Moon and Star Stained Glass with Swarovski crystal star

$350.00
Were you looking up at the night sky last month when Venus and the Moon were close? A marvelous night, I was on the phone to all my friends to quick, run outside and look at the Moon. "Where is it?" they all said. I bit my tongue and didn't say, "In the SKY, DUH!" I just said, "Look up and toward the West."

Wow, was it ever neat!

I can see how the sight would be revered by ancient civilizations. I know it's not extremely rare, but you don't see it all that often with the waxing crescent and the super bright planet (the star to most people).

This stained glass piece tries to capture a piece of that beauty and a note of whimsy in the Man in the Moon face. The Moon is crafted from some remarkable Youghiogheny ring mottle glass so that light shining through actually appears to display the craters on the moon. The sky is a Spectrum whispy midnight blue imagining those thin clouds that the Moon can sometime illuminate so wonderfully. The star (Venus is actually a planet) is a 20 mm Swarovski Lead Crystal octogon which brings dozens of tiny rainbows into your house when direct sunlight strikes it. The outer edge is an iridescent black which shimmers like oil on water in the bright sunlight and the bevel corners make further rainbows, much larger too, with direct sunlight.

Some people will look at this wonderful moon and star and marvel at the way the moon and the star are inset within the surrounding glass. There are a few "experts" who will tell you that this can't be done and that it proves the piece is plastic. Well it is definitely glass. It is modern tools and lots of practice that makes these "impossible cuts" possible. This type of inset is one of our signature styles.

This piece is approximately 16 by 16 and is created in the copper foil technique commonly called "Tiffany style" with a strong zinc frame. It has brass eyes in the upper corners and comes complete with two brass hooks and hanging chain.

Our glass is professionally packed for shipment and insured for the full value.

Enjoy it in your home for generations.

Tsuri Toro - Japanese style stained glass lantern

$110.00
I love to view the plum and cherry blossoms at this time of year. The fruit trees are in full bloom, the yard is redolent with the aroma of citrus blossoms. I put on a CD of shakuhachi flute music and drift into that meditative state not really Zen, but more so than not.

My household temple area is illuminated by one of our Tsuri-toro: a stained glass lantern inspired by the hanging temple lanterns of many Buddhist Temples.

Our Tsuri-toro is comprised of stained glass, brass hardware and a slate roof. The glass is approximately 12 inches tall and the roof is six inches square. Overall the toro is 13 inches tall and hangs from an adjustable cord which can go from a few inches to about 5 feet in length. It is made to be direct wired into a standard hanging light fixture box. For a small additional fee we can create it as a swag lantern with an integrated thumb switch and electric plug. Convo us prior to purchase if you are interested in this option and we will discuss the details with you. (Both styles are designed for standard North American wiring and not suitable in some other locations. You can convo us about your electric needs if they are different from standard North American.) The Tsuri-toro is designed for candelabra base compact fluorescent bulbs.

The Tsuri-toro is a special MADE TO ORDER piece and can be crafted in the red glass shown or in yellow, blue or green wispy glass. Please note in the comments to seller which color you would like your Tsuri-toro. These CUSTOM ORDER pieces take about two weeks to fabricate. We will convo you with details concerning your order and our work schedule. We guarantee your happiness with our Tsuri-toro and will send you pictures as soon as it is fabricated for your approval.

Your satisfaction is guaranteed, shipping is by USPS Priority Mail with full insurance. Discounted shipping on multiple Tsuri-toro when ordered at the same time.

Greek Waves frit painted fused glass plate

The three dimensional glass frit vividly evokes the spume and foam of the sea waves.

Frit painting is a process of grinding up sheet glass into various sizes of powders and using those powders on top of other sheet glass, similar to sand painting. The layers of frit and sheet glass are then kiln fired to over 1500 degrees F. Additional frits and sheet glass may be added as the patterns begin to develop. Multiple firings and often extensive finishing work on the cold glass mean that most kiln fired fused glass has been literally days in preparation.

We utilize the finest in fusible glass and grind our own frit powders.
One Thousand Intelligent Eyes - fused glass, slate and mesquite wood sculpture

$3,985.00
Since the beginning of space travel there have been almost 500 humans, a few simians and a dog or two hurled above the Earth's atmosphere and into the rarefied ether of space. What they see has been captured on film by Lieca, Zeiss, and other lenses, but can film and lens ever capture what is truly there to see? Those of us still tethered on the ground can only dream and imagine from the descriptions those few space travelers have given us.

This sculptural wall mounted piece dares to dream that the beauty of its orbs floating on the gray of slate above the larger sea of red mesquite may capture some of the wonder of the view outside a space ship window.

Hand worked native Texas mesquite is coupled with hand hewn Irish slate to provide the striking backdrop to the hand fused glass of the planetary bodies. The glass was kiln formed in our Texas studio and includes some of the dichroic glass originally developed for satellite mirrors.

The piece measures approximately 36 inches tall, 16 inches wide and 6 inches deep. It is designed to be displayed attached or hung on an opaque wall.

Because of the nature of the materials and the size and weight of the piece our shipping price is an estimate. The buyers choice of shipping company and the actual ship to address will dictate the final shipping costs. Refunds or additional charges could apply.

For this plate the red and blue glass were ground into medium frit and then sprinkled on a kiln shelf. As it was fired the glass first melted together and then drew up and away from itself to create an extremely delicate lace. This lace was then placed on top of a white sheet glass and fired for a second time to fully fuse the lace into the white plate. A final third firing was completed to give the plate its gentle curve.

Total firing time for this plate was well over 30 hours and the maximum temperatures reached were in excess of 1500 degrees Fahrenheit.

We utilize the finest in fusible glass and grind our own frit powders. Our wrought iron stands are made up the road a piece here in Texas. Everything about our work is hand made.

This art piece is signed and numbered by the artist.
