One man, his wife and father in law and son construct these unique manger sets. The coconut building and all the figures of Jesus and the gang fit into a cotton sack with a drawstring for storage.
Because of our purchases at MISSIONPOSSIBLE the educational expenses of the four children of this Haitian family have been met for the past two years.
This is a gift that will keep on giving.

Tree of Life

$120.00
More beautiful works from the most famous steel drum artist in Haiti! They measure approximately 23.5 inches in diameter. Each sculpture has birds resting in the branches of the trees of life. Thousands of embossed areas decorate these pieces making them one of the more outstanding examples of steel drum artistry. Each piece is unique and handcrafted without the use of power tools.
This particular piece is round but we also have square and rectangular pieces of the tree of life.
Once more we see the Haitians using recycled goods for art. The process begins with an empty oil drum. The top and bottom are separated from the drum and a cut is made down one side. The drum is hammered and rolled until it is relatively flat. The surface of the oil covered metal is cleaned. The artist draws the images which will later be cut, hammered, tooled and polished to render incredible works of art .
When in the community where these lovely pieces are made I enjoy closing my eyes ,listening and becoming lost in the symphony of hammers and chisels as ART HAPPENS!

This artist has taken us away from the sunshine without taking away the beauty of a Haitian day. The setting is a mountain village with colorful houses sitting close to one another. The mountains dominate as villagers move in the rain without umbrellas or rain gear. The colors are brilliant but subdued by the rain drops. Cool purples, blues, pinks and more!

The painting measures 20" x 24".
Women and men going in all directions with chairs to sell. It is a common site to see women with jugs of water, animals, produce and chairs on their heads walking the paths of Haiti.
This painting measures 20"(width) and 25" in height. The colors are rich and vibrant like the people of this beautiful island.

These wonderful workers take literally weeks to produce one item. They are recycling discarded oil drums into some of the most unique and classic art on the island of Hispanola. When I visit the steel drum community I enjoy standing with my eyes closed and listening to the "stomp" rhythms that occur when this art is created. Hammers and saws singing while steel is converted into timeless collectors' dreams.

This cross measures 17 " high by 11" across. There is a second cross attached to the bottom of the primary cross with a jump ring measuring 5" by 3".

Each twin is adorned with a compass symbolizing individual direction and decision making.
Interesting that the artist connects these two by having each wear half of an antennae set.
In Haitian culture having twins is a special gift from God and brings good luck to the family.
30" tall and 28" wide

It took the artist 35 days to create this piece. This incredibly vibrant tapestry tells a wonderful story of faith and strength.
The bull is the national symbol for strength and solidarity in Haiti. We see a large head of a bull in red centered in the tapestry. There are two candles symbolizing the light of Christ and the light of Haiti. Above the head of the bull is a large masonic G symbolizing God and His power over the strength of the bull and over all of life. There are 6 compasses in the tapestry which symbolize guidance.
This sequined tapestry is unique and powerful. It measures 23" by 24".
