River of Gold Dichroic Glass Cabochon

$26.00
This dichroic glass cabochon is 1 5/8" long x 1 1/2" wide (4.2cm x 3.85cm). Made with dichroic glass and fired in my home studio, this glass cabochon has been properly kiln-fired and annealed for superior strength and durability.

The predominant colors are copper, bronze and gold with tributaries of blue and green. The back is black.

This cabochon can be used with bead embroidery, beadweaving or silverworking techniques or a silver plated bail can be attached so that it can be worn as a pendant.

If you would like a silver plated bail attached, please state this through a convo to me before placing the order. The price will be increased by $2.00 to cover the cost of the bail and it will take one extra day for the process.

Dichroic glass pieces are very difficult to photograph because of the reflective properties of the glass. I have done my best to portray them as they really look, but please remember that different monitors display colors differently.

The glass beads are matte rainbow in browns, greens and blues and have a metallic look.

The bracelet will best fit a 5 3/4" to 6 1/2" wrist, but it can be lengthened by 1-1/2" if needed. You will need to convo me if you want it lengthened. There will be an additional charge of $8 for any adjustment.

Netting, which dates back to well before the Christian era, is the stitch with the longest history. Lacy and soft, netting has lots of open spaces. You can see the diamond pattern on the backside of the bracelet.

To the netted base, I added over 200 6mm Swarovski bicone crystal beads in various colors of blue giving it lots of flash and sparkle - sure to get attention is this day and age. The closure is a new and modern 18" Swarovski Rivoli crystal enclosed in a peyote stitched bail.

This bracelet will fit a smaller wrist from 5 1/2 to 6" (14-15.3cm) in size.

The base has three rows of size 11 Czech seed beads, then four rows of mixture of seed beads, faceted fire polished beads and crystals in a mixture of purples and golds.

A second layer of beads was added over the four rows of mixed beads in a zigzag pattern. The clasp was created with the same beads as the bracelet with a large Swarovski crystal in the center.

The inspiration for this bracelet came from Marcia DeCoster's book, Beaded Opulence.

Dichroic glass is a new venture for me and while I did not make these cabochons, I am learning how to fuse glass and hope to make some of my own very soon. So it's a new horizon for me.

The necklace is 16" long. The bold focal is 3"x3" and the fringe hangs down another 1 3/4". The back of the pendant is covered with soft blue ultrasuede. The chain is right angle weave and the clasp is a peyote stitched toggle.

Seaside Rendevous - A Beachcombing Necklace

We hit many beaches in our travels and some of the most beautiful were in Florida. In our beachcombing adventures, we collected many treasures and some of those found treasures were used in this necklace.

I cut and shaped several shells into cabochons and made beaded bezels around each one. I have not been able to identify the center cabochon - guesses have been calcified coral or sponge. The base of the necklace uses peyote and netting stitches to which the other shell beads were added. I also added beaded starfish and several different kinds of fringe using seed beads and saltwater pearls as well as glass pearls and mother of pearl beads.

Made with dichroic glass and fired in my home studio, this glass cabochon has been properly kiln-fired and annealed for superior strength and durability.

The predominant colors are shades of blue and gold. The back is black.

This cabochon can be used with bead embroidery or beadweaving techniques or a silver plated bail can be attached so that it can be worn as a pendant.

Made with dichroic glass and fired in my home studio, this cabochon has been properly kiln-fired and annealed for superior strength and durability.

The predominant colors are blues, purples and golds and the top layer gives the cab a shimmering rainbow effect. As it was created, it took on a life of it's own and began morphing into something I hadn't planned. No longer was it humorous, so I gave up on entering it into the challenge.

It eventually settled into the role of a reversible medallion - similar on each side, yet different. The necklace is 18" long and the medallion is 2" in diameter.

The fabric is lined with pellen and is glued to a brass cuff. The cuff is lined with ultrasuede which was glued to the underside of the cuff. The fabric and ultrasuede have both been scotchguarded to help prevent staining. Glass triangle beads line the outside of the cuff where the ultrasuede and fabric are sewn together.

The 1 3/4" vintage button is enclosed in a peyote stitched beaded bezel using Japanese size 11 and size 15 seed beads and is securely attached to the top of the cuff.

This cuff easily slips onto the wrist and is adjustable to fit a 6 - 10" wrist.

Feeling Ziggish Polymer Clay Cabochon

I created it by using the lizard tail technique which I learned from Julie Picarello (one of my polymer clay heroes.) But of course, I didn't make a lizard tail. I turned it into a cabochon.

The cab is 2 1/4" long x 1 5/8" wide (5.7cm x 4.2cm) and is between 1/8 and 1/4" (about 4mm) thick. The main colors are turquoise and purple with some slashes of lime green and splashes of yellow. The back is purple.

The cab is hand sanded using 5 different sanding grits and then hand rubbed for a soft satin finish.

Cabochons can be used in jewelry by using bead weaving and bead embroidery techniques. They can also be turned into pendants by gluing a bail on the back.

If you would like this cab turned into a pendant, please convo me prior to purchasing. I will add a silver plated bail and the cost will be an additional $2. The process of adding the bail will take one additional day before it can be mailed.

The main color on one side is gold. The other side contains almost every color of the rainbow with a blue reflection. The back is black. Because of the larger size, it is heavier.

This cabochon can be used with bead embroidery or beadweaving techniques or a silver plated bail can be attached so that it can be worn as a pendant.

Something sparkling like ice? Something shiny like gold? Something elegant yet feminine?

This piece was my entry in the Etsy Beadweavers team December challenge, "Snow Queen" in which it came in 6th!

I used hundreds of the tiniest size 15 rocaille seed beads throughout this 18" necklace. I combined transparent silver lined silver rocailles with transparent silver lined light gold rocailles. The spiral rope chain also uses 3mm Czech glass faceted beads. The beaded toggle clasp uses the same beads.

There are a variety of beadweaving stitches used in this design: peyote, brick, spiral, and netting. Each tiny bead is added one at a time using needle and thread. The hours put into this piece are mind-boggling, but the joy in making it a thousand times more.
I love the metallic look with the shimmering yellows, pinks and blues that peek through.

I created a bezel and bail with beadweaving using peyote stitch and size 11 and size 15 glass seed beads in black, silver, yellow and blue. The necklace chain is tubular peyote using size 15 rocaille glass beads. I was pleasantly surprised by the chain maille look of the beaded chain.

The necklace is 17" (43cm) long. The pendant hangs down 1 1/2" (3.8cm) and is 1 1/4" (3.2cm) wide at the widest part. The last picture shows the back of the pendant.

The peyote tubes were slipped onto teardrop shaped silver plated wire earrings.

The dangles are created from Czech fire polished glass beads and round nugget style silver and black glass beads on silver plated head pins.

The earrings are 2 1/2" (6.5cm) long including the silver plated earwires and are 1" (2.5cm) wide at the widest part.

These earrings can be made in any color.
