These mittens are knit flat, to make the color work simpler. They knit up a little loose and felt to a quarter inch thick.

The rag rug is the combination of thrift, craft, recycling, and beauty. This sculpture set celebrates where art meets austerity. Each vase-like component was hand knit from salvaged fiber. For those familiar with knitting, they will notice that the pieces are knit in the round (in spirals) and the last top stitches are not bound off, but strung, and left as "live stitches." These "live stitches" and spirals are a nod to the ongoing life of homemade objects that are continually recycled: shirt to towel to quilt. Years of wear have created a pallet of muted colors: mellow pink, faded crimson, and coral. Each piece is knit tightly to stand on its own, with a hollowed core.

The rag rug is the combination of thrift, craft, recycling, and beauty. This sculpture set celebrates where art meets austerity. Each vase-like component was hand knit from salvaged fiber. For those familiar with knitting, they will notice that the pieces are knit in the round (in spirals) and the last top stitches are not bound off, but strung, and left as "live stitches." These "live stitches" and spirals are a nod to the ongoing life of homemade objects that are continually recycled: shirt to towel to quilt. Years of wear have created a pallet of muted colors: mellow pink, faded crimson, and coral. Each piece is knit tightly to stand on its own, with a hollowed core.

Measurements:
Tallest: 10.5" (27 cm) tall and 4.5" (12 cm) wide at the base.
Smallest: 6.5" (16 cm) tall and 4" (10 cm) wide at the base.

This set of five has been knit, and then felted. The texture of the hand knit stitches still comes through the fuzz of felt. The body of each cone is made from a heather gray wool. Each features details of hand dyed, merino wool in forest colors: violets with hints of teal and brown.
