The original sketch was done in watercolor but this painting done on 9 x 12 acid free paper is mixed media. In addition to heavily pigmented oil paints I used ink, silk flowers and white lace giving the painting a real life touch. Each silk flower is dotted with metallic gold paint, each white bubble is circled with blue metallic paint.

You'll see the stems glow in three layers of green on top of a swirling blue background. The tea pot itself is gold, brown and copper tones with a large pink and white flower. A closer look at the lace reveals bits of purple, pink and different shades of blue. This is a homey painting that would fit nicely in your kitchen or dining area.

More details: Tea at My House is sealed to help preserve the vibrancy of the paint. It is signed and dated on the front. There's a white boarder which allows for framing making the image size a full 8 x 10 inches.

Simple Miss Rose -
She’s a simple lady who understands the complex beauty around her.

Painting details: A faceless young woman lounges in the sand where a single rose has blossomed. She’s wearing a basic high neck brown long sleeve sweater and an ankle length hunter green skirt. Art details: Culture blending, water, spiritual, enlightening, inspiring. This painting has strong contrasting red and greens with a small floral designs on each of their draped clothes. A small child is wearing blue with green and yellow floral accents. The two adults are dressed almost alike in red, yellow and orange with floral accents. If you look closely you can see the excitement on the oldest woman’s face. She is to the far right. Her posture is knowing and confident.

Family Portrait - Loving Leah mother child abstract line textured 6 x 9 print

This painting was inspired by a Hallmark presentation called Loving Leah. Leah’s mother said concerning her daughter’s happiness, “A mother is only as happy as her saddest child” This touched me and I knew I had to paint.

The mother in this version has one small tear in each eye. Her child is smiling.

I suppose you could say this was also an experiment with textures and cubism. Also, I wanted a rustic look to show the extent to which this pair endured hardships. Trials and tribulations have taken a tole on them both, still nothing can corrode or break down a bond made of love and nurturing.

Some may be able to see a mother and child in this painting while others might see a woman and her inner child. On a more spiritual level one could see themselves in the arms of the One who loved them first. In all three examples hardships have been endured and beauty is untouched.

Green, for me, symbolizes growth as well as youth, it’s movement, it’s futuristic.

Why use green for flowing hair? It has always been said that a woman’s pride and glory is her hair. The best way I feel I can symbolize a willingness to grow and build up personal self worth is to make the hair green.

Significance of scars:
Many assume others can see their every flaw as if it were a scar right across their face.

The dress of this young woman drapes across her and forms a river where a small sprout comes forth. On the sprout is a cardinal, on the limbs of her hair is another. I’m a lover of texture so there’s a lot of that to see as well. Greens and hues of blue are accented by bursts of orange and small dabs of yellow and red. Her face is half concealed, her arms folded around her holding her inner earth steady above the river.

About this piece:

Each piece of the background has quilted edges.
The sun is medallion like
When viewed closely the female figure’s gown has a feather-like appearance.
Each piece of the background has it’s own rocky landscape texture.
The only piece of the background without a winding landscape is the sun.

The pieces all have their own boundary lines, their own existence apart from the rest. Each piece has it’s own colour. The textures are similar but no two are an exact match. These puzzle-like pieces symbolize difficulties, stops and obstacles that we face on different roads in our life.
