When Butterick says "extra easy", they aren't kidding. This dress pattern has just 7 pattern pieces, including the facings and belt holders. The description from the back of the envelope says, "Shift with shallow neckline, extended shoulders, and belt carriers. (A) Above-elbow-length sleeves. Purchased tie best. (B) Self tie belt." Doesn't get much simpler than that, or more comfortable, either.

This pattern is new in its envelope so uncut, although the envelope is torn at the bottom corner. The stated size is 12, with a bust measurement of 32" (82.3cm). Click on the pattern back photo to get their ideas of size, and yardages. (Women were smaller back then!)

This outfit makes "old-fashioned" tie-collar blouses look absolutely up to date and elegant! There are three versions shown, all of them with that retro-cool touch you'd expect from a Vogue pattern, and while all three views do show the tunic or jumper worn over a blouse, I can also see this as a sleeveless summer option. You get pattern pieces and instructions for four items: skirt, dress, blouse, and tunic or long vest.

The pattern has never been cut, and is in perfect condition, although the envelope is somewhat mangled (see photo). It is a stated size 8, but I think by today's standards it is probably more like a 6, or maybe a 4. (I've put in a scan of the back so you can look at the chart.) However, the skirt and blouse are very simple, and would be easy to alter, while the princess lines of the tunic might take a bit more skill.

This is a truly versatile pattern, making up into an unbelted a-line dress and a skirt you can wear either over the dress or with a blouse or sweater. Making the dress a bit shorter would easily convert it into a tunic. As you can see from the pattern front, it also works well belted at either the natural waist or higher, for an empire look.

The pattern is new in its envelope and is in very good condition. It is a stated size 7, but I think by today's standards it is probably more like a 3. (I've put in a scan of the back so you can look at the chart.) However, with the simplicity of the design, this would be easy to alter either up or down in size.

This pattern originally contained all sizes from 4 to 11, with more than one sheet for bodices, sleeves, etc. It has been cut for Size 5, which seems to mean Sizes 6 and 7 will be missing, but with what's left, I think you could still have all of them. What a darling dress this is, with its fitted jacket/bodice and softly pleated full skirt! I love the sheer femininity of it, and the fact that you can pair the skirt with something else. And can't you just imagine going swing dancing in this?! Fabulous, simply fabulous.

I hesitate to say "Size 12" because the 12 of then is not the 12 of today. Oddly, there is no bust measurement given, but the waist is stated as 25" and the hips as 33", which translates to a Size 5 today. That said, I know that I always bought a size smaller than I actually wore, because they seemed to run rather large. (Not in the 50's. I was just a kid then, but it was true for a long, long time.)

The envelope is a little ripped around the top, and this pattern has been used, but it appears to be all there, including the instruction sheet.

This is an elegant coat, and just in time for fall. There are three collar styles, two sleeve lengths, and two lengths for the coat itself. It has deep side slashes, and side pockets.

The size says 14, with a bust measurement of 32". That probably equates to more like an 6-8 these days. On the other hand, I know that any pattern I bought, back in the long-ago's when this was printed, needed to be a size smaller than the envelope said was right. They all ran a little big.

I LOVE this skirt. It looks to me like it would drape beautifully, and not only does it have pockets (Very Important, that), but they're unusually styled. You can make the skirt in three versions, straight, A-line, or flared.

The pattern says "Size 10", but it doesn't give a waist measurement. At least I couldn't find one anywhere.

The envelope is ripped down the sides, but is otherwise new, and uncut.

The pattern, vintage 1987, has been cut, very carefully, and everything's here. The envelope's flap is missing a strip.

If you click on the photo of the pattern envelope back, you should get an enlarged view that lets you see yardages, but even the largest little piggy takes only 3/8 yard.

Do you remember Autograph Hounds, those toys you took to school and had all your friends sign? This pattern has one, and personally, I think the fad needs to be started again. In fact, I'm considering this as a really good option for some of those 10 granddaughters of ours.

But enough of that. The pattern, Simplicity 6810, also contains a mouse and a bear, with all the funk and playfulness of the 60's fully present.

The pattern is uncut, and the instruction sheet is there, everything just as it was when it was printed, in 1966.

I love this pattern, so sweetly vintage. And ingenious, too! It looks like a one-piece romper, and it is, but the back of the trousers buttons at the waist, so your little one doesn't have to take the whole thing off to use the toilet!

The pattern has been cut, but is in good condition, and all the pieces appear to be present. It's pre printed-pattern era, so no marks, just small round holes punched in the tissue.

This classic robe definitely has both style and cozyness built right in! And while the pattern says it's for a girl, I can sure see that hooded version made up for a boy. I mean, who's more likely to walk outside in a bathrobe? (Hmmm. Given my own childhood, it might be a toss-up!)

This blouse makes me think of old movies, saddle shoes, and classic magazine ads. And a dolman sleeve is SO flattering!

The pattern isn't dated, but is very vintage--from back in the days when there wasn't any printing on the tissue, just little punched holes.

I hesitate to say "Size 14", because when this pattern was printed, that was not what we'd call a size 12 today. The bust measurement it gives is 32". That said, I know that I always bought a size smaller than I actually wore, because they seemed to run rather large. (Not in the 50's. I was just a kid then, but it was true for a long, long time.)

The envelope is a little ripped around the top, and this pattern has been used, but it appears to be all there, including the instruction sheet.

Isn't it nice when you find a pattern that just does one thing, but does that one thing really well? This pattern makes up into a pinafore dress, with or without a ruffled hem. It buttons up the back, so it's good not only for wearing over another, longer, dress in cooler weather, or for wearing as is, when it's warm.

There's no copyright date on the envelope, but the style and the fact that there's no bar code place it in the 70's for me.

Still de-stashing, even while I refill drawers with new beads!

These beads are cool, and I've used a lot of them, but still have lots left. The catalog description when I ordered them said they were "purple iris". I think of them as black, though, with a sort of rainbow finish, like spilled gasoline on pavement. (Maybe I'm crazy, but aside from environmental issues, I always thought that looked pretty, so it stands to reason I'd like these beads, lol.)

The beads are good-sized (coin in picture for reference), measuring 6mm X 16mm.

Vintage Butterick Step In Dress with Drawstring Waist, Size 12

Check out the BIG button on this step-in dress! Isn't it great? This would be easy to change into either a sheath or empire waist dress, as the bodice and skirt pieces are full-length. Just leave off the drawstring casing, or place it higher.

The pattern says Size 12, but sizes have changed over the years, and the measurements on the back of the pattern indicate it would fit today's size 4-6. This would be an easy style, in my opinion, to alter, and you could go up or down a size from there.

The pattern envelope, as you see from the photos, has a few tears, mostly on the flap, but the pattern itself has been folded carefully. It has been cut, but I assume the pieces are all there.
