Lingerie soft silky sanded rayon with a slight crinkle pressed in is trimmed in 100% handmade vintage silk bias. Whether you pair it with silk trousers or jeans, you'll be the only Goddess wearing one! Features exclusive to this unusual top only include:

* Sanded silk like rayon vintage fabric with lazy crushed pleats. Who needs an iron!? The color really is a rust like robin's breast feather red floating in really old cognac. My photos and monitor show it pumpkin color which is much more orange than the real thing. You also can't see the characteristic sanded highlights in the fabric.

* Beaded vintage silk bias taken from a 1940s dress defines the neckline and meanders Chinesorrie style down the front to end in a single copper colored beaded tassle - all applied by hand.

* Shaped front can be tied loosely in individual knots or together.

* More rusty beaded dots wander randomly front and back.

* Natural edge fringe is allowed. In the history of cloth, selvedges were often decorated during the weaving process and were never cut or hidden!

* The fluid drape takes advantage of bias cutting the front and just allowing the fabric to do it's own thing.

I stopped making these one-of-a-kind ritual gowns and special wear pieces for Goddesses for a long while. The handwork and details are just intense. I'm obsessed while I work on each one and this gown fit for a little Aurora Goddess is no exception.

I am what is called a 'Plus Sized' gal. That's a euphemism for, "Unless you want to swathe your curves in awning stripes, girly, you're outta luck in the beautiful wear department".

Not being into black unless I'm casting spells and roots, or vertical stripes, or any other type of camo manufactured out there for us Ruben types, I turned my lint talents into making a line of Goddess Sized gowns for both day and evening under my Blue Goddess label some 26 years ago.

I used it to redefine how we Jane Russell types look and feel about ourselves in our clothing. I wanted regal, so many of the gowns feature trains and voluminous skirts that swirl with every zephyr of wind. And tops and skirts have to attract attention, not thwart it. I wanted stand out, so I use sumptuous materials and unusual details. I wanted quality, so each gown has an enormous amount of time and hand stitching involved.

When out of my mind and buying things in past years, I bought up grundles of various elastics bent on making my own underwear and bras along with swimwear because I was tired of ordinary Fruit of the Looms unders. Indeed I did make them, but my visions of custom slinky wear outpaced the available time to make it.

I got lots of each type and color because I wanted coordinating pieces. Boy was I a busy little hottie! Now it's your turn. I've got about every conceivable color in here and even have some Victoria's Secret vintage glory bought from the warehouse.

This would be perfect for the boutique designer who specializes in lingerie where you need consistency for a size range in the same color, or for multiple pieces in a design suite.

I'll offer them in lots as I come across them. There's also elastic for mens boxers, briefs, and speedos because I wrapped a few exes in my custom stuff.

Sold in 2 yard lots, silky cream rolled elastic is captured on a silk soutache braid. Braid is 1/8", stretch loops are 1/4" and it's 3/8" overall. Loops are spaced at 1" intervals. This was meant to sew into a gown or sleeve for uniform spacing of covered or little pearl buttons. Would work wonderfully with corset lacing!

I have 10 lots of 2 yards each and you're getting 1 lot. These are precut from the importer.

My first Jewelie offered here on Etsy is called 'Charlotte', a Beau Brummel styled ascot for your hand! Shades of peridot, spring green and lime accented with gold and pink. Note: You cannot sneak up on someone with Charlotte on your hand! Four tiny gold bells hidden in the ribbons announce you with a fairy lite tinkle!

Vintage silk ribbons paired with modern ones forms a fringe on one side. (Please note that two of the ribbons used on Charlotte are vintage and are fragile - don't use them to tow your SUV!!) A 1950s clip earring, a 60s charm and one little Cherokee rose nested on brocade ribbon points accent the top of the cuff. A swirl of liquid gold pleated lame forms the base. There is also a bit of lame that covers the elastic loops on the back closure. 6 vintage brass buttons hold Charlotte on your wrist and an elastic ring for your finger anchors the top.

Embellished with Swarovski crystal AB and strawberry, glass beads, acrylic flower beads and leaves, and judicious use of my stash of antique and contemporary beads collected over 40 years. Beads are rhodochrosite pink, chalcedony green, emerald, peridot, moldavite, chrysoberyl. Lime green mercury glass with its rainbow chatoyance catches every glint of light.

Holiday sale!! Opulent 1950s vintage ball gown sleeve redesigned and embellished. Sparkle is good. Lots of sparkle is even better. My "Jewelies" are bait, pure and simple! I've made these for performers, belly dancers, and Divas since the early 1980s.

This Jewelie offered is called 'Layla' after a favorite belly dancer. Revamped with Our Lady of the Dirty Martini in mind, old silver lined glass rocailles and bugle beads are accented with Swarovski crystal, opal sequins, and large rocailles in greens and gold trace the outline of two starfish and the water trail behind them. Done on pale green French netting with tambour work, Layla has been rebeaded with me anchoring every old bead and the original green rhinestones into place. Lost beads were filled in from my stash of antique beads.

I can't leave shiney alone, so I added fringes of silver and green beads to the edges of the stars. Pretty vintage 1970s satin ribbon stiched side by side and dotted with silver lined rocailles cover the elastic top. It is fully adjustable through the tiny buttonhole on the back of the upper sleeve. Another elastic loop holds Layla snuggly on your hand allowing the bottom edge to dust the backs of your fingers.

Layla is very like the first dancer's sleeves I made back in the 1980s that make hand movements divine and definitely mesmerizing!

My jewlies are 100% hand stitched and take several days to construct. Layla is not lined so a lovely arm shows through.

Measures 16.5" between finished edges, 14" with elastic stretched out (9" gatheredup), and is 16" across at the bottom of the bell.

The ball gown that Layla comes from has been used up in several recycled art projects, including the Labyrinth art coat I offer. So, this is an exception to the "I'll make you something similar offer" as there is no way to duplicate the net and the weeks of hand beading would be cost prohibitive for you. But I CAN be bought for a princely sum if you are committed to owning another similar one just as sumptuous in your color!

Holiday Sale!! Christian Dior had this wonderful lipstick shade that was so deep a ruby red, that it was pure vamp. I own it. The crimped velvet reminded me so much of the color that I named the glove after the lipstick -- 'Rubis'.

My "Jewelies" are bait, pure and simple! I've made these for performers, belly dancers, and Divas since the early 1980s.

This Jewelie offered is revamped with pure retro vamp in mind. The kind of vamp from the old silent movies - Theda Bara, Mata Hari, juicy old girls. 1920s style yachting patch in gold bullion with glass accents is centered in a hand joined ribbon cockarde. I used 4 rows of 3 different ribbons and stitched them together for a one-of-a-kind flower accent with a row of three sided ruby colored rocailles.

Since the original glass pearl long ago lost its nacre, I added a fillip of ruby glass and AB Swarovski, real garnet chunks and an old brass charm with an attached crystal dangle.

The velvet is left over from a redux on a 1960s cashmere coat. Very Goth. Very Dramatic. Touchably Soft. At $30.00 a yard, I couldn't bear to part with the scraps. Rubis is lined with a deep cherry peau d'ange that is soft and supple against your hand. And garnet, M'dears, is all about passion and heart! Makes your aura sizzle!

Two fringes of ruby glass and garnet beads weight the corners of the cuff to show the lining. Closure is corset style with little gold rings to guide the ribbon through. An elastic loop holds Rubis snuggly on your hand so you can focus on come-hither gestures instead of losing your cuff in your Manhattan.

A vintage 1960s rhinestone clip earring in a spray pattern suggested a comet's tail finished with silver lined blue and silver bugles and roccails and ending with holographic flat sequins in silver and gold. Platinum fairy beads by Swarovski end each tail. The rhinestone centerpiece is held on securely by rocailles sewn on bullion style. Upper sleve is ribbon and elastic to adjust for your comfort.

Russian Empresses and Old World Countessas, resplendant in courtly robes but needing just one more thing to be regal.

My rendition of royalty is a blend of Czech glass, unusual frosted glass Miyukis, Swarovski crystals - some of them retired, mercury glass, antique jet bugles, ab seeds and cat's eyes, vintage and antique crystals from the 1860s, tiny gemstones, outrageously big old stones from long ago costume jewelry, brass wire of several sizes curling and twining around each other like ivy on an ancient castle. Just a piece of glory.

The base can be shaped to your head and will accomodate a veil. The front of the base rises to a height of about 3" to 3 1/2" including the top of the spires.

If you want your special ritual day to be one-of-a-kind, the most never-to-be-repeated, envy evoking event ever, this is what will put you there in stone. Now I'm adding hard to find crin or horsehair trim for you hatters who're having a time finding it. Crin is a stiff nylon open Jacob's ladder weave that has some give and stretch. You can find this in European hat shops gracing the most stylish of seasonal hats.

Use it as a huge looped fillip on your Juliet styled fascinators and hats with a single curled coque. Luscious!

Swiss dot is much different than dotted Swiss. Swiss dot is an open semi-soft net with a small dot woven in like Merry Widow veilig.

Swiss is not as scratchy as English veiling and makes incredible falling bands like you see on old riding hats. It is sometimes called Pointe d'sprit. Ghost dot??

This color is tremendous and very camera shy. It is a dark fucshia or raspberry. You get a 20" along the selvedge X 42" wide piece. I have multiples of this.

Just got these in from my gypsy of a vendor! These are real silk satin flowers. Leaves are rayon, I believe. Each flower holds a pearl and the flower petals are pleated the old fashioned way!

You can separate the wire stems and use them individually, but as they are, they'd make incredible boutonnieres, nosegays, at the center of a lace bouquet for bridesmaids, or pinned to your Sunday frock or business suit lapel.

Very well made. I have very few of these. You're getting one silk cluster for a very little jing! If you want more than one, let me know and I round them all up for a count.

Some of the new flowers I got in have colors that I haven't been able to ascribe to any know variety alive, ergo the Dead Rose Society.

The second somber offering is in a familiar frock but shows a face that can only be described in color as Ashes of Roses. This was actually a very popular color in Victorian Society with their penchant and delight in all things mourning named the same.

I have a 6 and a bit yards of this 2" wide unusual and rare venise embroidered on cotton voile. This is a remnant from a 1960s or 1970s reproduction gown construction salvaged from an old dresser.

You're getting it all. I won't cut this old beauty. This is an Alencon lace, but it is nylon woven with the heavy cordinette for lingerie and light bridal use.

Off white cotton embroidered lace that has faded to that soft shade all old laces become. This is all there is of this old beauty. Rare to find this much yardage of such a heavily worked machine piece.

Gorgeous cream color, I put it up washed so it's soft and ready to go.

I have a 6 and a bit yards of this 2" wide unusual and rare venise embroidered on cotton voile. This is a remnant from a 1960s gown construct bought from the wedding department of a now defunct fabric store that prided itself on imported laces.

I've pulled many a strange thing out of my trove of possesions. This is one that I actually remember. At the time, friends and I were guessing as to it's use. Silly moods bring silly visions and so it went.

'It looks like one of those maiden's caps in a Waterford painting, like Romeo and Juliet'.

"Naw. Too flat and would need a dart in the linen to make it curve." I said

'Well what about one of those thingies that grammys put on the back of their chairs'?

"An antimaccassar? Could be, but then she had to have measured his head while he slept or the stain his pomade made on her velvet sofa to come up with this shape", I said.

'Then how about a lady's yarmulke'?

"I won't even go there", I said. Didn't want to get into a religeous discussion on women and yarmulkes.

Antique Edwardian Brugges Duchess Bobbin Lace Tambour Embroidery Suite 7 PCS

Some old vintage and antique laces bubbled to the top, so this is what will list. These vary from late 1800s to 1950s. Quite a range in both time and style.

First up is just an exquisite and rare 7 peice suite of combination lace inserts meant to be incorporated into a summer frock, christening gown or wedding dress. It's unusual to find a number of coordinating pieces and even more rare to find them in such good condition.

I've dated this at turn of the century Edwardian. Compound lace panels of varying lengths and purposes are present. Executed around a 1 1/8" center band of white dimity with gorgeous tambour hook embroidery in a floral swag.

Two 5/8" tapes of Bruges/Duchess bobbin lace are attached either side. Edges are crocheted in a bar tack lattice and Richelieu points decorate finished ends.

All tapes measure approximately 3" wide exept laps where noted. These are clean, starched, pressed and pristine. The only issues are extant basting threads to attach these inserts and panel trims to the original garment. You get all:

1 Collar peice or tucker with plain dimity overlap finished ends 16". Small hole with some light discoloration.

2 lapped plackets, one with a small tape of the tambour with modern snaps. These appear to have been altered for a second use and have an extra tape width of the Duchess to form laps. 18"

2 straight panels 17" with no plackets.

1 Vee shaped insert with Richelieu lace on either ends. 22"

1 small insert finished on 3 sides 5"

This would make an heirloom project sensational! Or just add it to your collection.

Never realized that there was such misunderstanding about veiling, that diaphanous stuff that you see on brides, hiding a pair of mysterious eyes from beneath a hat brim, or completely hiding women from other cultural traditions from immodest gazes.

Let me put this down so that there's a little less confusion left. By no means exhaustive, there are some generalities about veiling that can be said. I wrote a paper on the significance of ritual wear in wedding customs towards my Anthropology degree. I won't be putting footnotes, photos or illustrations here, or a biblio on what my research found for me. If you'd like to add, disagree or comment, feel free, show me your references and I'll update this.

IN HISTORY:

There are lots of myths and legends surrounding the veil. It has one strand in status, another in ritual and religion, a large one in fashion and yet another in weather conditions.

Veils have been used since ancient times. Greek and Roman noble women wore them as a symbol of their status by forbidding commoners and courtesans from wearing them by law.

Gorgeous fabrics have been substituted for the more sheer veilings used by their westernized sisters by Muslim women. such as these beautiful ones by Etsy designer, Debra:

MODERN MILLINERY VEILING:

Tulle, net, silk and cotton gauze, chiffon, Georgette, embroidered or needle worked lace, aspirin dot, pointe d'espirit, Russian or English, and French veiling are the most commonly used in modern Western fashion.

Nylon net came about as a cheap substitute for silk veiling earlier in the 1900s.

First, the open veiling seen on hats comes in two sizes of holes only UNLESS it is a custom mill or handmade of silk for a design house, or was pressed out and stretched to be larger than the standard approx. 3/8" tall X 5/8" wide hole (.50mm X .15mm). It's been manufactured this way, first by hand in the late 1700s to the late 1800s until mechanized manufacturing slowly made hand netting obsolete.

The two styles of the larger holed veiling generally available today are Russian/English and French. Both have the back and forth spider tack joining the strands that are visible at the nexus of the cords. The French veiling has slightly smaller apertures than the British/Russ, but no matter what the name of the veiling, most veil is manufactured by specialized machines in China and Japan now.

The term 'Merry Widow' veiling, which is simply face veiling, with or without the chenille mouse or dot, comes from the 1934 movie, "The Merry Widow" when actress Lana Turner's character popularized veiling on hats associating the movie title with all face veiling.

The movie was adapted in turn from the turn of the century German opera of the same name.

HOLE SIZING:

Veiling purveyors very rarely talk about hole sizing since it's assumed that milliners and customers know what veiling is. They DO talk about veiling width - WIDE meaning the width of the entire material, not the holes themselves. It can be had in 9", 12", 18" and 24" when the wider two widths can be found at all. The 9" and 12" is the most commonly used. (1 Inch = 2.54 cm)

Aspirin dot and pointe d'espirit are much wider at 45" to 64" wide as aspirin and pointe have applications in costume and clothing design as well.

EDGE FINISHES:

The aspirin dot and pointe d'espirit are both finished like netted veiling. The réseau (the net-like ground), comes raw except for the selvedge edges. On merry widow and French veiling, the edges have a double strand of nylon or silk. On the aspirin and pointe d'espirit, the selvedges are woven.

The raw cut width edges are either covered with satin, grosgrain or velvet narrow ribbon or left raw like hat veiling. Some designers like Yen Jeffries of YJPaw http://www.etsy.com/shop/YJPaw and her sister shop YJDesign http://www.etsy.com/shop/yjdesign often use just an accent of net that has been clipped to the tack to shape it as well as sumptuous dollops of the stuff on their wedding line or hats.

DECORATIONS:

Many veilings are available for sale with a chenille mouse or dot that adds to their mysterious appeal. Some designers will add crystals or rhinestones to their creations.

Moues' (artificial beauty marks) were the mother of these embellishments.

Consider attaching tiny flowers, beads, real gem chips or little feathers with a clear, fast and firm attaching glue such as E-6000 or Aleene's Fabri-Tac.

Tacking a boa or laying feathers one on another around an edge gives a beautiful effect. For you reenactors, finishing the edges of a square of single or doubled silk or rayon chiffon with a wide black satin grosgrain ribbon adds a serious aire.

Choose startling colors and feel free to mix and match: Ever seen the fireworks that can happen by using two layers of different veiling colors like gold bullion mesh with turquoise or red? Or by layering burgundy and black chiffon together for an eye-popping color shift?

NON-TRADITIONAL VEILING MATERIALS:

Some millinery designers use plastic mesh from onion bags, cotton knit sportswear mesh, for an avant garde appeal
Yet others conjure up space up and artsy designs with metal mesh made of copper or steel. I once used neon orange and yellow accordion construction mesh for veils for a production of "Waiting For Godot".

Your hats and veils should reflect who you are, so experiment!

CARE AND STORAGE OF VEILINGS:

When you receive your veiling, it may be a bit rumpled from the trip. You can smooth it out with a warm iron, or allow it to lie flattened on a counter while you shower.

Veiling shouldn't be washed unless soiled. It will need to be removed from the hat if you're doing this yourself. Otherwise, a professional milliner should be left in charge of cleaning and re-blocking your hat and freshening your veil.

A gentle vacuuming with a pantyhose covered vacuum hose will often remove an accumulation of dust.

If you have to wash it, realize that washing veiling softens it for a different look. Some veiling is made without sizing expressly for a softer hand for use as pouffy bows on a riding or top hat. The Sunny California yellow veiling I sell is one such.

You can put the stiffness back in with commercial liquid sizings or starches by drying your veiling on a needle board (velvet board) or by pinning flat on a cardboard base covered with freezer paper shiny side up.

Both your hats or fascinators, wedding tiaras and their veiling should be stored for the long term in specialty boxes that are acid free. Tissue that is crumpled up will hold the shape of your design or you could put them on a hat form or head and display your treasures.

CRIN OR HORSEHAIR:

Crin, called horsehair in the United States, has a weave peculiar to it. Woven in an under over similar to plaiting or braiding gives it a stretchy hand. Made of heavy nylon seine, it can hold phenomenal shapes like outlandish sized bows and loops. You CANNOT iron crin at all unless you want to permanently fuse it to your iron!

Crin can be used for veiling, especially if you want a modern, futuristic look. Think of using it as a visor on a minimalist fascinator!

This next batch of laces I'll be listing for you are true antiques dating from the turn of the 1900s. I acquired a box load of these odds and ends twenty something years ago from a woman who's mother worked as a seamstress in a shirtwaist factory. I believe she said it was in New York.

The types I'm listing are schiffli needlerun on netting, Swiss lace on English netting or Limerick lace, Brussels Bobbin Lace, Velenciennes, some Bedford lace, and other odds and ends.

Most of these are sturdy and very useable! A few have holes from their age being boxed around for over a hundred years (I'd have a few holes, too!) I'll show you pictures of the ones with holes.

Some of you will prefer this shabby aura. Let me know if you are absolutely against adopting one of these without.

DESCRIPTION THIS OFFERING:

These measure approx. 2" X 8" (50mm X 200mm) and are light ecru in color, originally white. They are 2.15 apiece or 2 for 3.75. Not a bad price when you consider two appliques I bid on were sold for $28.00 US.

These were stained and discolored when I got them. I soaked these in a gentle soap often used for curating and caring for old textiles and they gave off big pee smell along with some bluing! This helps date textiles because ammonia and bluing were laundry agents of choice at the turn of the century. Sorry for you purists who prefer the au naturel state of your collectibles, but these were going on reproduction Victorian items that would be worn (and sniffed).

These are Valenciennes lace cuffs or pocket appliques based on the ancient Valenciennes lace of the 17th and 18th centuries. Ancient Valenciennes lace is a bobbin lace made on a lace pillow in one piece, with the réseau (the net-like ground) being made at the same time as the toilé (the pattern).

It differentiates itself from other types of lace because the openness of the réseau, the closeness and evenness of the toilé, which resembles cambric, and that it lacks any cordonnet (a loosely spun silk cord used to outline and define the pattern).

By the end of the 19th century Valenciennes was made on specialty machines. These machine made bobbin lace can and were often augmented by hand embroidery. If you look at the various pictures, you'll notice small differences in the toile of each piece.

Complex Wheeled Rose pattern executed in very fine threads. This beautiful piece would have been a perfect accessorie on a best dress for a maid's wedding.

Collar measures approx. 17" X 1.75" MOL which probably speaks to foreign origins, maybe even Ireland of the 1800s herself. This is where the lace making art began.

Issues: Age. Neck edge foundation chain is showing wear and loose threads from numerous bastings and removal from frock. One edge is cut as if an embellished fastener was removed. A few faint spots which may respond to a gentle washing.

This next batch of lace I'm listing, is mostly very old collars. Except for one or two exceptions, most are no younger than early 1930s and some are from the 1890s. Beautiful stuff! There are also some museum quality hand made lace yardages that will astound you.
