Dewdrop Baby Blanket (Knitting Pattern)

$5.00
This blanket may be made in two sizes to fit your situation. The instructions are given for a small or “half” sized blanket that is appropriate for a car seat or bassinet, with instructions for a “full” sized blanket in parentheses. These two sizes are approximately 20in by 28in (50cm by 70cm) and 30in by 40in (75cm by 100cm). The small size blanket requires approximately 400yd/365m, and the large size blanket requires approximately 800yd/730m of worsted-weight yarn at the given gauge.

The stitch pattern for this blanket is an old eyelet lace, called “Dewdrop Stitch” by Barbara Walker. Babies love having small holes to peek and/or poke their fingers through. This pattern runs a lower risk of “pulling” a strand out than most traditional laces. In addition, it is easy to work and memorize, with only two rows out of the eight that have yarnovers and decreases.

Sizes: 20X28in or 30X40in
Gauge: 20 stitches by 34 rows to 4in (10cm) in Dewdrop Stitch

Materials:
400 (800) yds worsted-weight yarn
US8 (5.0mm) needles
2 stitch markers
tapestry needle

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. Please note that this listing is for the knitting pattern for the blanket.

Valerie's Miracle Scarf (knitting pattern)

$5.00
Valerie, Max’s wife in The Princess Bride, has a rough job. She never knows when Max is going to want to whip up some weird miracle potion or some such, and so she’s constantly trying to come up with functional ways to arrange the shopping lists.

This scarf might be one. Included on the scarf are all the ingredients needed for the Miracle Pill (including frog dust and holocaust mud, the only two specifically identified in the book version of TPB) that Max and Valerie make to bring Westley back from his mostly dead state—many of which Inigo and Fezzik had to go find in the few short hours before the wedding.

This is also known as a “sampler” scarf. It has a dozen different blocks, each separated with seed stitch. The knitter will get some experience with simple eyelet and lace stitches, knit/purl motifs and patterns, and textural patterns involving slipped stitches, bobbles, etc. Techniques will be explained each time they are introduced—making this an excellent project for knitters looking for something more interesting than a one-stitch scarf. You’re welcome to mix and match the squares if you like—just don’t forget to include true love and the chocolate coating!

Materials needed:
325yd / 300m worsted or aran weight yarn plus 1 set size US 8 (5.0mm) needles or size required to make gauge

OR 425yd / 388m sport weight yarn plus 1 set size US 4 (3.5mm) needles or size required to make gauge

AND Tapestry needle

Finished sizes: Approx. 6in by 60in (15cm by 150cm) for worsted weight; 4in by 42in for sportweight.

Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch for worsted weight.

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through.
Sadz Resama Bega - Sari Silk Bag (Knitting Pattern)

$5.00
Sadz Resama Bega uses a dense stitch pattern knit in the round to create a tote bag out of recycled sari silk that will stand up to normal wear without needing a lining.

The inspiration for this bag came from some very yummy recycled sari silk found on eBay. Unfortunately, the silk is very fuzzy, shifts colors suddenly, and has varying weights – so can be difficult to work into items that are picky about pattern and gauge. The stitch used for the tote is very dense, so it has diminished need for lining to prevent stretching or stuff from poking out. At the same time, the slipped stitches form a pleasing hint of pattern among the strong color shifts of the yarn. Simple hemming at the top and a basic seam at the bottom, plus the use of the gauge swatch to make an inside pocket, mean you don’t have to spend a lot of time on finishing. At 8in wide by 10in tall, the bag is roomy enough for most going out uses – or to carry small knitting projects!

Materials needed:
- Approx 9oz (225yds) [255 grams (205m)] Recycled Sari Silk
- US 6 [4mm] needles, circular (16”), plus one more US 6 [4mm] circular needle (length not important) *or size needed to obtain gauge*
- Purse Handles (set of 2); black plastic trapezoidal; 4” on short side by 6” on long side
- Stitch marker
- DMC 355 embroidery floss (or color to match your yarn; this is for working finishing sewing and should be largely unseen on the outside)
- Darning/yarn needle
- Seaming pins

This pattern was originally available via Black Purl Magazine. It has been radically reworked and is now available in my store as a PDF.

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. Please note that this listing is for the knitting pattern for the bag.

Jayne Hat (Knitting Pattern)

$5.00
Joss Whedon fans, show off your true natures by knitting and wearing the most famous piece of knitting from the short-lived but excellent series "Firefly."

Of course, it is modeled on the hat that Ma Cobb sends to Jayne in the episode The Message. There is much debate in the ‘verse over proper colors - particularly whether the earflaps should be red or orange. While popular opinion seems to have come down somewhere in the middle, I’ve been informed by someone who knows someone who asked the costumer’s assistant who knit the thing that there was only one hat, and Adam Baldwin kept it after filming wrapped. Go figure.

The basic idea is that this hat should LOOK homemade, and possibly poorly homemade at that - and so it’s a great project for a beginning knitter OR an advanced one who wants to knit while watching Firefly and/or Serenity on DVD.

The hat would also look shiny in other variations of colors; it takes less than half a skein of each of the three colors when using Lamb's Pride Bulky.

Sizes: Adult S/M (circumference 18.5in/46.5cm) [M/L (circumference 21in/53cm)]

Gauge: 12stitches and 18 rows to 4in (10cm) in stockinette stitch in the round.

Materials:
- 3 skeins Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky (85% wool; 15% mohair) [125yd/114.3m to 100g/3.5oz] - one skein each of Red Baron (C1), Rust (C2), and Sunburst Gold (C3) (or three colors of your choosing) - pattern will use approx 1/3rd skein of each color OR 3 skeins worsted, heavy worsted, or bulky weight wool, preferably with some “fuzz”
- US 11 (8mm) needles (or to make gauge); whatever trick you use for circular knitting
- Stitch markers; 1 of one color plus 7 of another (or one that is obviously for the beginning of the row, plus 7 additional)
- Crochet hook (size not critical)
- Pompom maker, at least 3in (7.5cm) size
- Yarn needle

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. Please note that this listing is for the knitting pattern for the hat.

The strap is adjustable; mods suggested by testers exist (see projects in Ravelry). A joy to knit - both because of the yarn and the pattern - and looks great either felted or unfelted and with a lining.

Skills needed: Cabling, cable cast-on, knitting in the round, three-needle bindoff, I-cord, felting.

Materials:
1 skein Malabrigo Yarn Merino Worsted (100% wool) OR 200-220yds worsted weight wool suitable for felting
1 set US9 (5.5mm) 16-20" circular needles AND 1 US10 (6.0mm) needle for the bindoff
1 cable needle
1 yarn needle

Size: 8in by 6in (20cm by 15cm) plus strap

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through.
Snow in Summer Wrap (Knitting Pattern)

$5.00
This lovely summer scarf is great at warding off both overzealous air-conditioning and those cool breezes that occasionally rise in the summer months. Knit out of cotton with a snowflake (or is it flowers?) eyelet motif, the scarf/stole adds nice weight around your shoulders without the heat retention of a wooly garment.

2nd Time Cotton is spun from recycled cotton from the “fiber industry”, with enough acrylic content to make it smoother on the hands and in the washing machine.

Likewise, this scarf can be recycled—fold it lengthways when the weather gets cold to make a nice warm-climate “winter” accessory. The basic size is 10inches wide by 50 inches long.

The scarf uses almost exactly two skeins of the 2nd Time Cotton (about 360yds of worsted weight yarn). If you wish to lengthen the scarf you will need another skein. Additionally, you can add width to the scarf in 3.5in (9cm) increments by increasing the number of stitch repeats worked widthwise. To make a 15in (38cm) wide stole you will need approximately 500yd (460m) of worsted-weight yarn.

Sizes: 10in by 50in for scarf; 15in by 60in for wrap

Materials:
360-500yd worsted-weight yarn
US8 (5mm) needles
Yarn needle

Gauge: 16 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in Flower Eyelet stitch/approx. equal to stockinette

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through.
Comfy Cape (Knitting Pattern)

$5.00
Shawls and capes are such comfort clothes, with their gentle drape and ease of both wear and creation. However, many shawls are created in a triangle shape… which for those of us with (ahem) derrières isn’t the most flattering of looks. Who wants an arrow pointing right at their largest body part?

This cape/shawl was designed to have a simple silhouette and construction while also allowing for a gentle curve around the back. This is a nearly infinitely customizable pattern: multiple options exist for closures, and the more adventurous knitter is encouraged to play with stitch patterns and lace borders in the main stockinette sections.

Skills needed: Knit, purl, K2tog (knit two together), SSK (slip two, then knit them together), YO (yarn over). Cape has alternating garter and stockinette stitch sections; more advanced knitters are encouraged to spice things up with additional patterns if desired.

Size: (One size given) 24in (60cm) neck hem, 77in (192.5cm) waist hem, 16in (40cm) height

Gauge: 13 stitches and 18 rows to make a 4in (10cm) square in stockinette stitch.

Materials:
- 7 skeins Knit One Crochet Too Tartelette (50% cotton, 40% Tactel nylon, 10%nylon) Color 209 Sorbet[50g/1.75oz to 75yd/68m] OR 525yds/480m worsted weight yarn, such as a ribbon yarn.
- 1 set US9 (5.5mm) 24-36in circular needles, OR size needed to match gauge.
- 10 stitch markers
- Closures as desired (see pattern for suggestions)
- Tapestry needle

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through.
Peaks Childs Scarf and Hat Set (Knitting Pattern)

$5.00
The idea behind this very cute child’s hat and scarf set was simple: create something with bold lines that a knitter would enjoy making AND that a kid would enjoy wearing. Simple in idea, but not so simple in execution!

The finished design uses a strong reversible diagonal rib to keep the knitting and the scarf/hat interesting. A keyhole in the scarf keeps it from falling off or dragging on the ground during play. The very gradual decreases in the hat give it an elfin look that is cute either stood up on end or flopped over. Best of all, the stretchiness of the overall pattern means that this combo will last several seasons by growing with the child.

Sizing: 3mo-2yr, 2-4yr, 4-6yr

Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inchesin stockinette stitch

Materials:
200-220 yds worsted weight yarn
US7 (4.5mm) needles, including either circulars or double-points for the hat
Yarn needle

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through.

They are simple in construction but carry a lot of wow! factor. They allow you to play with a stitch, yarn, or color that you might not pick for a sweater but still love. And to top it all off, they’re useful! Good Day Sunshine will brighten your day while knitting it and while carrying it. At 11 inches square by 2 inches deep, it’s a good size for toodling around town, without being so large that it’s unwieldy.

Fans of cabling, here’s a new challenge for you: this tote IS cabled, but not in a traditional roping pattern. Instead, the cables on the sides cross one knit stitch with three purls, forming sunburst checks. Just for a fun contrast, the strap is a super-traditional woven braid. This is a great project to practice cabling without a needle!

Finished size: Approx. 11in square by 2in deep (27.5cm square by 5cm deep)

Materials: 350-400yds worsted weight yarn, US 8 (4.5mm) needles, cable needle, yarn needle, materials for lining.

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. Please note that this listing is for the knitting pattern for the tote bag.

The vest is particularly designed to show off handpainted yarns without worrying about pooling. Garment is knit flat to help with avoiding pooling differences at the neckline. Ribbing at the armholes and neck is picked up after seaming.

This cute topper for baby uses just 1 skein of Stitchjones Grand Designs Handpainted Worsted (shown in the I Want Candy colorway). It would also look great in other handpaints - or let the baby shine through by knitting it up in any standard worsted-weight yarn!

Sizing: baby sizes 0-6mos (6-12mos).

Gauge: 17 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inchesin stockinette stitch

Materials:
175-220yds worsted weight yarn
US7 (4.5mm) needles, including double points or circulars for picked up stitches in the armholes
One stitch marker
Stitch holder or waste yarn
Yarn needle

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. It is constructed from the center out to points in pattern for a polished, professional look. The relatively simple stitch pattern is balanced by the slightly advanced construction techniques to make a project that is appropriate for intermediate through advanced knitters.

Pattern will be sent electronically in PDF format to your email after payment clears.

The smiles are for her joyous spirit; the diamonds for her brilliance; the hearts for her boundless love.

Also designed in partnership with Brooklyn Handspun, whose lovely hand-dyed sock-weight yarn makes this a pleasure to knit AND wear.

Stitches used: Knit, Purl, Slip, K2tog, SSK, SK2P (slip, K2tog, pass slipped stitch over). Stitch instructions are charted and written out line-by-line, with a photo to show the stitch life-sized.

The edging is scalloped by dint of blocking, not special edge stitches.

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. They have no control over what they get dressed in – and so they’re stuck with duckies or puppies. All they can do to show their true colors is to yell (which they do well)! Help support the inner punk in your little one by knitting a skullcap complete with a faux fur fauxhawk.

The inspiration for this hat came on a bus trip across campus. A young man in front of me had the most amazingly colored, fuzzy Mohawk. I was not the only one staring, though I may have been the only one trying to derive a hat from his head. Then I looked down at my newborn, and it hit me – while I could never in a million years get my attorney husband to wear a hat like that, my child wouldn’t have a choice!

Note: Hat is worked flat, then grafted along the top and seamed down the side.

Sizing: Preemie 0-3mo, 3-6mo, 6-24mo to correspond with head circumference 10 11, 13, 15in (25 27.5, 32.5, 37.5cm) Shown in size 3-6mo (green) and 6-24mo (blue).

Materials:
- [MC] 1 skein Plymouth Yarn Jeannee (51% cotton, 49% acrylic) Colorway: 0007 (111yd/101m per 50g skein)
- [CC] 1 skein Lion Brand Fun Fur (100% polyester) Colorway: Sapphire (64yd/59m per 50g skein) OR 1 skein Lion Brand Fun Fur Prints (100% polyester) Colorway: Citrus (57yd/52m per 50g skein)

- OR 50 [50, 75, 110]yd (45 [45, 68, 100]m) worsted-weight washable yarn plus 25 [30, 40, 50]yd (23 [27, 36, 45]m) eyelash or fur novelty yarn.

- US 8 (5.0mm) needles
- Yarn needle

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. You can do her one better by using a milk/cotton or pure milk yarn for your bathing accoutrements. Milk fiber is soft, silky, has the same pH as human skin, and is naturally antibiotic.

This bath set consists of a quick and fun soap sack and washcloth. The stitch is an adaptation of the Roman Stripe - Cleopatra did love her Roman men! - made to be reversible for the washcloth but not for the soap sack. Instructions are given for the sack to be knit either in the round or flat. This set would make a great gift, but remember to keep one for yourself!

Yarn weight: DK / 8 ply (11 wpi)
Gauge: 21 stitches and 33 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Needle size: US 5 / 3.75 mm
Yardage: 80 - 120 yards

Inspired by the eXtreme Spinning July 2009 spin-along club selection - 100% milk fiber. Is this a wrap? A cowl? A capelet? A shrug? The options are numerous, the lace is good for beginners, and the results are fit for a princess or a bride. It’s Inconceivable!

Why else is this Inconceivable!?

- It’s perfect for a pleasure cruise at night through eel (or shark) infested waters (or for curling up with a good book or movie)…
- It looks good on both sides, which is inconceivable! in a wrap…
- The wrap can be worn at least six different ways, depending on how you choose to lace it with ribbon through the border…
- It is inspired by the embroidered pattern of Vizzini’s coat…
- The original yarn is a golden green, also inspired by Vizzini’s coat…
- TPB is my all time favorite movie, and I’ve been dreaming for years of designing a wrap fit for Buttercup…
- And finally, you’ll keep using this wrap, even if it doesn’t mean what everyone else thinks it should mean!

Yarn weight: Lace / 2 ply
Gauge: 27 stitches and 42 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Needle size: US 4 / 3.5 mm
Yardage: 850 - 1000 yards
Size: Approx. 20in by 64in (50cm by 160cm)

Inconceivable! was designed as a Phat Fiber Knit-along in Ravelry for the summer of 2009.
Patchwork Tote (Pattern)

$5.00
Everybody needs a nice roomy tote to carry around projects, patterns, supplies, and the odd snack. Felted totes are particularly appealing, as they use all natural materials and are solid enough not to need a lining.

Unfortunately, creating a large tote in one piece has drawbacks - particularly in the summer months when it's just way too hot to carry around a large project. If you want to incorporate colorwork, you've got to organize all those skeins at once. And it's difficult to feel like you're making any progress until the very end.

This bag solves those problems. Since each square is knit individually and seamed together at the very end (before felting), you'll only need to carry one skein of yarn at a time. Each time you finish a square you'll feel like you've accomplished something - and you can leave the finished squares at home until ready to block and sew.

Materials needed are five skeins of coordinating worsted-weight wool (I suggest Patons Classic Merino Wool), US 9 (5.5mm) needles, US I-9 (5.5mm) crochet hook, a yarn needle, and a washing machine (or your favorite felting method). Skills are basic; stockinette and garter stitch, mattress stitch for the seaming; felting.

You are the master of your destiny with this tote - pick your favorite colors, maybe even throw in some fancy stitchwork to give it extra texture. All I ask is that you reference my original pattern if you post photos/modifications.

The Harris Tweed Stitch is one such. It is easy to memorize, reversible, and results in a fabulous three-dimensional texture that will please Mom if not baby. This pattern has special meaning for me, since Harris is the middle name of both my son and his godfather.

This blanket may be made in two sizes and two weights of yarn to fit your situation. The instructions are given for a small or “half” sized blanket using worsted weight yarn, with instructions for small bulky weight and “full” sized blankets in both weights in parentheses. These two sizes are approximately 20in by 28in (50cm by 70cm) and 30in by 40in (75cm by 100cm).

Yardage needed:
Worsted half: 500yds
Worsted full: 1000yds
Bulky half: 410yds
Bulky full: 875yds

Needles: US8/5.0mm (worsted version) OR US10/6.0mm (bulky version) or to make gauge.

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. Please note that this listing is for the knitting pattern for the blanket.

And what if the baby is a boy, when “lace” may seem a bit girlish? This pattern uses a simple border and ingenious eyelet non-lace to create a blanket with interest for knitter, baby, and mom. What a great combination!

Sizes: 20X28in or 30X40in
Gauge: 20 stitches and 34 rows = 4 inches in pattern

Materials:
500 - 1000 yd worsted weight yarn (sample shown in Knit One Crochet Too 2nd Time Cotton)
US 8 (5.0mm) needles
2 stitch markers
Yarn needle

Note: The instructions are given for a small or “half” sized blanket that is appropriate for a car seat or bassinet, with instructions for a “full” sized blanket in brackets. Sample shown is the small size.

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through.

$5.00
This cowl was inspired by the need for a simple, lightweight garment to keep the chill off while on vacation in the fall at the beach. The stitch pattern echoes the foam-flecked waves of the Atlantic, and the yarn used includes a small amount of chitin, made from the exoskeletons of small invertebrates like shrimp and crabs. The pattern is simple enough to take anywhere, but looks complex enough to impress your friends. It is knit in the round with a rippled lace pattern that is completed in two rounds.

This is a great project for an odd skein of sock yarn—or any other lightweight fingering yarn you may have lying around. Whether you keep one for yourself, or knit several for gifts, this is a good stashbusting project for any time of year!

Sizing:
One size fits most. Cowl is blocked to 19in circumference by 18in long (47.5cm by 45cm). See p. 2 for larger widths.

Materials:
- 1 skein SWTC TOFUtsies (50% Superwash wool, 25% Soysilk fibers, 22.5% Cotton, 2.5% Chitin) Colorway: 19 (425m/464yd per 100g/3.53oz skein) OR 300yd (275m) fingering or sockweight yarn.
- US 4 (3.5mm) 16in circular needles
- 1 stitch marker
- Yarn needle

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. Also, cute photos!

In the summer, particularly in the American South, it is (to paraphrase Robin Williams) hot. Darned hot. But who’s to tell a little girl that she can’t run around in the muggy, buggy, sunny afternoon? And further, that she can’t do it while wearing something pretty and pink?

This skirt was born of a desire to have a workhorse garment that was highly washable, durable, not expensive to make, and simple to knit. It’s the kind of thing you won’t feel bad about knitting every year after the annual growth spurt. The natural striping of the yarn means you don’t need much in the way of a stitch pattern – just the little detail of garter stitch pinstripes that “melt” into a picot bindoff. It’s like a popsicle and a skirt at the same time – the perfect summer combo!”

Difficulty level: Intermediate

Sizes: Girl 2 (4, 6, 8)
Waist circumference (adjustable with elastic): 18 (20, 22, 24)” 48 (53, 58, 63) cm
Length: 8 (10, 12, 14)” 20 (25, 30, 35) cm

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. When I go shopping, I try to use canvas bags to cut down on the number of those cheap plastic bags that I accumulate. But still, I have an ever expanding bag of bags in my pantry. Every so often we foist off these bags on friends and family that have dogs but this year I decided to reduce, reuse, and recycle those bags into a new grocery bag.

This pattern was originally available via MagKnits. It has been radically reworked and is now available in my store as a PDF.

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through. The twisted stockinette stitch gives both visual and knitting interest, and makes the bag a bit tighter to boot.

Finished dimensions: 6" wide by 4.5" tall by 0.5" thick, with a 35" strap (9cm by 6cm by 1.5cm, 88cm strap)

Gauge: 18sts by 26rows to 4" (10cm) in twisted stockinette pattern (RS: Ktbl; WS: P)

Materials:
- 1 skein Lion Brand Incredible (100% Nylon), Blue Shades colorway. (1.75oz/50g to 110yd/100m)
- US 8 (4.5mm) needles, including either two double-pointed or one circular for I-cording
- Darning needle
- 7" by 9" (18cm by 23cm) piece of lining material (I used part of a cotton fat quarter, because I wanted some stiffness; you could also use a silkier material)
- Coordinating thread to the lining
- Sewing pins
- Sewing machine
- Thread needle

Pattern directions are in PDF format and will be emailed to you when your PayPal payment goes through.
