"Is this handmade?"
Anything crochet is always hand-made. Crochet is the last fiber art that cannot (yet) be replicated by any machine. All crochet in this store is individually and uniquely designed and hand-made by me.

About the "Squiggle" Design:

"Squiggle" hats are one of my more popular hat designs in Austin, TX and have been purchased specifically for bike around town fund-raisers, ski trips, games, outdoor live music concerts and other outdoor special events. You name it - gotta have your crazy, fun, styling hat when you're tooling around Austin on your bike, traveling down the ski slopes, at the ball game, jamming at the live band capital of the world or otherwise celebrating something!

This has also been a popular design with some PE teachers and coaches down here!

This particular hat design is completely original to me and called a "squiggle hat" due to the "squiggle" that hangs like a pony-tail from the top back of the hat. (Not too unlike the doodles on classroom notebooks these days.)

How Soft?

The texture of this hat is super cuddly soft to the touch! (The kind I have to stand extra guard over at shows so people don't just bury their face into it, tempting as it may be.) The materials utilized here are very soft and would certainly be comfortably appropriate for anyone under chemo care.

The Making:

This squiggle hat has been created with various crochet techniques and from a variety of microfibers from the US. There are no uncomfortable seams in this crochet piece. The main cap is completely sculpted as one piece, with the separate squiggle permanently attached.

Perfect to show off your style during the holidays, on hikes and bikes, at the ice skating rink, at the ball game or on the ski slopes!

SIZE: One Size fits most heads ages 10 and up. Hats do have comfortable stretch and "thermal" affect and will "grow" with adult or child owners.

CARE: Hand or spot wash. Due to the micro-fibers, I always recommend spot clean first, though the yarns are hand washable. Believe it or not, these fibers hold up well, even in rain and snow and will dry well just fine on their own. But the texture will change a bit if completely soaked and agitated too much.

TOOLS: My hook of choice for this creation is a DayStar custom wood hook original. I firmly believe in the use of custom tools and a variety of texturing techniques and fibers from around the world. Hands down, it makes for a better quality product and experience.

"MAX The Goblin" is a fun crochet hat with funky goblin ears (exclusively designed by Aberrant Crochet(TM) at Pixie Worx!(TM))

From our "Goblin Hat" line, this cutie is created in magenta, orange and creamy undertones, with flecks of blue and yellow dotted throughout the design. These Goblin Ears here are a wider sort of ear, angling first out then up towards the back of the head.

Altogether, a fun, eclectic and self-confident style!

WHAT ARE GOBLIN HATS?

"Goblin Hats" come with stories, as each Little Gobin has a personality type all its own. Awaiting anxiously for adoption, these little beasties have a mind of their own and an energy to share!

The fiber of "Max The Goblin" was created from a blended mixture of microfibers from the US. There are no uncomfortable seams in this crochet piece. This hat is completely sculpted as one piece, including the ears.

Being sculpted all in one piece instead of in assembly line style is good for you the customer because the ears of this hat are less likely to mis-shapen even when caked with water and snow (even dirt, mud or snags). But also, the ears can not accidentally work themselves loose or come off (without cutting) at all! It is also a sign of quality and technique, because sculpting all in one piece involves more difficult crochet design to consistently achieve and match two ears on one hat this way. Making your Aberrant Crochet hat even more incredibly unique!

I wish you could feel how soft this hat is! It utilizes high-quality microfibers and would be very soft to the scalp of anyone going through chemo. (Please see my FAQs for more info on my work and the materials I use.)

Named "Dorothy" after my grandmother who helped teach me to crochet and sew, this Aberrant HeadGear(TM) cloche by Pixie Worx!(TM) is created in black, white and shades of gray, finished off with a black embroidered bow done "flower style" and topped with a "cherry red" center.

The fabric of this hat was created from various crochet techniques and a blended mixture of microfibers and mohair from the US. There are no uncomfortable seams in this cloche. It is completely sculpted as one piece, with the exception of the black band and the embroidered flower-bow which are sewn securely and permanently into place.

Perfect to show off your style during the holidays, in the garden, church, or at the ice skating rink!

Our story:

My Grandma Dorothy is a lymphoma cancer survivor at 89 years old and just recently finished her latest round of chemo. Both my grandmothers who taught me to crochet (since Mom was left-handed and I wasn't) have been incredible resources and examples to me my entire life. It is absolutely because of them that I crochet, even being able to push the bar to do things never thought of before. Grandma Dorothy has always been an inspiration to me, as with every round of chemo she keeps a smile on her face, a ready hug for every person she knows and crochets yet another little hat to go on with her day. You'd hardly know what all she's been through. Unfortunately my Grandma Leona lost her battle with cancer two years ago next month, and she is sorely missed.

There are too many cancer victims and survivors in my family, now including my mother. As such, I now often crochet with these in mind; choosing the softest, highest quality materials I can find for the tenderest skin going through chemo. I've also received a lot of highly appreciated input from survivors over the years that has led to the development and creation of these unique designs. May these creations bless everyone they touch.

"Not a Joiner," is a fun crochet ski hat with a long dangle from the back of the ski hat - exclusively designed by Aberrant Crochet(TM) and Pixie Worx!(TM)

This fantastic statement of a hat was inspired by an honest appreciation for everyone out there who can say they're "Not a Joiner" by nature. Created in "shades of sunny yellow, orange and red," the dangly alien antennae is roughly 22-23" long and the hat is crocheted "long" so that the brim can be rolled up or can be worn a little long (roomy) on the top/back of the hat.

This hat will definitely be noticed on the slopes or off!

Altogether, a fun, eclectic and self-confident style that is definitely at home in Austin!

THE YARNS: The fiber of this hat was created from a blended mixture of 4 different microfibers from the US. It was crocheted to create a "thermal blanket" effect that allows it to be warm, and yet also breathe (yep - just like a traditional thermal blanket). There are no uncomfortable seams in this crochet piece. It is completely sculpted as one piece, including the dangling antennae, so it will never be tempted to pull off. Makes a cute as well as cool look!

"CottonCandy Goblin" is a fun crochet hat with goblin ears (exclusively designed by Aberrant Crochet(TM) at Pixie Worx!(TM))

From our "Goblin Hat" line, this cutie is created in "bubblegum pink" and "shades of pastel blue." Hints of other pastels are incorporated all throughout this hat as well. The Goblin Ears here are longer and tied with light blue blows. And the tails to this hat are left hanging for an eclectic twist. A handful of my clients have begun asking me to leave tails hanging from their hats, instead of weaving them all the way through. So now I leave a few this way just to accomodate these unique personal preferences. However, it is a simple process to weave the tails in for anyone who would rather they did not show. Soft Custom Crochet Wing Style Shawl - Aberrant Crochet

This listing is for a *custom* mantle shawl made from soft micro-fibers. Please note: the pictured mantle shawl is a stock photo of a shawl that has now recently sold at one of my shows (purchased by the lady you see modeling it for me!) and is representative of my work for this type of shawl. This particular one was probably my softest shawl ever.

But never fear! You can set up a custom order for a wing-type mantle shawl like this made from colors you choose yourself! A mantle is a shorter type of shawl. Many ladies like them for custom orders because they are light and warm, can be worn easily like a stole with a nice dress and also have the advantage of using about 1/4 to 1/3 less yarn than average shawls.

Upon checkout, we will get in touch and discuss your range of colors. Special sizing or the use of cashmere, alpaca or silk can be added with a $20 upcharge for materials for either and depending on local availability in your chosen colors.

Little Miss Muffet - Dangling Spider Fan Pull - Aberrant Crochet...

Great for decor or costumes, this dangling spider can be placed just about anywhere, including on our spider web umbrellas!

THE STORY:

I have a thing for spiders. I admit it. And I love their intricate "fiber" work. Which is what got me into crocheting spider webs and replicas of designs what I've seen created in my own yard.

But my spiders have to look a certain way or I just don't like them. I came across these darling little spider "jingle bells" though they are not made at all like jingle bells. They are of solid enclosed construction with strong unmovable limbs. I liked the simple silhouette like design and snatched up a what I found thinking I would also look online for more. There aren't anymore! I can't find them anywhere!

So get 'em while you can!

THIS ITEM:

This dangling spider bell (has a little soft jingle inside) is securely crocheted with a special loose stitch I developed to replicate the snaggy silk thread a spider often dangles from as they drop and wind, drop and wind their silk. The end is secured with a lobster claw clasp and can be clipped to an umbrella frame, a spider web, a ceiling fan pull or anywhere else you can hook a lobster claw clasp.

Great for a Little Miss Muffet costume!

My "Spider Web Umbrella," an Aberrant Crochet(TM) original design, consists of one of my unique tough crocheted spider web designs, securely attached to a fully-functional white J-handled automatic umbrella (one-touch button pops it open), providing dramatic visual appeal that gets even better with a black light!

Not only can this umbrella be used as part of a costume, but it provides a great way to display a large spider web motif in a corner or on a table when tying one up somewhere is not possible.

This Spider Web Umbrella design was inspired by my fascination with spiders and their complicated "fiber" designs. But also my love for Halloween as simply the most fun holiday of the year! It is the one time as a serious adult and parent that I get absolute permission to dress up and act silly - yeah! My "Spider Web Umbrella," an Aberrant Crochet(TM) original design, consists of one of my unique tough crocheted spider web designs, securely attached to a fully-functional silvery white J-handled automatic umbrella (one-touch button pops it open), providing dramatic visual appeal that gets even better with a black light!

Not only can this umbrella be used as part of a costume, but it provides a great way to display a large spider web motif in a corner or on a table when tying one up somewhere is not possible.

This Spider Web Umbrella design was inspired by my fascination with spiders and their complicated "fiber" designs. But also my love for Halloween as simply the most fun holiday of the year! It is the one time as a serious adult and parent that I get absolute permission to dress up and act silly - yeah! THE STORY:

I kinda have a thing for spiders. Our family Halloween tradition every year involves a giant spider web going up between our trees at the beginning of October. Then slowly, but surely, spiders and more webs begin showing up throughout the weeks, until eventually, there's an all out infestation at our house in time for Halloween! (Someday I think it'd be fun to pose some fight scenes on our roof!) Anyway, making spider webs of various shapes and sizes stems from all that quirky fun we like to have! One of my friend's neighbors literally tie up old dolls and stuffed animals into their giant spider web lawn display to add to the fun!

ABOUT THIS SPIDER WEB:

You might notice that this particular spider web, though smaller in diameter, has many more radials than most of my webs. This characteristic gives this web more versatility in shaping as needed.

This particular spider web is one of my doorway designs containing 25 radials and a diameter of about 33 inches. Though it is possible to stretch it a little further, I only recommend displaying it up to 33 inches. The doorway this web is photographed in is actually 31 inches wide. When displaying, pull the edges snugly taut, but not stressed. Stressing the yarn will shorten the life of your web. As you will see here, your web will fit slightly different shapes depending on where you place stretch tension on the outside rims.

You will receive the exact spider web you see pictured in the four main photos here. The 5th photo is for demo ideas only.

For display purposes in these photos, this web is displayed both as tacked up on a bulletin (cork) board as well as stretched and tacked behind a door frame. Binder clips, small bungees, duct or gaffers tape all work great, as do also tacks, zip ties and beaded ponytail holders, depending on where you are displaying your web. If tying up a spider web indoors does not work for you, consider using one of my spider web umbrellas in a corner a great alternative instead.

Webs are great for display indoors or out, in classrooms, between trees, over porches and garages, spread across ceilings, windows and even doorways. Having a party but you have a room or area you'd like to keep the guests out of? Block it off with a spider web! These are also great for display at art/craft shows! In the photos you'll notice an example of a 10 foot web used on the side of my tent for a Fall show. It's quite the attention getter! Webs are also great for wearing as a costume cape and with black lights!

This design utilizes another modified version of my railroad choker design.

Crocheted with soft cotton thread, this choker incorporates a red Czech glass bead at the center of it's sun motif pendant, which is crocheted (not sewn) to the choker. Securely crafted and complete with lobster claw clasp.

SIZE: This sun motif is about 1.25" in diameter. The entire choker itself measures 15" in length and will comfortably stretch to 16.25", though it can stretch further.

All Aberrant Crochet cotton jewelry is blocked and pressed without starch or chemicals. With allergies today, I just do not use any chemicals on my jewelry. With proper storage, crochet jewelry will maintain their shape for years to come. However, if for some reason it needs it, a careful and gentle ironing with or without starch will suffice.

CARE: Spot wash only - air dry. Gentle and careful iron as needed. Do not iron plastic eyes or threads that contain sparkle.

Gourmet crocheted with high-end microfibers, this OOAK Aberrant HeadGear(TM) design is named "Spring Garden," by Pixie Worx!(TM) is created in blues, greens, purples, roses, yellows and a splash of sparkle and other flower colors as well - just like a spring garden of flowers glistening with dew!

The texture of this hat was created from various crochet techniques and from a blended mixture of 5 different microfibers from Italy, Turkey and the US. There are no uncomfortable seams in this crochet piece. It is completely sculpted as one piece.

It is unusual to create a piece like this with so many different fibers and textures all blended together throughout the entire hat - at a minimum of 60 yards each - and yet still be supple, soft and light weight. There will never be another hat remotely like this one!

Perfect to show off your style during the holidays, at the ice skating rink or on the ski slopes!

SIZE: One Size fits most heads ages 10 and up. Hats do have comfortable stretch and "thermal" affect and will "grow" with adult or child owners.

CARE: Hand or spot wash. Due to the micro-fibers, I always recommend spot clean first, though the yarns are hand washable. Believe it or not, these fibers hold up well, even in rain and snow and will dry well just fine on their own. But the texture will change a bit if completely soaked and agitated too much.

Ski Hat with a Squiggle - an Aberrant Crochet Design

Named "Cross Country," this hat is created in indigo, rust, purple, rust and cream with hints/splashes of greens from high-quality microfibers.

It is aptly named for it's reminiscence to a colorful Central Texas wilderness hike 'n bike, or a cross country ski amongst purple mountain majesty!

This is one of my more popular hat styles in Austin, TX and has been purchased specifically for bike around town fund-raisers and events as well. Gotta have your crazy, fun, styling hat when you're tooling around Austin on your bike!

About the "Squiggle" Design:

This particular hat design is completely original to me and called a "squiggle hat" due to the "squiggle" that hangs like a pony-tail from the top back of the hat. (Not too unlike the doodles on classroom notebooks these days.)

How Soft?

The texture of this hat is super cuddly soft to the touch! (The kind I have to stand extra guard over at shows so people don't just bury their face into it, tempting as it may be.) The materials utilized here are amongst the softest and would certainly be comfortably appropriate for anyone under chemo care.

The Making:

This squiggle hat has been created with various crochet techniques and from a variety of microfibers from the US. There are no uncomfortable seams in this crochet piece. It is completely sculpted as one piece, with the squiggle permanently attached.

CARE: Hand or spot wash. Due to the super soft micro-fibers, I always recommend spot clean first, though the yarns are hand washable. Believe it or not, the fibers I use hold up well, even in rain and snow and will dry well just fine on their own. But the texture will change a bit if completely soaked and agitated too much.

TOOLS: I firmly believe in the use of custom wood tools and a variety of texturing techniques and fibers from around the world. Hands down, it makes for a better quality product and experience.

Crocheted "ear" hats are an Aberrant Crochet (TM) specialty from my Aberrant HeadGear(TM) line of designs.

This detailed 4-page pattern offers a beefy “artsy” newsboy beret with slim and newsboy variations. Includes glossary of terms, full color photos and instructions for S, M, L, XL sizing, striping and brim options.

Stitches are over-all fairly straight forward. However, this pattern requires prior knowledge of how to use multiple yarns at once through-out and some elements of this pattern require tapestry crochet skills and interchanging colors.

As such, this pattern ranks as intermediate crochet according to pattern standards guidelines.

Notes on Materials Needed:

Four or more yarns are required for this pattern. The brands listed in this pattern are not required for this pattern to work as mentioned in the variation. Vintage Glass and Stone -80's Stylish Double Layer Wire-Wrapped Silver Necklace

I love jewelry and have been collecting unusual pieces all my life. But over time I have kept way too much that I don't wear. So I'll be listing a few pieces in hopes that someone else, who can really appreciate these unique beauties, will give them a good home for me.

ABOUT THIS ITEM:

This is a double chain necklace that I bought at a boutique nearly 20 years ago while in college. And wore only once. I have no idea who made it. I even thought about taking it apart for the beads, but there would be no way to salvage the chain.

It features black stone beads, along with white and tan glass beads that are reminiscent of clear quartz and smokey quartz, strung along two silver plated snake chains and accented with silver colored 4mm beads. Seven stone and glass beads in all. Each glass or stone bead is wrapped in silver colored wire, perhaps plated wire, but I don't know.

This necklace is slightly tarnished, which I tend to prefer for character. But I will leave any polishing up to you.

Named "The BubbleGum Goblin," this Aberrant HeadGear(TM) specialty is a fun crochet hat complete with funky "Goblin" ears (exclusively designed by Aberrant Crochet(TM) at Pixie Worx!(TM))

From our "Goblin Hat" line, this cutie is created in "shades of gumball red, pink and yellow." Photos to the right show the hat worn both "tall" or loose on the head and "tight" where it's pulled all the way down to fight snug against the head.

Altogether, a fun, eclectic and self-confident style that is definitely at home in Austin!

WHAT ARE GOBLIN HATS?

"Goblin Hats" come with stories, as each Little Gobin has a personality type all its own. Awaiting anxiously for adoption, these little beasties have a mind of their own and an energy to share! (Might do you well to read their story cards for personality descriptions before inviting them home!) ;)

The fiber of this hat was created from a blended mixture of microfibers from the US. There are no uncomfortable seams in this crochet piece. It is completely sculpted as one piece, including the ears, so they will not be tempted to come off down the road. Makes a cute as well as cool look!
