Poppy Patterns evolved from a beautiful raised flower bed of multi-colored little poppies that inspired me to paint them in a series of impressionist paintings about poppies. I have not attempted to do paintings that are photographic, but more of a freely intuitive expression about the subject. This "Poppy Patterns' reproduction print has been digitized from a photograph of my award-winning watercolor painting.

Love to watch the regal peacocks who live in Longboat Key, Florida, stopping traffic as they carry on their daily business in the middle of the road. The boys are soooo elegant with their trailing plumage, while the motherly females watch over the baby chicks.

I tried to capture the elegance of the male peacock in my collaged painting, "Struttin My Stuff" with lovely rice paper and added touches of bronze metallic to enhance this effect. Starting To Fall reflects my favorite season: Autumn. I love to see the changing colors of the leaves which sometimes seems to happen almost overnight.

I have been doing leaf prints every Fall since I learned the technique. In the first step, the actual leaf or leaves are painted with Acrylic White Gesso, used to make an imprint on Watercolor paper, and left to dry. The result is a design of white leaves on white paper. In this situation we find Anonymous prone on a psychiatrist’s couch, relating just how stressed out he is, how nobody likes him, how he hates his mother, yada yada yada! He’s really kind of a talked himself into thinking he’s gone batty, but don’t tell anyone. He’s been with the shrink for hours on end, when he suddenly reaches over and uncovers a newspaper on a coffee table. The headlines of the paper say that the shrink himself is a real crack pot. The moral of this story is one of anonymous’ best quotes – “Don’t let anyone drive you crazy when you know it’s within walking distance.”

This quotation by our friend, Anonymous, has Photoshopped its way onto some of my reproduction prints of my watercolor painting entitled (you guessed it) “Crack Pot.” Imagine!

Fall Blend reflects my favorite season: Autumn. I love to see the changing colors of the leaves which sometimes seems to happen almost overnight.

I have been doing leaf prints every Fall since I learned the technique. This one, Fall Blend, measures 10 x 7 3/4 inches (251/2 x 19 3/4 mm). It was created using a mixed media layering technique in which the actual leaf is painted with white Acrylic Gesso, used to make a design of the print marks made by leaves on Watercolor paper and left to dry. The result is white leaves in a design on white paper. In the next step, watercolor is applied in whatever pattern or design the artist desires, but the Gesso acts as a resist. The result is a beautiful piece of art inspired by nature.

I originally painted this little rooster from a photo I took on the lighthouse grounds at Key West, Florida. He and his lady and brood of baby chicks fascinated me. There are many chickens as well as five-toed cats running wild in this interesting city.

Real leaves were painted with white gesso and used to imprint white Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper. The gesso dries and creates a resist for the background. Then watercolor and ink were applied to the paper over the resist to complete the painting.

"New Orleans Magnolia" is my effort to express in watercolors, the emotions these beautiful white flowers bring out in me. The towering trees in bloom with these gorgeous, creamy white blossoms are a thing of great beauty. As it was finished, the painting was misted ever so slightly with white paint which adds a bit of atmosphere.

The size of this original watercolor painting, "New Orleans Magnolia" is 10 x 8 inches painted border to border. The painting will be protected between two sheets of stiff material and inserted into a mailer for shipping.

The title, "Lily In The Morning," comes from something I learned recently, and that is that waterlilies have wide-open blooms in the morning, but the remainder of the day the blossoms are closed.

This painting was loosely inspired by hollyhock flowers. The design pattern emphasizes the lights and darks. The flowers become abstract versions of the real flowers. The dark, dark reds are a natural complement of the greens which make the leaves pop against the darkness of the flowers.

Out For A Drink is from my painting of the Florida Everglades. This family of raccoons had ventured down to the river for a drink just as we came around the bend on an airboat ride. I love watching these little bandits; they are fascinating.

This 7.25 inch (18.5 cm) x 7.6 inch (19.5 cm) painting features what I find some of the most mysterious creatures on earth: dragonflies. These are completely lovely things with wings of gossamer, busy about their day and lightly caressing each flower and leaf they touch.

In the middle of summer we were traveling through Southwest Oklahoma into Kansas, it was 106 degrees at one point. I photographed this old cottonwood standing in opposition to the searing heat, a sentinel of the plains. This amall, lovely painting shows a vignette of the scene – wide open spaces with just this beautiful old tree and a fence running around it to claim someone’s territory or to fence in their livestock. It is approximately 7.75 x 11 inches (21 x 29 mm) on 140 lb. Arches Cold Press Watercolor paper and painted with Winsor Newton professional quality watercolors.
