I took a shot of a spiral Aloe at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden; the photo wasn't so spectacular, but when I did some image processing, it came out really wild. I love the juxtaposition of a calming, soothing aloe plant that looks like it's on fire.... and the fuzzy, dreamlike quality that it has is just a happy accident, hooray for Gaussian blurs :)

I took this image of some budding yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, also known as brewer's or bread yeast) expressing a GFP-fusion protein, so they glow at certain wavelengths in the microscope. I false-colored it to give it a cool, otherworldly feeling.

I saw this beautiful cactus in bloom at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, and I knew I needed to photograph it. I'm always excited when I catch a cactus in bloom because it seems like such a rare event. The symmetry of the small peppermint candy-colored blooms was fun to capture! This little print would look great in an office or as a classy addition to a dorm room! As you can see, I put mine on my nightstand :)

I took this shot of a succulent at the UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens; the pastel aquamarine color really caught my eye. I went to the gardens right after a big rain, while the sky was still very cloudy, which led to both the strange filtered light and the jewels of water droplets caught in the succulent's leaves. I think this print would look great in a dorm room, or a peaceful addition to a bathroom wall.

I took this photo of a tiny hermit crab in a tide pool on the California coast (the same place I found "crabtacular" in one of my other listings). I tried to get him to walk on my hand, but he refused. As soon as I put him on a rock, though, he came to life and pranced around for my camera. Look at the little blue spots on his legs! And the tiny accessory shell on his shell home! He's the cutest hermit crab I ever saw.

This is a shot of a swirly red plant, taken at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum in Santa Cruz, CA. There were many species of this plant at the garden, in colors ranging from pale honeydew green to this bright, blazing red. I couldn't resist taking a shot of the intricate patterns that the leaves (flower petals?) are making as they unfurl.

I saw this beautiful cactus in bloom at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, and I knew I needed to photograph it. I'm always excited when I catch a cactus in bloom because it seems like such a rare event. The symmetry of the small peppermint candy-colored blooms was fun to capture! I think this print would look great as a classy addition to a dorm room!

I took this image of some budding yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, also known as brewer's or bread yeast) expressing a GFP-fusion protein, so they glow at certain wavelengths in the microscope. I false-colored it to give it a cool, otherworldly feeling.

I took this photo of a starfish half-covered in seaweed in a tide pool at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, on the California coast. I'm sure the starfish wasn't hiding on purpose; after careful inspection, I determined that it wasn't moving at all! I loved the color, deep maroon/purple, and the intricate designs on the starfish. I thought it made a very cooperative subject :)

This is a shot of a big patch of woolly creeping thyme, growing in my garden at my house in Oakland. When the sun hits it just right, the combination of sunlight and shadow is amazing. The sun highlights the woolly hairs on the thyme, and makes the shot hyperrealistic. I think the print would look amazing in a kitchen, especially in a place where it can get some sunlight - plants need to grow, right? :)

This is a digital print of a shot I took at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden in March 2009. It's an aloe polyphylla, also known as spiral aloe. The way the light passes through parts of the leaves just created the most incredible effect on the plant's color! I also love the repeating pattern of these plants.

This image would look great in a home or office, and brings a bright shot of color to an otherwise plain white wall!

This is a shot of a swirly red plant, taken at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum in Santa Cruz, CA. There were many species of this plant at the garden, in colors ranging from pale honeydew green to this bright, blazing red. I couldn't resist taking a shot of the intricate patterns that the leaves (flower petals?) are making as they unfurl.

I took this photo of a tiny hermit crab in a tide pool on the California coast (the same place I found "crabtacular" in one of my other listings). I tried to get him to walk on my hand, but he refused. As soon as I put him on a rock, though, he came to life and pranced around for my camera. Look at the little blue spots on his legs! And the tiny accessory shell on his shell home! He's the cutest hermit crab I ever saw.

This is an image of a rhododendron bush at the UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens. The garden has a huge Asian plants section, with dozens of rhododendron species, and this one had incredibly unique leaves. As I was taking a picture of the leaf patterns, I happened to notice a very delicate, well-formed spider web in the space between two branches, and was lucky enough to catch it in the sunlight.

This plant has such delicate leaves, with tiny hairs that catch the light. The way it swayed in the breeze, it looked like it was underwater. I captured this shot at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden, on a very hot day in April. After searching for great shots in the hot sun, I hid in a shady spot and found a stand of these plants waiting for me :)
