Standing beneath the overlapping branches of trees made massive by their hundreds of years of silent observation in this world, it is almost possible to see where they reach upwards and touch the heavens.

This is the first in the series Touching Heaven.

Along a path that winds its way through the marsh and backwater of La Crosse, Wisconsin is a grove of trees that have stood so long that they must have good stories to tell. It is one of my favorite places. The city was forced to grow around it, and although not completely isolated, the sounds of birds and the wind rustling the trees takes me to an internal place that I know is where my soul lives.

These are natural seeds called Guanacaste from Costa Rica. They grow all lined up in a huge pod that looks like an elephant's ear.

Order includes 10 seeds
Each has 2 holes drilled from side to side
They measure apx. 1/2" to 3/4" long and 3/8" across.

Because these are real seeds it is recommended not to submerge them in water. I won't guarentee them to grow in your backyard, but yes, enough water and some of them have been known to sprout:)

Wise Old Sage - Named for the energy I feel this tree projects. I love to visit this tree on our visits to the Marsh. Located at a bend in the road, it seems to welcome us with open arms.

As the title suggests this painting is an Explosion of color. Though when I look into the depth created by the swirl of colors I see a party of dancing and fun. Original Abstract Painting - Hidden Orchids

This piece is the abstract I refer to on my bio page. It has much more life to it then you would first suspect and is in danger of becoming part of my permanent collection, as I am becoming more and more attached to it.

As the title hints there are actually hidden orchids in this painting. It is difficult to show with a photograph, but there are textured outlines of orchids raising up from beneath the paint.

One more surprise is hiding as well that can not be shown in the photo - coffee. No you would not be imagining things if when you walk by this painting you smell a slight scent of coffee whaffing through the air. I used a wash of coffee to finish this painting and it became an integral part of the whole piece.

Blue Butterfly Original Painting on Natural Guanabana Paper

This is an original acrylic and ink painting on natural Guanabana paper.

You will find many of these blue butterflies in my work. Their irridescent shimmering wings are beautiful.

The Guanabana paper is made from the pulp of the fruit by the same name. Native to Central America this ancient plant has many uses in medicines and natural agriculture.

This is a sturdy paper. It is thick with quite a bit of texture which I tried to capture in some of the photos that are at an angle.

Notice the metallic hints in some of the brighter photos. Those photos were taken with a direct flash to pick up the detailing done with metallic gel. It is only noticeable when the light hits it just right.

Paper measures 19.5 x 15.75 inches
Image measures apx. 10 x 8 inches

Display and framing ideas: I would not flatten this in a traditional glass frame. I have had many clients who frame their natural paper paintings in a shadow box with beautiful results.

Jaguar - Original Painting on Banana Paper work in progress

This piece is a work in progress and requires apx. two more weeks of work to add all of the fine detail. If you are interested please contact me and I will dedicate my time to finishing this one up.

Original acrylic and ink painting on banana paper, very much inspired by my time and work in Costa Rica.

The paper is a natural eco friendly paper made from the leftover stalks and fibers of the banana plant after the fruit is harvested.

The paper is itself a work of art that brings life to the subject. Notice the edges are not cut in a straight line. There are curves, and textures, sometimes "holes", and even the occasional insect that made its way into the press. This is all to be expected and is part of this beautiful, natural paper.

The paper is thick and sturdy (cannot be rolled or folded) and I have many people say they thought it was leather.

Paper measures apx. 17.5 x 22.5 inches

"Rainforest Vision" was inspired by my experiences living in Costa Rica. The original is quite large and I worked on it for 3 years. Take another look, there are many things to find in this piece that aren't immediately apparent.

The original has been on display at the University of La Crosse Art Gallery, and a print like this one is currently on display at the La Crosse Airport Gallery.

Iguana Original Painting on Banana Paper

This is an original painting and it has no reproductions. It is acrylics and inks on banana paper. It has been displayed at Regalame, Si Como No Gallery in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.

Total paper measures apx. 20 x 16 inches
Painted area measures 13.5 x 11.5 inches

This guy looks very much like the roomates who lived in my ceiling in Costa Rica. A very long, but adventure filled story.

The paper is a natural eco friendly paper made from the leftover stalks and fibers of the banana plant after the fruit is harvested.

The paper is itself a work of art that brings life to the subject. Notice the edges are not cut in a straight line. There are curves, and textures, sometimes "holes", and even the occasional insect that made its way into the press. This is all to be expected and is part of this beautiful, natural paper.

The paper is thick and sturdy (cannot be rolled or folded) and I have many people say they thought it was leather.

Notice the metallic hints in some of the brighter photos. Those photos were taken with a direct flash to pick up the detailing done with metallic gel. It is only noticeable when the light hits it just right.

Display and framing ideas: I would not flatten this in a traditional glass frame. I have had many clients who frame their banana paper paintings in a shadow box. It is also durable enough to hang by drapery clips. If you like a natural look, you can use the clips on a bamboo rod to hang on the wall. Really there are as many possibilities as you can imagine.

Shipping on this item includes insurance and tracking. The painting will of course be very well packaged with cardboard and plastic for protection. If you have special shipping needs please contact me before or immediately after placing your order.
