Boston Map and Oxalis Encaustic Wall Art

Jamie used to live in Boston and we have all of these old AAA maps of the route to Beantown. I decided to incorporate these into some encaustic paintings. This piece features a piece of my oxalis plant which is a gorgeous deep purple wood sorrel, in the same family as the common clover. The scrabble-tiled card reads "Travel" over and over just to remind us to get up and get out once in a while!

Measures 5.5 x 6.5 inches on 1/2 inch thick salvaged wood.

Encaustic painting is the use of beeswax and damar resin melted together and combined with dry pigments to create a painting medium. This paint is applied hot (not a cold paste) and manipulated with a direct heat source. This makes for a lovely layered and haunting image into which objects and photographs can be added.

We use only the finest ingredients and Jamie makes it all herself from scratch which will ensure a long lasting painting. Living with and taking care of an encaustic painting is much like any other piece of artwork-- keep it out of direct sunlight and heat. You may want to take a clean white cotton rag and buff it about once a year, if need be (that will keep it shiny). That's about it!

This board has exposed edges and is made from salvaged wood from our home renovations! It will come with hardware attached in order to hang easily. This painting is signed on the reverse.

A perfect present for the knitwit in your life! Orange yarn has been layered into this encaustic painting and really pops out against the white and pale yellows and pale blues of the paint. Proudly display your mantra-- "Knit, Purl"

I can make these in custom colors and words so just give a holler!

Measures 5.5 x 5 inches each on 1/2 inch thick salvaged pine wood. (They are slightly off size)

Encaustic painting is the use of beeswax and damar resin melted together and combined with dry pigments to create a painting medium. This paint is applied hot (not a cold paste) and manipulated with a direct heat source. This makes for a lovely layered and haunting image into which objects and photographs can be added.

We use only the finest ingredients and I make it all myself from scratch which will ensure a long lasting painting. Living with and taking care of an encaustic painting is much like any other piece of artwork-- keep it out of direct sunlight and heat. You may want to take a clean white cotton rag and buff it about once a year, if need be (that will keep it shiny). That's about it!

This board has exposed edges and is made from salvaged wood from our home renovations! It will come with hardware attached in order to hang easily. This painting is signed on the reverse.

Fun with elephant ears! This caladium leaf (also known as Elephant Ear) is encased in encaustics with robin's egg blue polka dot paper and a collection of bright red vintage buttons.

Layered encaustic painting that incorporates vintage blue striped paper with "POLA" stamped in black (from a beautiful piece of vintage paper I had stamped "Polaroid Transfer" on many years ago). Also a pressed purple violet flower that is just lovely with deep vains and yellow center. The flower coloring has faded a bit with the wax absorbing into the petal, but the remaining image is quite lovely.
