Hand knit and felted hand bag

$80.00
This gray and blue hand bag was entirely hand knit and felted by me. It was knit from 100% merino wool yarn. The blue stripe in the center is separated from the gray with two thin stripes of cream and black on either side. The bag was knit to a very large size and then intentionally shrunk in the washing machine (a process called fulling) to produce thick, sturdy wool felt. While drying, the purse was blocked by stuffing a board game box inside it (it took several days to dry). The stitches are no longer visible and the bag stands up on its own.

The black, cream, and blue swirl was needle felted onto the finished bag. Needle felting (also known as dry felting) is a process by which barbed needles are used to "stab" together dry wool and create felt. Needle felting is very tedious.

This bag took approximately 15 hours of labor and love to bring to life. My greatest wish is that someone will love this bag.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I will be happy to give you any information you require to make a decision about purchasing this bag.

Dimensions are approximately: 12" wide, 3.5" deep, 8" tall.

The bag has a small tag sewn inside which reads "Handmade by Sarah Breggin" (tag does not appear in photos because it was not yet applied. It is inside just below the back handle).

Hand knit and felted purse with pocket and long handles

$110.00
This green, and blue purse was entirely hand knit and felted by me. It was knit from 100% wool yarn. The main color is a forest green with a stripe of lime green and raspberry pink. The handles are navy blue. The bag was knit to a very large size and then intentionally shrunk in the washing machine (a process called fulling) to produce thick, sturdy wool felt. While drying, the purse was blocked by stuffing a board game box inside it (it took several days to dry). The stitches are no longer visible. The purse and handles have a fuzzy texture.

The pocket was wet and needle felted. Needle felting (also known as dry felting) is a process by which barbed needles are used to "stab" together dry wool and create felt. Needle felting is very tedious. The pocket was then hand stitched to the bag with tight and uniform stitches.

This bag took approximately 17 hours of labor and love to bring to life. My greatest wish is that someone will love this bag.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I will be happy to give you any information you require to make a decision about purchasing this bag.

Dimensions are approximately: 15" wide and 11" tall when laid flat.

The bag has a zipper closure to keep your items secure. I use only high quality zippers with a smooth zip.

The bag has a small tag sewn inside which reads "Handmade by Sarah Breggin" (tag does not appear in photos because it was not yet applied. It is inside just below the back edge).

Tree costume, wearable sculpture

$500.00
I made this costume for myself to wear on halloween this year (which I did). I do not rewear costumes from year to year (because I love making them and make a new one every year) and so it's time to sell it for someone else to wear to an event, whether for halloween or some other costume event. It would be good for nature activism or lord of the rings events (in fact, the costume is officially an Ent like Treebeard from the Lord of the Rings, but most people just recognized it as a tree, so I went with it).

I poured nearly 40 hours of work and blood sweat and tears into it. It contains $150+ of materials. It is essentially a wearable sculpture of paper mache. The armature is made with 1/4" hardware cloth (sculpted into shape), textured with crumpled recycled newspaper and tin foil, and paper mached over top of that. The paper mache was then painted (high quality Behr acrylic latex) and aged (with washed out dollar store paint). I added real moss (glued with high quality glue gun) and faux branches and leaves (purchased from Michaels and attached with wire or zap straps, with attachment points disguised with moss).

It is very lightweight to wear. Here is a video of me putting it on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3fJGg4xaKA

Here is a video of me walking in it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjEXM3dfzAU

The construction process was lovingly documented both with photographs (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2202050&id=25914115&l=49562332a7) and with this blog post (http://wished4this.livejournal.com/92155.html).

For lots more photos of the completed costume, see this album: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2202017&id=25914115&l=c39a4c8a9b

I have not entered any costume contest with this costume (except the one in my office, by accident).

I highly prefer the buyer to pick it up, but I will ship for the right offer. If you have a serious inquiry, please contact me so we can discuss the details.

The price is "or best offer".

Free with purchase (if desired): brown face paint, brown women's hoodie, brown pants.
