I think that it's actually aluminum leaf that has the name "Dutch Metal"

However it can be used for gilding or silver leafing in projects that real silver leaf isn't required such as polymer clay projects and other surface applications.

Since this package is vintage the corners are slightly bent and worn and there are a few loose sparkles but shouldn't affect the quality of the leaves.

We've named them "Messalonskee Moppets" after the river that runs through that part of Maine.

These are made by an unknown woman that was regularly selling her homemade rag dolls.
My mother totally fell in love with them and she began a collection and would often give them to people that suitably appreciated them. I was one of those recipients.

As you can see the creator of this doll was ahead of her time. They are to me certainly collectible and have that "outsider art" charm.

Of course these are no longer meant for children and can be displayed thoughtfully singly or in an attractive grouping. They are bound to elicit comment as they have in my home for years. Yes, of course I'm keeping some for myself, you can't make me sell them all!!

They are lovingly albeit crudely hand sewn, made from bits of genuine double-knit fabric, ribbon and yarn.

"Beatrice" may be small but knows how to maximize with color and pattern.

She is small and narrow but has lots of flowers for a bold appearance. Beatrice is approximately 10 inches long by 3 inches wide at the widest part (the head)

Beatrice is is constructed with green and pink flowered fabric with red white and blue flowered double knit tube arms a light peach colored head, red yarn hair and d big green yarn eyes and is stuffed with rags.

I hope that you enjoy your one of a kind and expressive "Messalonskee Moppet"

Grey with little embroidered XXXXXX's and a red crescent moon on each side of the bow. I think It's the kind square dancers would wear.

It's clip -on and measures 5 inches wide and nearly 1 1/2 inch high.

It's a silk ridged ribbon fabric with a nice sheen and the bow is doubled.

The clip says Rust Resistant in a most elegant script. Aluminum I believe.

They aren't totally uniform which I think adds to their appeal.

Used alone as a focal or in a set, you'll love these for your design elements.

She's a tall green girl.
"Lizzy" is approximately 18 inches long by 4 inches wide at the widest part (the head)
Lizzy is constructed with dark hunter green double knit fabric with cotton flowered tube arms, yellow yarn hair and adress of slightly stained powder blue and pink quilt pattern and is stuffed with rags. She has llong floppy legs and is quite bendab;e

I hope that you enjoy your one of a kind and expressive "Messalonskee Moppet"

(25.5 cm x 20.5 cm)
Artist unknown.

They are printed on high quality glossy paper of good weight with a canvas look and texture.

All are suitable for framing.

On the back they have a slight bit of residue aged non- slip adhesive from a picture album that bleeds through in stripes slightly on some of them but in my opinion doesn't detract from the prints.

See all scans on the right to view entire assortment. These images are not square. There is a bit more to each picture since they are rectangular.

I have five more of this type of print if you're interested please convo me.

Messalonskee Moppet Vintage Outsider Art Rag Doll Candace

$20.00
Introducing on of a collection of rag dolls found by my mother at a roadside sale in Waterville, Maine in the early 80's.

Candace does what she can to overcome her plain looks. Her eye replacement operation is still evidenced however and you see a hint of sadness in her very square face.
Perhaps if you hemmed her dress it would give her the joy she deserves.

"Candace" is approximately 10 inches long by 4 inches wide at the widest part (the head)

She is constructed with light green double silk fabric with rust and black doubleknit tube arms, red yarn hair and a sixties flower print dress of blue and seafoam green with white flowers. The dress was made from a cuff of a shirt!
She is stuffed with rags.

I hope that you enjoy your one of a kind and expressive "Messalonskee Moppet"
