Love is the second in a series of three prints of Indian stray dogs. These prints depict dogs that I have met during my travels to India. Many majestic strays wander the streets of Pune looking for a bit of food or some cool shade. These strays embody the often difficult, but beautiful world of India. Love (or Prem) is a Hindi name. I wanted to give this nameless dog a suitable title that matched his demeanor.

Love is an original three-color handcarved color woodcut print from a limited edition numbered 6 of 15. This piece is numbered and signed in pencil. The image area is about 8.5" x 6.5". Printed on handmade acid-free Japanese printmaking paper in the traditional Japanese moku hanga style with artist grade watercolor pigments.

This print comes mounted with photo corners on acid-free mat board and packaged in an archival crystal clear resealable bag.

Bittersweet - Original Woodblock Print

Bittersweet is a five-color, four-block print done in Moku Hanga (Japanese woodblock) style using water-based pigments on handmade Japanese paper.

The print measures approximately 4"x 6" on 6" x 8" Shin Hosho paper (which is dipped and sized by hand and has a lovely subtle sparkle).

Bittersweet is an original woodblock print from a limited edition numbered 7 of 15 and is numbered and signed in pencil. It comes mounted with photo corners on black foam core in a resealable, crystal clear plastic bag.

This triptych consist of three separate prints done in moku hanga style using a total of eleven blocks (four for the first two prints and three for the last print).

Each print measures 13 1/8 x 8 1/4 inches on handmade Japanese Nishinouchi paper using hand-ground Japanese pigments.

Power of the Indian Stray Dog - handmade artist book

I created both the words and images for this artists' book. The title is a play on the poem The Power of the Dog by Rudyard Kipling. The images were drawn in India ink and watercolor. They were then scanned and printed on bond paper. The book was hand bound in covers made of 100% cotton rag paper from the Handmade Paper Institute in Pune, India. Two blue stone beads accent the tied binding. This is number 8 of 10 copies.

The Talkative Tortoise is based on an Indian fairy tale. The story tells of two ducks who hold a sturdy stick in their beaks to carry their friend the tortoise to their beautiful mountain home. The tortoise must hold on with his mouth, but he is a talkative tortoise and the ducks warn him not to speak during the journey or he will fall. The print depicts the moment in which the tortoise forgets and opens his mouth to speak.

Printed on handmade acid-free Japanese printmaking paper in the traditional Japanese moku hanga style with Akua inks.

A white line print is created from a single block of wood. Lines are cut into the block and then the flat areas are hand-colored, with each section printed one at a time, by hand using a baren. Each print is unique.
