Very primitive or ethnic looking necklace that will look beautiful against any skin tone!

The focal pendant is hand formed (by me) from sterling silver wire and hammered for texture. The silver has been oxidized to achieve more of an antiqued look and slightly polished. Inside the loop I placed rough and naturally shaped Beryl. The necklace is threaded with black leather cord and fastens with a lobster clasp and extension chain, which I've finished off with a Labradorite polished rondelle.

All metal used is sterling silver. The total length (including clasp and extension chain) is adjustable from 16 to 18 inches (41 to 46 cm). The total length of the pendant including bail is just over 2 inches long (~58 mm).

Beryl is often unknown to the general public, even the gemstone-buying public. However, it is one of the most important gem minerals. Beryl is colorless in pure form; it is the many different impurities that give beryl its varied coloration. Without these splendid color varieties, Beryl would be a rather ordinary gemstone with only average fire and brilliance. Emerald is the green variety and Aquamarine is the blue variety of Beryl. Other colors of Beryl are also used as gemstones but are not as well known. The greenish-yellow variety is called Heliodor, the pink variety is called Morganite and the colorless variety is called Goshenite.

This necklace is an entry in the Mad Scientists of Etsy (MSOE) monthly challenge "Microbiology". My master thesis project was about S. pneumoniae (Streptococcus pneumoniae), so I felt that this could be a perfect opportunity to show them in artistic way :)

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a normal inhabitant of the human upper respiratory tract. S. pneumoniae can cause pneumonia, as well as infections in other parts of the body such as in the bloodstream (bacteremia), lining of the brain and spinal cord (meningitis), bones (osteomyelitis), joints (arthritis), ears (otitis media) and sinuses (sinusitis). Usually, they are seen as pairs of cocci (spherical or spheroid shape), but they may also occur singly and in short chains. The primary virulence factor (or in other words the ability of a microbe to cause disease) of pneumococci is their polysaccharide capsule (which can be seen as a "halo" around the cells on the last pic). It is non-toxic but helps bacteria to evade the host immune cells.

This is the first tutorial in my series of up and coming tutorials for the wire jewelry artists. With this tutorial you will learn how to make my version of classical Tree of Life pendant using wire and various gems and beads. No soldering required! Although it is described as an intermediate project, the tutorial contains so much detail that any level of enthusiast is able to make the piece.

Material List:
* 10 inches (~ 26 cm) 18 ga dead soft round wire
* 10 feet (~ 3 m ) 28 ga dead soft round wire
* 4-6 mm gem stone chips or beads in leaf colour

Tool List:
* Chain nose pliers
* Wire cutters
* Flat nose pliers
* Round mandrel or pen

Optional: Steel block or Anvil and Hammer, Liver-of-Sulfur or Eggs (to oxidize finished pendant)

Exquisite Rock Crystal Clear Quartz step faceted spiral briolettes are meticulously wrapped in sterling silver wire and suspended from diamond-cut leverback earwires. All metal used is sterling silver. The silver has been oxidized to enhance the details and to achieve more of a mysterious antiqued look. The total length including earwires is just under 1 ½ inches long (~ 34 mm). The briolettes measure 16x10 mm.

I've used leverbacks for these, but can change them for my handmade long-stemmed hooks if preferred.

A gorgeous, summery combination of colors that will look beautiful against any skin tone...

The focal pendant is totally made from scratch using various gauges of solid copper wire. The tree is sculptured with copper wire and covered with A grade Peridot chips. The necklace is threaded with black leather cord and fastens with a lobster clasp and extension chain, which I've finished off with a Peridot rondelle.

All metal used is solid 100% copper. All wire used is Tarnish Resistant Copper. The total length (including clasp and extension chain) is adjustable from 17 to 18 ½ inches (43 to 47 cm). The total length of the pendant including bail is just over 1 ½ inches long (~50 mm).
