moon on a stick (don't let anybody tell you otherwise). The teapot flipped its lid a long time ago.

Original watercolour, acrylic, and ink illustration on paper. The paper size is 8" x 11.5" (20.5cm x 29.4cm). My illustration comes signed and dated on the front (bottom right) and sent in a board-backed envelope with extra card inside for protection.

Goblin Market - Come Buy - 5x5 Print

$11.00
This illustration print depicts my interpretation of an excerpt from Christina Rossetti's 'Goblin Market' poem. It illustrates the evil pesky goblins trying to flog their juicy wares.

This reproduction print is derived from my original mixed-media on wood 8"x8" illustration using acrylic paint, tissue paper, tracing paper, masking tape, pencil, and ink. It is part of a set of 9 illustrations, some of which are also in my Etsy shop.

This reproduction print measures 5"x5" (including white border), is printed on FujiFilm Crystal Archive photographic paper and is part of a signed, open edition.

About Goblin Market:

Written by Christina Rossetti, published in 1862, and originally illustrated by her brother Dante Rossetti. Lawrence Housman also illustrated Goblin Market.

1st verse:

MORNING and evening
Maids heard the goblins cry:
"Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy:
Apples and quinces,
Lemons and oranges,
Plump unpecked cherries-
Melons and raspberries,
Bloom-down-cheeked peaches,
Swart-headed mulberries,
Wild free-born cranberries,
Crab-apples, dewberries,
Pine-apples, blackberries,
Apricots, strawberries--
All ripe together
In summer weather--
Morns that pass by,
Fair eves that fly;
Come buy, come buy"

See the full poem here: http://www.victorianweb.org/authors/crossetti/gobmarket.html

Alice In Wonderland - Advice From A Caterpillar - Postcard

$3.50
My pencil illustration is based on 'Advice From a Caterpillar' - a chapter from the wonderful yet mind-boggling 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' by the legendary writer Lewis Carroll.

An excerpt from the book:

`You'll get used to it in time,' said the Caterpillar; and it put the hookah into its mouth and began smoking again.

This time Alice waited patiently until it chose to speak again. In a minute or two the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth and yawned once or twice, and shook itself. Then it got down off the mushroom, and crawled away in the grass, merely remarking as it went, `One side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter.'

`One side of WHAT? The other side of WHAT?' thought Alice to herself.

`Of the mushroom,' said the Caterpillar, just as if she had asked it aloud; and in another moment it was out of sight.

Alice remained looking thoughtfully at the mushroom for a minute, trying to make out which were the two sides of it; and as it was perfectly round, she found this a very difficult question. However, at last she stretched her arms round it as far as they would go, and broke off a bit of the edge with each hand.

`And now which is which?' she said to herself, and nibbled a little of the right-hand bit to try the effect: the next moment she felt a violent blow underneath her chin: it had struck her foot!

Technical/boring bit:
1 postcard
Size: 14.7cm X 10.6cm (approx. A6)
350gsm quality gloss card
Laminated on the front
Postcard back
No envelope included

Most of my artwork is planned out but this was more a subconscious flow.

This is a digital reproduction measuring 4x6 inches. It comes with a beautiful matte finish and a white border for framing.

It is professionally printed on high quality Fujifilm Crystal Archive paper, which has been tested to last over 60 years without fading.

This print is part of a signed, open edition.

It illustrates Laura looking in her purse for money to buy the tempting goblin fruit with.

The original illustration (mixed media on wood) was part of my preparatory work towards a series of nine images measuring 8"x8" painted on blocks of wood, which were exhibited at the Air Gallery, London.

This reproduction print measures 5"x5" (including white border), is printed on FujiFilm Crystal Archive photographic paper and is part of a signed, open edition.

An excerpt from the poem 'Goblin Market' by Christina Rossetti (1862):

'But sweet-tooth Laura spoke in haste:
"Good folk, I have no coin;
To take were to purloin:
I have no copper in my purse,
I have no silver either,
And all my gold is on the furze
That shakes in windy weather
Above the rusty heather."
"You have much gold upon your head,"
They answered altogether:
"Buy from us with a golden curl."'
Goblin Market Illustration - Golden Curl 5x5 Print

$11.00
My 5"x5" (square) illustration print depicts an excerpt of Christina Rossetti's 'Goblin Market' poem. It illustrates the clipping of Laura's golden hair to pay the evil goblins for their tempting fruits, I find this is symbolic of a girl losing her innocence.

The original illustration was one of a series of nine images measuring 8"x8" painted on blocks of wood, which were exhibited at the Air Gallery, London.

This reproduction print measures 5"x5" (including white border), is printed on FujiFilm Crystal Archive photographic paper and is part of an open edition.

Also available as an 8"x8" print (with no border) - please specify the larger size when purchasing.

"Good folk, I have no coin;
To take were to purloin:
I have no copper in my purse,
I have no silver either,
And all my gold is on the furze
That shakes in windy weather
Above the rusty heather."
"You have much gold upon your head,"
They answer'd all together:
"Buy from us with a golden curl."
She clipp'd a precious golden lock,
She dropp'd a tear more rare than pearl,
Then suck'd their fruit globes fair or red:
Sweeter than honey from the rock,
Stronger than man-rejoicing wine,
Clearer than water flow'd that juice;
She never tasted such before,
How should it cloy with length of use?"
(Christina Rossetti)

It illustrates Lizzie tearing across the furze, having been violated by the goblin men.

This print is taken from an original illustration - one of a series of nine images measuring 8"x8" painted on blocks of wood, and exhibited at the Air Gallery in London 2007.

This reproduction print measures approx 8"x8" (20cm x 23cm including a white border), is printed on FujiFilm Crystal Archive photographic paper and is part of a signed, open edition.

"In a smart, ache, tingle,
Lizzie went her way;
Knew not was it night or day;
Sprang up the bank, tore through the furze,
Threaded copse and dingle,
And heard her penny jingle
Bouncing in her purse, --
Its bounce was music to her ear.
She ran and ran
As if she feared some goblin man
Dogged her with gibe or curse
Or something worse."
