This is a print of an original drawing. The original was done on canvas board with permanent marker.

I have participated in about 3 challenges so far and find it really helps me venture out to try things I might not have otherwise.

The week I submitted this painting, the topic was "Beauty Rains Down Upon..." The text here is: "Beauty rains down on me, healing my wounded soul". I believe creating works of art or expressing ourselves creatively can heal us and bring us joy in ways no other thing can.

Okay, I know it's not a very original title, but I've mentioned in another description that I am "title challenged". I tend to name 'em for what they are. Perhaps in the future, I'll try a little brainstorming and have a big title changing party. Until then, it's just a sketchbook swirl!

This was one of those happy accidents. I was just goofing around in my sketchbook and decided to color in the swirls. The original plan was to color the whole thing in, but I didn't get finished. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it partially colored. It's actually one of my favorite pieces.

It's blank, just waiting for you to jot down some words of encouragement to a friend who is finishing her dissertation. Or to tell your best friend how much you miss him. You could also use it to write a resignation letter to your boss, letting him know you're leaving to pursue your life long dream of making a living creating things. The options are endless.

Hanging on can describe an act of desperation - not wanting to let go of something that you feel you cannot live without (a habit, a relationship or if you're a two-year-old, a pacifier). An act of faith is holding on to something you know is right and true and will ultimately be for your greater good. Or hanging on can be an exercise in futility - keeping something that will never be good for you (the pound of M&M's you have hidden away in the pantry to eat after your family has gone to sleep).

The colorful little leaf is holding on to the tree, is it inspirational or discouraging? It can be whatever you want it to be. For me, it's just a happy leaf, content where it is and not feeling the need for change (or for shriveling up and dying).

A couple of years ago we had a winter in Missouri that seemed to last an eternity. It was cold and dark and just plain yucky. It was at that time that I started doing art projects and that is when I did this drawing.

The Hope of Spring is often what gets people through long dark winters. This would be a lovely card to send to someone who needs some cheering up, or who just would like to see some pretty flowers and beautiful sunshine all year round.

This is a set of four blank greeting cards which come in a nice blue folder with a ribbon tied around. There is a small original watercolor painting on the front of the folder. Because each folder is made by hand, the folder covers may be slightly different than the one pictured.

My dad’s cousin has done extensive research into the history of our family. He is particularly interested in the life of my great grandfather (a person who died long before I was born). The cousin is very generous with information about our family and sends updated writings when he discovers something new. One thing he sent was some writings my great grandfather had done about his hopes for his descendents. He was a religious man whose hopes and prayers were that his children and their children would know and serve Christ.

I found it to be very inspiring and decided to paint a picture of a tree with the quote next to it and send copies to some relatives. This is how Peter’s Tree evolved. I love trees and have for years, tried to draw them and paint them, but haven’t really been happy with them until I painted this one. I love the colors and now every time I look at it, it reminds me of someone I never knew but who has had an impact on my life.

This illustration was the first submission I made to the Thursday Sweet Treat. Although I want to participate every week, I don't always get a chance to. It has been a great way to spend some of my creative energy.
