THE LOVELY: The only word for Larimar is beautiful! They are shades of blue and white, variegated like the sea and sky. I simply fell in love with this stone the first time I saw it! These have a few very small inclusions.

THE SPECS: They range from almost 8mm up to slightly over 11mm. There are 6 round beads and 1 rondelle. They are a bit uneven. Two of the larger ones are highly polished. The others have a more natural finish. They have a combined weight of approx. 45+ carats. Your package has all seven beads.

HISTORY and TRADITION: Larimar, also called the Atlantis stone, the blue form of Pectolite, (which is not an uncommon mineral itself,and which is usually gray or white,) only forms in these wonderful blues in the Dominican Republic, in one square kilometer. The area is difficult to mine, often subject to fierce and dangerous weather including hurricanes. This closes the mines down, sometimes for months at a time.

No two larimar stones are alike. The blues and whites mirror the sea and sky, and the stone was actually named after the daughter of the Dominican geologist who was part of the team that brought us this lovely stone. The girl's name was Larissa, and her father combined this with Mar, the Spanish word for Sea, creating the unique and romantic name.

The stone is considered to be one of the rarest gems on earth. Once the supply is exhausted, unless other sites are eventually found, it will become unavailable. We ourselves are looking at larimar as, not only beautiful for jewelry, but an investment stone.
