Are the nights where you live cold? Maybe you just don't want to put another layer of clothing on a protesting child! Then the soft, stretchy legs of Green Way Wool Longies will make your little one warm and cozy any time of year.

Designed to be worn alone or under other pants for protection against the deep cold, the legs of our longies fit somewhat like sweatpants, and have a ribbed cuff at the ankle which can be turned up to adjust length.

A unique ribbed area between baby's legs stretches to fit over even bulky night-time diapers, and contracts to fit trimly under day-time clothes like bodysuits. It also makes the entire cover very stretchy and easy to put on wiggly little ones. The ribbed waist has a convenient tie cord - I send two. The leg openings come more from the front, where babies legs usually are anyway, leaving ample room in the back to fit over thick diapers without pulling down at the waist (which can cause wicking of liquid into clothing).

These longies are breathable so your baby stays rash free and doesn't overheat. This diaper cover is truly "nightworthy" and "bulletproof" to use words from two happy customers. Wool can absorb 30-40% of it's weight in liquid, while keeping the rest inside. It also has natural antibacterial qualities from the lanolin.

They are knit from super-soft merino wool, in your choice of 17 colors. To choose your color, please convo the number (1-19) from the sampler image to me or include it at checkout. Numbers 11 and 12 are no longer available.

Sizing:
small (6-12 lbs) legs have 7" inseam including 2" ribbed cuff
medium (12-22 lbs) legs have 10" inseam including 2" ribbed cuff
large (20-32 lbs) slightly tapered legs have 14" inseam including 2" ribbed cuff

Request up to 2 extra inches of length on the legs for no extra charge. Longer than that is $5/2 inches. Cuffs are designed so they can be turned up. To figure out the length you need to measure the inside of baby's leg with diaper on from diaper to desired length.

Directions for knitting Soakers, Shorties, and Longies all included

Wool diaper covers are the best protection against wetness over a cloth diaper that you'll find. This pattern has evolved over the course of many months of personal use and through selling knitwear to people on Etsy and my website - and getting rave reviews along the way. All the variations will serve you equally well.
I have included many photos of key points in the pattern, all taken at high resolutions that should print out well. Throughout the pattern I give tips for how to adjust it to get the best fit for your needs, but if you run into something I don't address please contact me and I'll help you out. I would call this an experienced beginner pattern, as there are a few things not found in the standard beginner pattern, such as a wrap and turn and directional decreases.

Here are some of the basics you will need to know ...

The pattern will be delivered as an attachment in .pdf format to your _PayPal_ email address unless you specify another address. The pattern .pdf is password protected - your Etsy username is your password for opening the pattern.

You will need:
One pair each of US sizes 4 and 6 16" circular needles
One set each of US sizes 4 and 6 7" double pointed needles (DPN's)
Stitch markers (2)
Stitch holder
Size H crochet hook (for longies or shorties)

Gauge:
20 stitches and 24 rows in a 4x4" square in stockinette stitch. Adjust needle size to obtain correct gauge.

Yarn:
DK merino wool, approximately 125 yard balls
S ~ (cover or shortie) 1, (longies) 2
M ~ (cover or shortie) 2, (longies) 3
L ~ (cover or shortie) 2, (longies) 3

Green Way Organic Wool Soaker, 3 colors, size M

Organic wool ... this stuff is a dream come true! Buttery-soft, the hand knit soakers almost have the feel of rich chenille fabric. And not only does the organic wool feel luxurious, it is 100% chemical free, sheared from sheep raised on an organic farm in Michigan. You can be assured that the garment your baby is wearing has had minimal impact on the planet, and will have no chemical impact on him or her. The wool is cleaned using only salt and water, and is spun on an antique spinning mule. If your child is allergic to wool I would be happy to send a small sample of this organic wool - often wool allergies come from the processing chemicals rather than the wool itself!

The wool is merino/ramboulillet, in your choice of three undyed colors - a creamy natural, a warm light grey, and a medium grey (they light grey is made by mixing wool from the light sheep and the dark sheep), these soakers are breathable so your baby stays cool and rash free even on the hottest summer days. This yarn is thicker than the merino wool I use for my standard diaper covers, and it makes a much denser fabric. This means that the soakers are much more water repellent ... I'm sure there are a few babies out there who could soak through this cover, but probably not very many!

There are no seams, and the ribbed waist has a convenient tie cord - I send two because I know things like that have a way of disappearing. Squeeze water out by hand (no rubbing or wringing or you may end up with a partially felted and shrunken cover), then squeeze again rolled up in a towel. Lay flat or hang dry away from direct heat or sunlight (sunlight will actually discolor the wet yarn).

I developed this design after becoming frustrated with the fit and function of so many of the patterns and products available in wool diaper covers. These covers have a unique ribbed area between baby's legs that stretches to fit over even bulky night-time diapers, without being too bunchy under day-time clothes like bodysuits.

Knit from super-soft merino wool, in your choice of 18 colors, these covers are breathable so your baby stays cool and rash free. Wool also absorbs nearly 40% of its weight in liquid without feeling wet and allows moisture to evaporate leaving your baby dry and happy. As well, wool does not promote bacteria growth and when dry, won't smell. This all sounds hard to believe until you try it, but I have a super-soaker little boy and his clothes rarely get more than slightly damp over night.

This cover only needs to be washed every 2 weeks or when soiled. I generally rotate between two covers throughout a day, letting one air out while the other is on. I keep two others in reserve or drying from being washed.

To extend the range of any of these sizes I recommend adding the optional leg bands -- smaller babies will fit in the next larger size sooner since the leg openings won't gape. The baby in the picture is 12.5 pounds and is wearing the size medium -- the rise offers lots of growing room and the leg holes are a little big. He still fits the small, but they are not comfortable for him with a thick diaper. A really tight cover doesn't keep dampness in as well. Keep in mind, too, that a long thin baby will fit the smaller size much longer, as will one who wears trim-fit diapers. I find that my boy goes back and forth between sizes as he gets chubby and then stretches in length.

You can also request optional leg bands for $5/cover, and if your baby has larger or smaller than average thighs I can customize leg openings for an extra $2/cover if you tell me how big you need them in an email prior to paying. S/M Wool blanket bag

What better way to keep your infant cozy and dry than with a knit blanket bag! The idea is simple - rather than try to fit those tiny little legs into longies or pajamas you can leave them free to kick around in the sack. You still get all the wetness protection that wool has to offer. Lanolize your blanket bag the same way you would longies or a soaker and you are set for a dry bed in the morning. Or use a blanket bag over a soaker for super protection from wetness - perfect for the family bed.

This blanket bag is set up as a size Small/Medium. It is a size Small when you have the long ribbed section around your baby's stomach, keeping them warm and giving them a cozy sense of security. You can choose to tie the bottom or leave it open. To use as a size Medium, flip the sack around so that the drawstring opening is around your baby's waist. This makes the sack longer, leaving more kick room for longer legs and making more room for bigger diapers, too.

The blanket bag should fit a baby from birth through about 6 months, depending, of course, on how quickly their legs grow! The Small waist opening is about 10" around and the Medium opening is about 12." Both are very stretchy. The sack is about 17" long.

(I apologize for the doll model - my son is now 28 pounds/30" and way beyond helping out with this type of thing. His legs have, well, grown!)

The outstanding feature of Green Way Two-Tone Wool Shorties is a unique ribbed area between baby's legs that stretches to fit over even bulky night-time diapers, and contracts to fit trimly under day-time clothes like bodysuits. It also makes the entire cover very stretchy and easy to put on wiggly little ones. There are no seams, and the ribbed waist has a convenient tie cord - I send two because I know things like that have a way of disappearing. The leg openings come more from the front, where babies legs usually are anyway, leaving ample room in the back to fit over thick diapers without pulling down at the waist (which can cause wicking of liquid into clothing). The legs are short, ribbed bands which hug your baby's legs, giving added protection against leaks. They also look really cute with a t-shirt in warmer months!

Knit from super-soft merino wool, you can choose two of the 18 solid colors - one for the ribbed waist and legs and another main color for the body. These shorties are breathable so your baby stays cool and rash free even on the hottest summer days. And what about wetness protection? This diaper cover is truly "nightworthy" and "bulletproof" to use words from two happy customers.

As your baby wears the soaker, especially if you have a smaller rotation of diaper covers, areas that get warm, damp and have friction will "felt up" a bit. This adds to the denseness of the material and makes it more water repellent and effective. It also shrinks the rise a little, which is why I have made the rise measurement a little bigger than might seem necessary.

To care for, hand wash in lukewarm water (98F) with a wool wash like Eucolan. Allow to soak for 15-30 minutes. Squeeze water out by hand (no rubbing or wringing or you may end up with a partially felted and shrunken cover), then squeeze again rolled up in a towel. Lay flat or hang dry away from direct heat or sunlight (sunlight will actually discolor the wet yarn).

S/M Organic Wool blanket bag, OOAK

What better way to keep your infant cozy and dry than with a knit blanket bag! The idea is simple - rather than try to fit those tiny little legs into longies or pajamas you can leave them free to kick around in the sack. You still get all the wetness protection that wool has to offer. Lanolize your blanket bag the same way you would longies or a soaker and you are set for a dry bed in the morning. Or use a knit blanket bag over a soaker for super protection from wetness - perfect for the family bed.

This blanket bag is set up as a size Small/Medium. It is a size Small when you have the long ribbed section around your baby's stomach, keeping them warm and giving them a cozy sense of security. You can choose to tie the bottom or leave it open. To use as a size Medium, flip the sack around so that the drawstring opening is around your baby's waist. This makes the sack longer, leaving more kick room for longer legs and making more room for bigger diapers, too.

The blanket bag should fit a baby from birth through about 6 months, depending, of course, on how quickly their legs grow! The Small waist opening is about 10" around and the Medium opening is about 12." Both are very stretchy. The whole sleep sack is about 15" long overall.

This particular blanket bag is a one of a kind, knit from O-Wool classic organic yarn. The color is a lovely periwinkle blue.

(I apologize for the doll model - my son is now 28 pounds/30" and way beyond helping out with this type of thing. His legs have, well, grown!)

These covers have a unique ribbed area between baby's legs that stretches to fit over even bulky night-time diapers, without being too bunchy under day-time clothes like bodysuits.

Knit from super-soft merino wool, in your choice of 18 colors, these covers are breathable so your baby stays cool and rash free. Wool also absorbs nearly 40% of its weight in liquid without feeling wet and allows moisture to evaporate leaving your baby dry and happy. As well, wool does not promote bacteria growth and when dry, won't smell. This all sounds hard to believe until you try it, but I have a super-soaker little boy and his clothes rarely get more than slightly damp over night.

To extend the range of any of these sizes I recommend adding the optional leg bands -- smaller babies will fit in the next larger size sooner since the leg openings won't gape. The baby in the picture is 12.5 pounds and is wearing the size medium -- the rise offers lots of growing room and the leg holes are a little big. He still fits the small, but they are not comfortable for him with a thick night diaper. A really tight cover doesn't keep dampness in as well either.

To turn the cover into shorties you can request optional leg bands for $5/cover.

Wool can absorb 30-40% of it's weight in liquid, while keeping the rest inside. It also has natural antibacterial qualities from the lanolin.

They are knit from super-soft merino wool, in your choice of 17 colors. To choose your color, please convo the number (1-19) from the sampler image to me or include it at checkout. Numbers 11 and 12 are no longer available.

Sizing:
small (6-12 lbs) legs have 7" inseam including 2" ribbed cuff
medium (12-22 lbs) legs have 10" inseam including 2" ribbed cuff
large (20-32 lbs) slightly tapered legs have 14" inseam including 2" ribbed cuff

Request up to 2 extra inches of length on the legs for no extra charge. Longer than that is $5/2 inches. Cuffs are designed so they can be turned up. To figure out the length you need to measure the inside of baby's leg with diaper on from diaper to desired length.

I developed this soaker design after becoming frustrated with the fit and function of so many of the patterns and products available in wool diaper covers. These covers have a unique ribbed area between baby's legs that stretches to fit over even bulky night-time diapers, without being too bunchy under day-time clothes like bodysuits.

Knit from super-soft merino wool, in your choice of 18 colors, these covers are breathable so your baby stays cool and rash free. Wool also absorbs nearly 40% of its weight in liquid without feeling wet and allows moisture to evaporate leaving your baby dry and happy. As well, wool does not promote bacteria growth and when dry, won't smell. This all sounds hard to believe until you try it, but I have a super-soaker little boy and his clothes rarely get more than slightly damp over night.

This cover only needs to be washed every 2 weeks or when soiled. I generally rotate between two covers throughout a day, letting one air out while the other is on. I keep two others in reserve or drying from being washed.
To care for, hand wash in lukewarm water (98F) with a wool wash like Eucolan. Allow to soak for 15-30 minutes. Squeeze water out by hand (no rubbing or wringing or you may end up with a partially felted and shrunken cover), then squeeze again rolled up in a towel. Lay flat or hang dry away from direct heat or sunlight (sunlight will actually discolor the wet yarn).

To extend the range of any of these sizes I recommend adding the optional leg bands -- smaller babies will fit in the next larger size sooner since the leg openings won't gape. The baby in the picture is 12.5 pounds and is wearing the size medium -- the rise offers lots of growing room and the leg holes are a little big. He still fits the small, but they are not comfortable for him with a thick night diaper. A really tight cover doesn't keep dampness in as well either.

To turn the cover into shorties you can request optional leg bands for $5/cover.

The outstanding feature of Green Way Two-Tone Wool Shorties is a unique ribbed area between baby's legs that stretches to fit over even bulky night-time diapers, and contracts to fit trimly under day-time clothes like bodysuits. It also makes the entire cover very stretchy and easy to put on wiggly little ones. There are no seams, and the ribbed waist has a convenient tie cord - I send two because I know things like that have a way of disappearing. The leg openings come more from the front, where babies legs usually are anyway, leaving ample room in the back to fit over thick diapers without pulling down at the waist (which can cause wicking of liquid into clothing). The legs are short, ribbed bands which hug your baby's legs, giving added protection against leaks. They also look really cute with a t-shirt in warmer months!

Knit from super-soft merino wool, you can choose two of the 15 solid colors - one for the ribbed waist and legs and another main color for the body. These shorties are breathable so your baby stays cool and rash free even on the hottest summer days. And what about wetness protection? This diaper cover is truly "nightworthy" and "bulletproof" to use words from two happy customers.

As your baby wears the soaker, especially if you have a smaller rotation of diaper covers, areas that get warm, damp and have friction will "felt up" a bit. This adds to the denseness of the material and makes it more water repellent and effective. It also shrinks the rise a little, which is why I have made the rise measurement a little bigger than might seem necessary.
