A Tumbler Quilt utilizes one shape that is repeated. In art terms, this is called a tesselation. The Tumbler quilt pattern has been a documented periennal favorite for quilters since at least the early 1800s.

Here is a modern tumbler quilt in the wonderfully hued Oh Boy! theme fabric from Holly Holderman's line for Lakehouse Fabric, teamed with a gorgeous coordinating periwinkle Kona cotton. Perfect for a lucky little boy's nursery!

For fun, the back is done in a bright, colorful and fun bug-themed velvet-soft flannel. This quilters' quality flannel makes this quilt extra cuddly and warm -- and a little heavier than normal. This will only get softer and softer with each washing and age.

Filled with Warm and Natural cotton batting -- the needled cotton that still uses no chemicals, glues, or resins, so you know that it is gentle enough for even the youngest child.

Machine quilted along the tumbler edges. Double binding was traditionally hand-stitched for a professional finish and durability.

Also already washed gently and dried to show how it will look when you do the same. Suggested wash/dry on cooler temps with gentle cycle to prolong lovely colors.

I'm really pleased with how well these two fabrics worked together. Baby shoes featuring lollypop vine pattern of kiwi and sage on a persimmon background. Contrasting fabric is a very soft deep sage microfiber imitation suede. The microfiber lines in the inside top and sides and is also used on the outside soles. The top quality quilters cotton print is used outside and for sole lining inside.

When I got my hands on this gorgeous vintage-looking linen, I knew I had to make something special with it. So here it is -- a perfect tote to dress up or down -- ultimately elegant yet classically simple and practical.

This fabric has been pretreated to resist stains and soil. Very thick interfacing was fused to its underside to maintain shape and prevent wrinkles.

The 1950s scarlet cotton lining adds a richness you just don't see today. Another layer of thick interfacing provides very soft padding for your goodies and enough structure so the bag stands by itself, even when filled.

Every single raw edge of every piece of the linen that went to make this tote was finished with zig-zag stitching. Sure that meant it took nearly twice as long to make, and you'll never see it all unless you undo a lining seam and take a peek. Because that was done the linen will hold it's shape better, be stronger and you will be free from worry about any unravelling issues.

Seven interior pockets of varying sizes are trimmed with the linen for contrast and strength. Twin built-in key fobs with swivel catches will keep keys, pacifiers, wallets, building or bus passes safe, but easily accessible. Metal feet at the bottom for protection and magnetic snap closure with extra padding inside for sturdiness at the pressure points.

The long and durable 15” drop straps are quadruple stitched for strength, padded at the top/shoulder for comfort and long enough to comfortably hang from the shoulder, even when completely full. And speaking of full, there is plenty of room in this generous 13” x 17” x 8” wide bag for a load of books, supplies, diapers or treasures from the Farmer’s Market. It is the largest bag I make.

I think it would make a gift. It would also work well for an airline carry-on.
