Many years ago, during one of many trips to my favorite city, Paris, I stopped dead in my tracks upon seeing this scene in front of me... a live painting!

So real - a perfect set up - the red socks, the red tie, the red jug, a few scattered papers here and there, a tiny bottle of Perrier... so carefully placed and thought out as any still life arrangement by the great masters.

"Mr. Bojangles" was photographed in Paris at the Palais de Chaillot in the Trocadero. He is looking at the Eiffel Tower across the Seine.

I made him of red plaid flannel fabric and gave him a red hat and scarf to keep warm. It took me many experiments to make the shovel, don't you love it?
