This lichen is inspired by the kind I used to find on the rocks where I grew-up in California.

This lightweight piece consists of a 4 inch wooden embroidery hoop with a medium gray cotton fabric. I then embroidered french knots in three colors onto the fabric: burnt orange, yellow, and chartreuse. The french knots are small and large, tight and loose for a subtle difference in texture. After completing the embroidery, I securely glued the fabric to the inside of the hoop with craft glue.

Since this piece is small and intimate, I think it would be lovely in a reading nook, next to a work area or in a group.

Four little gray needle felted "rocks" are sewn securely onto a 2 3/4 inch (70 mm) nickel-plated barrette with red thread. The "lichen" is made of french knots in yellow and orange.

I tend to be a perfectionist and since my hand sewing isn't perfect, I decided to do all of my hand sewing in red thread to accentuate the handmade look; it's sort of like pulling out that red pen from school to mark papers.

This lichen is inspired by the kind I used to find on the rocks where I grew-up in California.

These brooches are a bit of a flat version of the Lichen Pincushions, however they are sewn from felt rather than needle felted. The felt is gray with french knot "lichen" in chartreuse and yellow. The two circles of felt are sewn together with red hand quilting thread, so it's extra strong, as is the pin back on the reverse. These cuties are also stuffed with a bit of polyester fiberfill to plump them up a bit. They are 2" (5 cm.) in diameter.

The brooch can be worn in any direction you like.

A note about the red thread: Some of my pieces include functional hand sewing. I tend to be a perfectionist and since my hand sewing isn't perfect, I decided to do all of my hand sewing in red thread to accentuate the handmade look; it's sort of like pulling out that red pen from school to mark papers.

This pincushion can be used as:

1. A pincushion - Just attach it to you craft table with some Velcro...it's made of wool and therefore really lightweight.

2. A sachet - You can pop it in a drawer, place it upon your dresser, or put it your powder room! It's filled with organic lavender buds.

3. A sculpture - If you don't have a green thumb, place one or more on a shelf (they look great in groups...they like the company) or in a glass jar for a faux terrarium! These are also perfect if you work indoors, particularly in an office situation, and you'd like a little spot of green!

The background can be just about any color; I am using craft paint on these because the colors are pre-mixed...that way, if you decide to purchase another painting of the same color later, the colors will match. The lettering can be white or cream.

NOTE: I do not have pictures of doily paintings with 8 or 9 letters, the diameter will be a bit larger for 8 or 9 letters....first picture: "Monique" (light pink with white), second picture: "Everett" (pale blue with white), third picture: "Russell" (grass green with white), fourth picture: "Lindsey" (black with white).

This lichen is inspired by the kind I see on tree branches here in Oregon.

This brooch is sewn with tan and brown wool-blend felt and stuffed with polyester fiberfill; I then added some lichen made of gray wool-blend felt around the little stump...sewn on with red thread, of course. These brooches are 2" (5 cm.) in diameter.

I decided to keep the brooch very simple with no hint of woodgrain and instead focus on the detail of the lichen. Also, I don't use a pattern for these, so each is unique.

This moss is inspired by the kind I find here in Oregon.

These are a bit of a smaller version of my Moss Pincushions, but with a lovely felt wrist strap to put around your wrist.

This cute little pincushion has been densely needle-felted to look like moss. The wrist strap is made of a double layer of felt in a milk chocolate brown and hand sewn together with red hand quilting thread, so it's extra strong. The strap is secured onto the pincushion, and reinforced with, another piece of felt (kind of like a belt and belt loop), that has been hand sewn on, again in red thread, so the strap can slide a bit. The closure on the pincushion is with Velcro (a nice flexible form of it). It is possible to poke yourself if you stab REALLY hard into the pincushion.

I make these wrist pincushions in a variety of sizes, so please note how wide the pincushion is and how long the strap is in relation to the wrist you are purchasing it for.

A departure from my needle felted pincushions, this one is sewn with brown and tan wool-blend felt and stuffed with a bit of rice (for weight) and polyester fiberfill; it is then topped with a heavy helping of lichen made of gray wool-blend felt...sewn on with red thread, of course.

The gray “rock” is needle felted and the "lichen" is made of little french knots in pale green. Ooh, and since I use undyed wool roving for the center of my pincushions, the retained lanolin helps lubricate your pins and needles!

These brooches are a flat version of the Moss Pincushions. After needle felting layers of dark chocolate brown and grass green “moss,” I sewed a pin back on with red hand quilting thread so it's extra strong. The yarn that I used is wrapped around the piece and needle felted on (the yarn is super fine and about the thickness of three pieces of thread spun together – only fuzzy).

Version 2 of the Moss Bobby Pin is more abstract and highlights the working process.

Two layers (dark chocolate brown, and grass green “moss”) are needle felted together to make a clump of moss for your hair. The yarn that I use is super fine and about the thickness of three pieces of thread spun together – only fuzzy. A departure from my needle felted pincushions, this one is sewn with brown and tan wool-blend felt and stuffed with a bit of rice (for weight) and re-purposed stuffing (that has been washed); it is then topped with a heavy helping of lichen made of gray wool-blend felt...sewn on with red thread, of course.

I decided to keep the log very simple with no hint of woodgrain and instead focus on the detail of the lichen. Also, I don't use a pattern for these, so each is unique.

(The mushroom pins are sold separately.)

A modern version of the doily...and it spells out your name!

Each row (starting from the center) is a letter in one's name, word or short phrase. I am using a combination of print and script on these depending on the flow of the piece.

These paintings are 9x9 inches on maple plywood (purchased from a builders' surplus store - yay!) with the edges left unpainted; the back has a wire for hanging. The background can be just about any color; I am using craft paint on these because the colors are pre-mixed...that way, if you decide to purchase another painting of the same color later, the colors will match. The lettering can be white or cream.

NOTE: I do not have pictures of doily paintings with 8 or 9 letters, the diameter will be a bit larger for 8 or 9 letters....first picture: "Everett" (pale blue with white), second picture: "Lindsey" (black with white), third picture: "Russell" (grass green with white), fourth picture: "Monique" (light pink with white).

A brown needle felted ring with a faux clump of moss needle felted on top. Moss Rings can be made to whichever size you like (please note that I am in the US and size accordingly). When ordering a ring, please leave the size you'd like in the message to seller.

Just remember to take the ring off when you wash your hands (it shouldn't damage your ring unless you scrub or use hot water, but it will look like a wet dog on your finger). If your ring does get wet, please just let it air dry. Even though ring is made of wool, and I usually get itchy with wool, these rings don't bother me at all.

This lichen is inspired by the kind I used to find on the rocks where I grew-up in California.

Three little gray needle felted "rocks" are sewn securely onto a 2 inch (50 mm.) nickel-plated barrette with red thread. The "lichen" is made of french knots in chartreuse.

This piece is one-of-a-kind.

Lichen Bobby Pin 2

This lichen is inspired by the kind I used to find on the rocks where I grew-up in California.

This listing is for one Lichen Bobby Pin; any photograph with more than one bobby pin is for comparison.

The tan “rock” is needle felted and the "lichen" is made of little french knots in burnt orange. The felted piece is then hand sewn onto a brass/brown colored bobby pin with red thread, of course. The “rock” can slide around on the bobby pin, but once it's in your hair, it stays put (I wear mine all the time) and it's securely sewn on.

Lichen Pincushion (V2 - stump) 1

This lichen is inspired by the kind I see on tree branches here in Oregon.

A departure from my needle felted pincushions, this one is sewn with brown and tan wool-blend felt and stuffed with a bit of rice (for weight) and polyester fiberfill; I then added some lichen made of gray wool-blend felt around the little stump...sewn on with red thread, of course.

I decided to keep the stump very simple with no hint of woodgrain and instead focus on the detail of the lichen. Also, I don't use a pattern for these, so each is unique.

This moss is inspired by the kind I find here in Oregon.

This grass green version of my moss is more abstract and highlights the working process.

This lightweight piece consists of a 3 inch wooden embroidery hoop with a medium gray cotton fabric. I then needle felted “moss” in two layers onto the fabric: chocolate brown and a grass green “moss” layer. The yarn that I used is wrapped around the piece and needle felted on (the yarn is super fine and about the thickness of three pieces of thread spun together – only fuzzy). I then securely glued the fabric to the inside of the hoop with craft glue.

Since this piece is small and intimate, I think it would be lovely in a reading nook, next to a work area or in a group.

PLEASE NOTE: I HAVE JUST A BIT MORE OF THE GRAY FABRIC THAT I USE FOR MY "FOR YOUR WALL" PIECES...AFTER WHICH I WILL BE USING A DIFFERENT, BUT SIMILAR FABRIC.

I take care to securely felt the "moss" into my products; however, the "moss" is quite fragile when tugged and may come apart. This moss is inspired by the kind I find here in Oregon.

These are a bit of a smaller version of my Moss Pincushions, but with a lovely felt wrist strap to put around your wrist.

This cute little pincushion has been densely needle-felted to look like moss. The wrist strap is made of a double layer of felt in a milk chocolate brown (a little lighter in color than the “dirt” part of the moss “clump”) and hand sewn together with red hand quilting thread, so it's extra strong. The strap is secured onto the pincushion, and reinforced with, another piece of felt (kind of like a belt and belt loop, however the wrist strap cannot come off because the Velcro causes the strap to be too thick), that has been hand sewn on, again in red thread, so the strap can slide a bit. The closure on the pincushion is with Velcro (a nice flexible form of it). It is possible to poke yourself if you stab REALLY hard into the pincushion.

I make these wrist pincushions in a variety of sizes, so please note how wide the pincushion is and how long the strap is in relation to the wrist you are purchasing it for.
