This package includes five greeting cards which feature the same image but in five different color schemes.

Every year I make my own Winter Solstice cards to send out, and this year I decided to make some extra to sell on Etsy. It is a nice, religiously-neutral way to take part in holiday celebrations which have a long history, crossing many eras and cultures. For this year I designed an image which references the summer and winter solstices and autumn and spring equinoxes with a joyful pair of dancing humans in the center. This dynamic and well-balanced design symbolizes mankind in harmony with the natural universe.

"Solstice Dance" is an original relief print carved from a linoleum block and printed by hand with water-based ink on 5" x 7" white greeting cards. The print is signed and titled in pencil under the image with the edition number. Each color scheme was done in an edition of 10. Because they are printed by hand, each is unique. Send them to five special people for the holidays or frame them as works of art!

"Feeding" is an original relief print carved from wood block and printed with oil based ink on Mura Koban, a delicate and translucent Japanese paper. The print is signed and titled with its edition number in pencil. I print each piece by hand with a wooden rice paddle so every one is unique. This piece is one in a limited addition of 8. I used a reduction method meaning that the blocks were destroyed as part of the art-making process and no future editions can be printed from the wood blocks. This does not exclude digital reproductions, however, this print (and the others in this edition) are the original works of art.

This stunning, yet disturbing, image was inspired by contemplations of the tendency for both interdependence and cruelty in nature. Iguanas feed on the faceless woman because they are cold-blooded creatures who live in isolation (although they make impressive pets!) My kitten Kubaba was also a model.

The image measures 11.5" x 16". It comes with a bright white mat and acid free foam core backing which measure 16" x 20" – a standard frame size for customers' convenience.

"Leap" is an original relief print carved from wood blocks and printed with oil-based ink on Subi paper. The print is signed and titled with its edition number in pencil.

This work was originally commissioned as a gift for someone with a special affinity for monkeys. I've always been struck by beauty and grace with which spider monkeys leap from branch to branch and so I began this image by designing the pattern of slender acrobatic silhouettes. I love the way they interact with the other visual elements, especially how the two on either side of the screaming monkey create the illusion of one extremely long monkey behind him.

I print each piece by hand with a wooden rice paddle so every one is unique. This piece is in a limited edition of 8. I used a reduction method meaning that the blocks were destroyed in the art-making process and no future editions can be printed.

The image measures 8.25" x 10" and is printed on a 9" x 11" piece of paper. It comes with a white mat backing that measures 11" x 14" – a standard frame size for customers' convenience.

This particular print, inspired by the ever-presence of my cats in the mundane routines of my daily life, was created in 2006. The background colors are lighter and more subtle than my usual palette because I wanted to emphasize the orange ears and blue tail. The pattern of vines in the tub, accentuated woodgrain, and fantastical colors contribute to a dreamlike atmosphere. "View From the Tub" was first exhibited at the Plastic Club's "Small Worlds" show in Philadelphia and is scheduled to be exhibited this year at the University of North Carolina and Cabrini College.

This particular print, inspired by one of the habits of my cat Horatio (licking water off the side of the bathtub) was created in 2005. The cat maniacally laps a brightly colored citrus pattern, but behind him lurks a dark pattern of cat skulls. The text around the border reads: "I was born with my mouth open... entering this juicy world of peaches and lemons and ripe sun" and is quoted from the poem "Eating the World by James Tipton. "Lap Cat" has been exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

This is the only print in the series where Pinky himself isn't a dominant element. I like the way the light on the figure's stomach forms a sort of halo around his head. It is not meant to be clear whether the beetles are obscuring the woman's head or are her head.

Butterflies are an excellent symbol of both the beauty of being alive and the short and transient condition of life itself. The text at the bottom of this print reads: "I sit on this discourse ledge and pretend a while longer" and is paraphrased from the poem "Fa Jie Temple, Reliving an Ancient Practice" by Hsu Yun. I created this image for a friend whose favorite animal is the okapi, a rare and beautifully-odd animal found only in the Congo. To create this image, I read about both the animal and the region, and contemplated mankind's relationship with the wild. The text - "For I shall have already forgotten you" - comes from a Pablo Neruda poem translated into English.

I print each piece by hand with a wooden rice paddle so every one is unique. This piece exists as 2 limited editions of 4. I used a reduction method meaning that the blocks were destroyed in the art-making process and no future editions can be printed.

Dragonfly - Original Relief Woodblock Print

"Dragonfly" is an original relief print carved from wood block and printed with oil based ink on Mura Koban, a delicate and translucent Japanese paper. The print is signed and titled with its edition number in pencil. I print each piece by hand with a wooden rice paddle so every one is unique. This piece is one in a limited addition of 8. I used a reduction method meaning that the blocks were destroyed as part of the art-making process and no future editions can be printed from the wood blocks. This does not exclude digital reproductions, which I also print and sell at a cheaper rate (see the category "giclee prints" in my store). However, this print (and the others in this edition) are the original works of art.

This particular print, created in 2007, was inspired by the sunflowers I grew in front of my house. My cat Sasquatch was also a model. It addition to lively colors and cheerful imagery, this print features lovely accentuated woodgrain in the background.

The image measures 11.5" x 16". It comes with a bright white mat and acid free foam core backing which measure 16" x 20" – a standard frame size for customers' convenience.

This is the only print in the series where Pinky himself isn't a dominant element. I like the way the light on the figure's stomach forms a sort of halo around his head. It is not meant to be clear whether the beetles are obscuring the woman's head or are her head.

Hard to explain this image, but I like including bats and patterns in my artwork. I also enjoyed choosing the colors for this print, which are more subtle and less obvious than say black and white or black and orange.

"Pinky and the Miss Chiangmai Flower Festival" is an original relief print carved from a linoleum block and printed with oil-based ink on Subi paper. The print is signed, titled, and numbered in pencil. This is one print in an edition of 5.

The Miss Chiangmai Flower Festival is a real, annual event that takes places in Thailand. The words at the top read "...otherwise we will kill you and burn your houses." I took them from a newspaper article. The words were quoted from an Islamic extremist and directed toward Buddhists in Southern Thailand, warning them to leave. In this print, I meant to juxtapose something joyful with something frightening. Miss Chiangmai ends up looking more like a distorted old man than a beautiful young woman; a religious figure made of flowers seems more like a demon; and many of the flowers and other decorations become thorny, sharp, and otherwise ominous. It is unclear whether Pinky himself is part of the scene or merely an observer.

"Red Muumuu" is an original relief print carved from wood block and printed with oil based ink on Okawara, a handmade Japanese paper. The print is signed and titled with its edition number in pencil. I print each piece by hand with a wooden rice paddle so every one is unique. This piece is one in a limited addition of 7. The text in this dress reads: "Nobody ever gets what they want and that is beautiful" and is a quote from a song by They Might Be Giants. This piece has been exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and was published in Vol. 4 Issue 2 of "Philadelphia Stories".
