This scarf was inspired by the Maori cloaks of olden time. It is felted from the softest merino available and is more solid than most of my other scarves as I wanted it to be as cloak like as possible. The wool was dyed by me as well in dark brown,green and blue. The cloak itself has dark brown in stead of blue like in the fringes.

In the last picture you see the dyed wool and the felted thread in preparation of becoming a scarf. The wool is so called tops and from that tufts of wool are pulled and laid out overlapping. Then wetted down and agitated to form a dense non woven fabric.

This is a tutorial for the somewhat experienced felter and to make these flowers all you will need s some wool tops, soapy water and a little handheld sander would be nice but is not per se needed.

These are very concise step by step picture and written instructions on how to make very delicate, yet sturdy felted flowers.

The method I use is of my own devising and is easy to learn for all. Some prior experience with felting would be handy but with nimble hands even the inexperienced can make these.

This was first nuno felted onto very sheer red cotton. Nuno felting is incorporating wool fibers into a fabric. By friction the wool migrates through the fabric and as the wool shrinks the fabric goes all crumply creating a beautiful effect. The fabric in this case is bright red and the wool a combination of yellow and red so you get a flamed effect. After incorporating the wool into the fabric I cut it up and designed it into a form fitted jacket with long transparent poufy sleeves and a pointy hoody.

This fun creation was made by first spinning the yarn and then laying it on top of the unfelted wool. Then the felting process of wetting and agitation began. The dark brown wool is alpaca as is the yarn and on the inside I made a thin layer of the 16 micron merino for softer than softness.

This piece was made using the wetfetlting technique. Two large pieces of prefelt of contrasting color felted together. The outer layer has holes cut out so you can see the contrasting color through it. After felting the whole was cut into a big spiral and sewn back together to create either a vortex or tornado. For those biblically inclined it does remind me somewhat of the tower of babel as well.

The base has a dimaeter of 35 cm (13.8") and it is a total of 30 cm (11.8") high.

To demonstrate the principle I have made the tutorial in the shape of a doggie, but the method used can be adapted to any shape.

I first felted a shrug from the softest merino overlaid by silk fiber, then I felted a shawl and sewed that onto the shrug to form a vest.

Very elegant, with the sheen of silk yet sporty if worn on a pair of jeans.

Felt is easily washed by hand in some warmish lightly soaped water, let is soak for a while and then gently squeeze a little. Then rinse well in cool water , roll in a towel to remove excess water and hang to dry.

Wool is very naturally dirt resistant make sure your woolen item really needs to be washed. Unlike cotton and man-made materials, wool does not need to be washed frequently - even wool socks can be worn many times between washing if allowed to air out between wearings. Don't assume your wool sweater needs to be washed just because you are used to washing things after wearing them once! Get used to gently spot-cleaning and airing woolens and you will be amazed at how well they last with very little care, and very infrequent washing.

I was asked by Frances Melhop from http://www.matchstickgirl.etsy.com and http://www.enchantedpond.etsy.com to make a teepee sized wrap in black. Never before had I attempted to make something so big. I tried and came up with these huge scarves that are a combination of optim and 16 micron merino. This makes them super soft yet lightweight. Each and every one is made to order in a color you choose. With coloring keep in mind I can approximate a color you specify, not replicate exactly. Every time I make one it is dyed after felting and dependant on how the wool behaves the dye is absorbed.

They are very large in size roughly 180cmX180cm.

The look is very organic and it will keep out quite a bit of rain and wind. With a scarf pin kept in place it is my preferred attire on long walks as it is light and keeps out the elements. when coming up to a sunny spot it doubles as a great seat too.

This is a batty bat who lost his marbles...or was it his phone? He was felted from very sturdy wool. His inside is grey and outside he is black. He has strong flying wings and ridiculously large ears glass eyes and has a sturdy leather eyelet so you can attach him to you belt loop or a bag to prevent him flying away.
Of course does he not only eat phones with his sharp pointy teeth, ipods,money,small toys....anything not too large he will devour with pleasure.
His interior measures 9x11 cm ( 3.5 in x 4.3 in) he closes with a strong zipper.

The pouch is felted of thick wool so it will protect the phone from light bumps and small drops.

Made from very sturdy Norwegian C1 wool so pilling is negligible.
Felted onto it is a silken flower on both sides.
Both the wool and silk were dyed by me as well in pinks and purples.
The closure is a felted flower around which you tie a felted twine.
The strap is sewn on and nubuck leather in a very deep forest green.
Fully lined with Japanese light green canvas with little sheep on. Inside a little pocket for your mobile so it does not go all the way to the bottom of the bag and have you searching like mad.

The wool is Norwegian C1 wool which is very hard wearing and felded onto it is a layer of silk fiber that I dyed in green,yellow and red. It is laid onto the wool in a swirly pattern.
From a large square I felted I cut water drop shapes and sewed them together. The zipper is a red large toothed one and the strap I sewed from dusty green cotton canvas. It is fully adjustable and has a quick release clasp so you can easily remove it.

This started out as white unwashed uncarded wool. Norwegian C1 wool which I washed, carded, dyed,spun,knit and felted together.

The spun wool I knit into a large panel, then cut it to pieces and felted them back together again in the shape of a vest. It combines the stretchy comfort of a knit garment with the light sturdiness of felted wool. Together they form a warm but very lightweight vest/jacket.

The shoulders can be worn tied in or wide for either a sporty or a very elegant effect.

It closes by means of a felted poppy, which doubles as a beautiful brooch when you leave the vest open.
