There is something about urban street art that really speaks to me. It has it's own way of saying the ordinary. So I challenged myself to use my inner street sm"arts" to create this painting.

My goal was to give new life to this passage from the bible, give people a new way to look at God's word...give them a new angle and something to ponder.

Most of my newer art, including this piece, is "upcycled". Taking trash or disguarded items and giving them a new life. For isn't that what God has done in each one of us!

This painting is done in acrylic paints on canvas and wood. The canvas (left overs from another project) is wrapped around a flat cabinet door. A hole was cut in the canvas to show the wood beneath where the scripture is written. I do not use any stencils for the lettering. It is all hand done.

Full size is 21"x 31.5". Ready to hang.

After talking with several people about this painting I came to realize that I should be sharing the story behind the painting with everyone.

This painting was painted right after I found out that a friend of mine, Vanessa Whitwell past away from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 34. I say friend, even though I never hung out with her outside of work, because after meeting Vanessa you could not help but call her anything else. She was one of those amazing people you meet that light up a room with their personality and style, and envy that you could have that much drive and determination. I had the pleasure of working with her at Fellowship Church. She started at Fellowship as one of our worship leaders. Singing every weekend with one of the most beautiful voices you will ever her. Soon after began to lead in other ministries as well, like the women's ministry and our C3 conferences. She touched thousands of lives with her gifts and her love for God. She accomplished more in her short life than most of us would ever hope to in a hundred years. She had a love for life and her work that showed in everything that she did.

Fellowship church said it best in this press release, "Vanessa approached her relationships with a sincere kindness and with a genuine heart for those in need. Known as an encourager and a consummate cheerleader, Vanessa lived with a passionate ferocity for life spreading joy and laughter along the way. She had a strong faith that dictated her choices, and sense of self that empowered all who came in contact with her."

The first show I had it at I sold it. I spoke with a women at the show it for what seemed liked hours. She loved it and was thinking of buying it for her brother who just got married and was starting a new job at a camp their church was opening this summer. Her brother just happened to work at Fellowship and worked closely with Vanessa. I knew him as well and knew he would love it. She did buy it for him as a wedding present. So the original painting found a home not only with someone who could appreciate it for it's beauty but also love it for who it symbolized. For those of us who had the pleasure of meeting Vanessa Whitwell you will understand just how "rich" we have become just from knowing her.

God sure has a great way of bringing us all together.

I am releasing a limited edition print of this painting (only 100 will be made). 50% of the proceeds will go to the Vanessa Whitwell Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will afford many students and young women the opportunity to attend various camps, retreats and events where they will experience the hope and love of Jesus Christ.

Out of all my paintings this is my favorite. There is so much depth and range of color to it, you can't help but stare. So if you do it, think of what your guests will say when they see it!

This amazing painting was created in acrylic paint on an unused cabinet door. It is a bit heavier than a canvas painting but it has some great details from the door front that add to the painting.

Overall size is 17.5 x 23.75. I can add picture wire to the back to hang on the wall or you can lean it up again a fire place mantle.

Hand Painted Mirrors!
These mirrors are a great set for any wall, table or shelf. Use them as decorations in your livingroom, study, bedroom just about any where you can think of. Lay them in the center of a table add a candle, maybe some flowers and you have a great centerpiece for any occasion. Give them as a gift or keep them to for yourself.

Each mirror proudly displays one of the 3 words: Faith, Hope or Love on the bottom right hand corner of the pine frame stained dark brown, almost black. The words are HAND PAINTED in bronze acrylic paint. They come with a sawtooth picture hook already attached to the back and ready to hang. Each frame is also clear coated for years of enjoyment and protection!

Because the staining of the frames and the painting of the words on each mirror are done by hand there will be some inconstancies with colors, woodgrain and fonts; but that is what makes these so special and unique. No two sets will ever be alike!

This is a mixed media piece featuring a wonderful wired wrapped bird over paint, paper, and stickers all on wood. The wood was recycled from past projects done around my house, a scrap that would have gone in the trash. Wood block is 3.5"x3.5" and comes with saw tooth hanger on back.

This is a set of 3 prints from an original triptych painting I did last year. Each print features a different aspect of the title: Love: God: find Peace.
