FEATHERY BLESSINGS ORNAMENT-Medium Onion

This is an ornament for to put on your holiday tree to look at or to hang on a hook or in a window, to remind you of the blessings that you receive even when you think things are the bleakest ever...

It's made from a Round Glass Ornament that's 55MM or 2.16 Inches, Athonite Style Byzantine Blend Resin Incense, and Moulted Chicken Feathers.

The Incense is from Mount Athos in Greece and is a combination of Rose, Myrrh, Lemon and Gardenia, just like the Incense burned during the Divine Liturgy in the Greek Orthodox Church.

Birds have always been messengers to and from the Heavens so that is another reason that I used feathers to make these ornaments.

The Feathers are from my Feather Babies, Pet Chickens that I have owned and loved since 2003. Each one of them taught me different things:

TOM BRUNANSKI, an Easter Egger Pullet. Her feathers are Brown and Cream splash. She was killed on 08/08/03 in a Raccoon attack.

JERRY REMY, a Black and White Leghorn mix Cockerel. His feathers are Black and White. He was rehomed on 10/26/03 and presumed died during a below zero stretch.

SLIFER THE SKY DRAGON, a Light Brahma/Leghorn mix Crowing Hen. Her feathers are an Ash Brown and Cream with stripes. I lost her to a staph infection on 08/08/07.

MISS MONEYPENNY, a Silkie/Cochin bantam mix Hen. Her feathers are a coppery orange and brown. She died as the result of a combination of a Redtail Hawk attack and Marek's Disease on 05/01/08.

OBELISK THE TORMENTOR, a Black and White Leghorn mix Hen. Her feathers are mostly black, but as she's gotten older she's gotten more white in her plumage. She's still live and kicking and is Queen of Everything.

This item is a simple yet elegant necklace, consisting of a glass leaf on a neckwire.

The neckwire is Gold Toned by Bead Gallery Elements, choker length, about 16 Inches. It has a ball and loop close.

The leaf is about 2 and a quarter inches long from BlueMoon Beads. It's a lovely Yellow, Green, and Brown so it would go with many colours.

I felt the need to make this one because of all the leaves on my back lawn...each and every one is beautiful and I wanted to share that with my Etsy companions.

This is one of the newest members of my Poppet line. She and her sister started out as Gemstone Poppets for the upcoming Pagans of Etsy Street Team Challenge, but they had something else in mind. They transformed themselves into Chakra Poppets instead.

Chakra comes from a Sanskrit word meaning "Wheel". Chakras are sort of energy centres in a person's body. They can be wheels or vortices...this is a link on Chakras, because I'm not up on them:

She's made from a Styrofoam Cone for her body and a Styrofoam Egg for her head. The forms are covered with a Cotton Quilter's Fabric. Her hands and face are black and her clothing has circles made of dots that just screamed out for sparklies in the centres. The cotton fabric for this poppet is black with white dots and rhinestones in the centres of the circles. It's made exclusively for Joann's Fabric and the name is simply Modern by M'liss Rae Hawley. Her hair is white and made of Red Heart acrylic yarn and she has a bindi over her Third Eye.

She stands a little over 9 inches tall and about 4 inches wide at her feet.

She is NOT recommended for children under 3 because of the decorations and googly eyes that could be taken off and swallowed.

She's also more of a creation to be looked at rather than played with...but she'll be a nice addition to a doll collection or on your altar.

The Hu Nab Ku glyph, a Yin/Yang-ish spiraling symbol of Balance and Harmony, represents an ancient Mayan god of creation and the centre of our Milky Way Galaxy. I used the Hu Nab Ku as the focal point of my entry in the Paganteam Challenge for September because of the Equinox being a Balance between Night and Day, Light and Dark.
Being Artisans, Parents, Partners, Spouses, Children, Caretakers, Bosses all require a balancing act.

You get both Hu Nab Ku flags. They're about 12 Inches by 9 Inches and will fit on a 1/4 Inch Dowel.

They're made of Felt, Polyester Satin Ribbon, and Poly/Cotton Blend Fuzzy Wired Ribbon in Opposing Colours of Orange and Blue done in a Mola Style. The Satin Ribbons are printed with Butterflies to accompany the Celestial Butterfly theme. The Fuzzy Ribbons contrast with the Satin Ribbons...Just like the Yin and Yang contrast and balance each other.

A Mola is a style of Reverse Applique done by the Kuna people of the San Blas Islands of Panama. It's hard work though and this way my first attempt at this artform...My StepMother is from Panama so it's sort of an homage to her also.

This was a new thing for me...It just sort of came to me......In the aisle at Michael's...But it seemed like an interesting idea and I ran with it. These are items that I would use on my Halloween/El Dia altar at home too.

The idea behind the "Altar in a Jar" is to be inconspicuous in case you’re not out of the “Broom Closet” or if you are, and you’re a cube-rat, it will remind you of your faith. Besides, it’s pretty and smells nice too, even if you don’t light the incense or candle.

Included in my "Altar in a Jar" are some Black Sand, Glass Skeleton Beads, and an Orange Votive Candle.
The Votive Candle in this one is "Candy Corn" AKA Cinnamon/Vanilla, and I would highly recommend if you're going to burn it to place it in a suitable burner.
The Jar itself is 5 Inches tall and 9 and a half Inches around.
The Glass Skeleton Beads are from a necklace making kit.

Halloween is a wonderfully magickal time of year for those of the Earth based religions. The veil between the our world and that beyond is thinner now, which is one of the reasons that we dress up as scary things...

Witch's Brew Halloween Altar in a Jar

This is a 12 Inch Diameter DreamWeb. It hangs 33 Inches from it's hanging loop to the tip of the longest feather.

It's made from a Brass Ring, Cotton Fabric, Cotton Thread, Glass, Bone and Tagua nuts, also called Vegetable Ivory.
The fabric is a very rich looking Chocolate Brown, Ivory and Jade Paisley. I fell in love with the rich of the colours and had no idea what I going to do with it...but inspiration struck because I had bought some beads when I spent a couple of days with my sister-in-law and we went rock shopping. They were perfect!!!

Paisley fabric was named for a city in Scotland and I know a girl named Paisley...
According to Wiki, Paisley is a cross between a floral spray and a cypress tree. It's also called a Persian Pickle, which gave me a chuckle...Because the big kidney shapes really DO look like baby Gherkins...

Pink Butterflies Sweatshirt-OOAK

This item is a vintage, upcycled, French Terry Sweatshirt.

It has a ribbed Boatneck collar, and long sleeves ending with ribbed cuffs. It's a lovely rose colour with silver painting and rose and purple butterfly appliques.

There's a total of 10 Butterflies front and back of varying sizes. The leaves are in the front and the writing is on the back.

The verse states: Butterflies are God's Flowers on the Wing.

It's a size Medium, by Moda International, and is 100% cotton.

I made this item when fabric painting was in way back in the 80's. The butterflies were ironed on and then the edges were painted with silver fabric paint. The writing and the sprigs of leaves are all done free hand by me.

There is a small, less than a quarter inch, tear in the fabric near the neckline.

It hangs approximately 25 Inches from the hanging loop to the tip of the longest feather.

The fabric has a Butter Yellow background with Sepia coloured branches and Persimmon coloured maple leaves. This was such a lovely piece of cloth that I couldn't leave it behind.

The scrapbooking buttons are a leafless tree, Pumpkins and "Indian" corn.

If you see a recurring theme here, it's because Fall in New England just RULES!!! It's sad to see the leaves coming down and the birds flying away, but the breathtaking colours more than make up for it.

The fabric for this DreamWeb is an abstract leaf pattern. The colours are Rust, Tan, and Hunter green, while the Scrapbooking buttons are Rust, Camel, Olive, Chocolate, and Burgundy Maple style leaves.

This one makes me wish I had some good oldfashioned maple sugar candy right now.

Flaming Shades of Fall

You've found an EAST team Harvest Treasure Hunt Treasure! Look EAST and harvest the fruits of our labor! This one has the wonderful colours of leaves that you can rake up into a huge pile, then jump into. These will be going into my compost heap to give something to my garden next spring.

This DreamWeb is made from a 10 Inch Brass Ring, Cotton Fabric, Cotton Thread, Scrapbooking Buttons, Pony Beads and Feathers: Dyed Turkey and Natural "French Partridge".

It's approximately 25 Inches long from the hanging loop to the tip of the longest feather.

The fabric on this one's darker than the other two, but I still liked it and had to get it. These seem more like the colours later in the season: Chocolate, Olive and Burgundy.

The "French Partridge" feathers belonged to my Aunt's collection of Dreamcatcher making supplies that she bought from Jay's Indian Store in AZ.

The name of this one is from a poem I just found:

I love to garden and I made this one in honour of a dear neighbour who was a crackerjack gardener as well as a great friend, and I lost him a couple of years back now.

This is an 8 inch DreamWeb. It's made from a Brass Ring, Cotton Quilting Fabric, Glass Lampwork Beads, Metal Painted Beads, Scrapbooking Buttons, Cotton Craft Thread and Dyed Turkey Feathers.

Each DreamWeb comes with it's name and the story of the Native American legend of the DreamCatcher. I don't call my creations DreamCatchers because I am not a Native American and also because I don't use hides like a true DreamCatcher would be made from. I like the fabrics because there's so mant to choose from.

The fabric is a vegetable print with Summer Squash, Onions, Tomatoes and Broccoli, and all the beading goes along with the theme. There's Bell Peppers, in Green, Yellow and Red, a lovely Purple Eggplant, some ears of Corn, and some Carrots.

The price is adjusted according to the types of beads, how long the item takes to make, the size of the hoop...sometimes, I find a fabric I just gotta have and I may pay a bit more, but I try not to pass too much of that on to you...and it most certainly works the other way too...
