And in their tradition of daring, they dare to be different with one heart in yellow and one in brown. The hearts were made by Chic Beads. These fun earrings hang down from sterling earwires by about 2”.

All images ©2008 Kathleen Huss
The Fox and the Grapes

$30.00
From Aesop's Fables comes this Figments original jacket. Done in purples, greens and brown, the jacket depicts Aesop's tale of the Fox and the Grapes. Two different grape patterned fabrics are used on the right sleeve while the left sleeve uses a solid purple and a grape pattern on a white background. The front of the jacket uses purple, green and both grape patterns and closes with a 1 3/8" decorative brown button. On the back a fox sits on the right hand side, looking up at a bunch of grapes hanging from a branch on the left side of the jacket. The fox is machine appliqued onto the fabric and his tongue and facial features are hand embroidered. The tree is painted on in green and black fabric paint and the large bunch of grapes and grape leaf are machine appliqued. A button depicting a small bunch of grapes hangs from a smaller branch. The entire jacket is lined in purple. It is a slouch style jacket and does not have a specific form. It is made for a larger sized woman though it is not made to a specific size (I wear a 12 and it is a bit large for me). I would say probably size 16-18.

It is fully machine washable.

All images ©2007 Kathleen Huss
The fair princess is cursed by the evil fairy or witch who was not invited to her christening. She pricks her finger on a spindle and falls asleep for 100 years while a wall of briars grows around the castle. Eventually a prince makes his way into the castle and wakes her with a kiss.

This Figment tells that tale with a pink etched lampwork bead and three lovely clear beads with swirls of pink, all by Chic of Chic Beads, cultured pearls, rose quartz, snowflake obisidian, Russian serpentine, Russian jade, black tourmaline, watermelon tourmaline, pink cat’s eye, red jasper, a triangular piece of white pearl, cloisonné, black onyx, white onyx, amethyst, malachite, sodalite and lapis beads as well as Tierra Cast lead free pewter beads and bead caps.

All images ©2008 Kathleen Huss

They measure 1 3/8” in length and hang from sterling silver ear wires and come with rubber stoppers.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

Herb Woman's Cottage - SALE Priced

$20.00
This three dimensional miniature “room” lets us peek into the world of an herb woman or hedge witch. We can look through the glass or the front panel can be raised for a closer view. Inside her little cottage can be seen the clean whitewashed walls, her flower bedecked door (with a friendly cardinal sitting on the frame), her besom leaning against the cabinet and a moon chart framed in silver hanging on the wall. In her hutch she keeps all her books of herbcraft and wisdom as well as bowls of herbs, a pumpkin, a silver bowl for scrying, her silver goblet, a cauldron and bottles of what appear to be wine. Her faithful cat, Myrddin, sleeps on the shelf, keeping half an eye on all that goes on. Just inside the door is a portrait of a lovely girl. Is this the cottage’s resident, or perhaps her daughter?

The door is a lovely piece of polymer clay work by etsy’s own zudagay. The small portrait was done by another etsy artisan, rachealanilyse.

The glass-sided box measures 7 3/8” across x 6” high x 4 5/8” deep. The wood has been stained and the glass panels have been painted. The front of the box opens upwards and can be left open or closed. The glass on the front has been left unpainted so the scene can be viewed easily.

All images ©2008 Kathleen Huss

Miss Dora - An ACEO

$10.00
“Be kind or civil,
False or true”

This one-of-a-kind three dimensional ACEO original features a vintage tin type photograph, a decorative skeleton key, a heart with a keyhole, the front of a model train, a stamped brass decorative piece and the word “BELIEVE”. The background is a lovely piece of 3.5” by 2.5” stained pine. It is signed and dated on the back. All of my ACEOs come with a small wooden stand for display purposes.

The tintype used on this ACEO came in a small paper frame. Handwritten in pencil on the back was the poem above. Above the poem is written “Miss Laura Squires”. Below it appears to be signed “Miss Dora Gates”. The inside of the paper frame indicates the photographer was Alvin Hovey (1827-1903) of Burr Oak, Kansas and on the front of the frame, written in pencil, it says “Miss Dora Gates, Burr Oak”.
The title of this piece and the poem were handwritten in pencil on the back of a paper display card the tintype came in. This has been put into a hard plastic ACEO case and will be included with this ACEO.
ACEO stands for "Art Cards, Editions & Originals". They are miniature works of art with one main rule, they always measure 2.5" x 3.5". They are an inexpensive way to buy original or limited edition art.

All images ©2008 Kathleen Huss
The silvery ring around the middle does move so the piece is not completely static. The pendant measures 2 5/8” in length and hangs from a black rattail necklace cord measuring 22 3/4” in length. It has been knotted at the end, making it easy to slip over the head. A simple retying of the knot can also make the cord shorter if desired.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

His tail can be made to swing from one side to the other. He can be hung anywhere you think he’d look good: a rearview mirror, in a window as a suncatcher, from the ceiling, in front of a mirror…. The possibilities are endless. He will keep you company wherever you hang him.

The dragon is 1 1/2” long and the entire piece measures 6 1/4” long.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

$10.00
The twins, DeLila and DeLoris Kilebrew-LaFontaine, were married on the same day to twin brothers, Edmund and Eduardo Smythe-Jones. For their honeymoon they were to travel by private zeppelin from London to Vienna where they would board the Orient Express to take them to Budapest.

Sadly, the newlyweds never made it to Vienna. Their zeppelin was boarded by Tsarist rebels over Prague. The rebels took all the valuables they could find on board, tied the crew and passengers up and blew the hapless craft up as they sailed off. Little was salvaged from the wreckage besides a watch face that had belonged to Miss DeLoris and a piece of Miss DeLila’s locket, along with a charred cork from a wine bottle. Their father was inconsolable and in his grief he took the pitiful remnants of his beloved daughters, along with a rose petal from the wedding flowers, a tatter of lace from a Christening gown and locks of their hair cut when they were babies and placed them in a bottle as a memento of his lost progeny. He attached a picture of the twins to the outside of the bottle to complete his memento mori and always kept it nearby.

This was my winning entry in the SteamTeam’s “Frozen in Time” contest. The idea was to create a piece of the past, frozen in time. The bottle measures 4 ½” high and 6 5/8” around.

This item is not available for immediate shipment. I am hoping to have it available by the 15th of November.

All images ©2008 Kathleen Huss

She says “Tatting is the art of making a very durable form of lace with knotted stitches using either a shuttle or needle. While there is a very vibrant tatting community, it is often regarded as a lost art by the general population that has had little exposure to this unique and timeless craft.” In an effort to expose tatting to a wider audience she created this challenge and I have taken her up on it.

My Lost Heart brooch uses one of TotusMel’s 2” hand tatted medallions. It has been carefully hand sewn to a brass filigree base and 4mm round opalite beads have been sewn onto the tatted medallion. A beautiful 15mm x 12mm faceted opalite pillow bead is wired to the center of the filigree piece with copper wire. Three pieces dangle below the medallion. They are made of opalite and black glass beads on lovely decorative brass headpins which are attached to the filigree with jump rings and small lengths of brass chain. The pin is attached to the filigree with copper wire. No glue has been used on this piece. The entire piece is 2” wide by 3 ¾” long.

All images ©2008 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

Lampwork Treasure - A Viking Style Necklace

$75.00
The Vikings made glass beads using a primitive form of lampworking. Grave finds show they used many different colors and patterns as well as different sizes and types of beads (usually round and longer tube-like beads). Beads were a portable form of wealth so the more beads strung together, the wealthier the owner.

The beads used in this piece were made by three different Indiana lampworkers. In addition, there are two beads of Yemeni Agate. In total, there are 71 beads of varying size, color and shape in this necklace which measures 25” in length. The beads are strung on waxed linen cord which has been securely knotted.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

Hades, god of the underworld, fell in love with Persephone and desired her hand in marriage. While Zeus consented, Demeter did not, so Hades carried Persephone off to his realm. Demeter went searching for her daughter and the earth was devastated by famine. Zeus sent Hermes to retrieve Persephone but, before letting her go, Hades asked her to eat a pomegranate seed, also called the food of the dead, thus compelling her to return to the underworld for 4 months each year. Thus Persephone became both a goddess of the dead and of the earth’s feritility.

This representation of Persephone features a stunning white goddess bead by Chic of Chic Beads suspended on a decorative sterling silver head pin and hanging from a Tierra Cast lead-free pewter bail. Beads of white onyx, sterling silver, plated silver and green glass, along with Tierra Cast lead-free pewter spacers, are strung on 20” of tiger tail and the whole is closed with a lovely silvery clasp. The pendant portion of this piece measures 1 3/4" in length.

All images ©2008 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

$59.99
Professor Anton Cholotov was once a world renowned explorer and finder of unusual objects. He travelled around the globe in search of ever more unusual artifacts until the year he returned raving about a magical lamp he had found in the far-off land of Tupillil. He placed the lamp on his desk but never, ever lit it. If asked why not, his only answer was “NO!” He would not let his housekeeper, Mrs. Favrisham, dust in his study for fear her curiosity would lead her to attempt to light the lamp.

After his return from Tupillil the Professor never travelled again, always staying at home, going over his old journals and notes. Then one evening he did not emerge from his study for his usual supper. Mrs. Favrisham finally knocked on the door and received no answer. She knocked several more times and finally got up the courage to open the door. To her amazement, the lamp was lit but there was no sign of the Professor! She fearfully pulled the cord to extinguish the lamp and left the room, closing the door firmly behind her.

Professor Cholotov was never seen or heard from again. Mrs. Favrisham continued to live in the Professor’s old house until her death at the age of 113, but she never again entered the study. When the solicitors came to inventory the contents of the house they found the lamp, still sitting on the Professor’s desk, with a tiny note next to it. Upon examination with a magnifying glass it was found to read “To light this lamp is not advised. Please be careful or you could be resized.”

This lamp CAN be lit. It takes a ceiling fan sized light bulb (standard size light bulb base, however). Due to the embellishment around the pull chain one must pull the chain horizontally so it does not catch on the gear. The lamp measures 17 1/4” high and the base is 4 1/2” x 4 1/2”. The lamp is made of brass, gears, aluminum and glass. The marble base has leather on the bottom to protect surfaces. The lamp will be shipped disassembled.

PLEASE NOTE: THE SHIPPING COSTS LISTED INCLUDE INSURANCE FOR ALL DESTINATIONS (Insured for $100). Shipping will be via Parcel Post for all US destinations and Priority Mail International for non-US destinations. If you prefer alternative shipping methods (to include UPS or FEDex) please convo me BEFORE paying for the item.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

The two symbols were combined in the pretty little focal of this necklace. It has been strung on 20” of tiger tail beading cord, along with pewter beads and small metallic beads. The closure is a lobster claw style clasp.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

While not belt buckle size as the ones in the story are, the focal measures 1 1/4”. It is strung on 21” of tiger tail beading cord along with beads of wood, brass, carnelian, rainbow jasper and freshwater pearls. The clasp is a small lobster claw style clasp.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

This hand appears to be made of silver and has swirl patterns embossed into it. In the center is a small blue triangle set on top of a slightly larger triangle. The hand measures 1 1/2” in length and is strung on 21” of tiger tail bead cord. The other beads on this necklace include pewter, blue moss agate, blue lapis glass, brass, bamboo, silver and terra cotta.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com

The hexagonal piece measures 1 1/8” high by 1” wide and is fully reversible with the images on each side being very different. It has been framed in silver and hangs from 18” of black waxed linen cord. The clasp is a pretty Tierra Cast lead-free pewter toggle. The beads in this piece include rainbow jasper, sterling silver, jasper, black glass, glass e-beads and silver plated round beads. A stunning piece to keep for yourself or give as a gift.

All images ©2009 Kathleen Huss

SRAJD Member #1239
(Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer)
www.SRAJD.com
