The original is now in a private collection, but I'm happy to be able to make these prints available.

This is an archival inkjet (giclee) print on smooth, white Moab acid-free paper. The paper is 8.5 x 11 and the image itself is about 6.5" across.

The print will be hand signed, sealed in an archival bag and shipped flat in a protective mailer.

Her grandparents told her that someday they would leave their town and head off over the ocean. The girl assumed that this was just a fable that they told her to help prepare her for their eventual deaths. But one day, her grandparents disappeared; they could not be found anywhere. After much exploring, the girl spied the scene depicted in the painting: the whale had come in to the shore, and was talking to the land via water-spout. The ocean water allowed them to communicate with each other. The girl could understand what they were saying, and learned that her grandparents had ridden away on the whale.

This print is made on smooth white Moab acid-free paper by an Epson archival pigment ink printer. The image is about 7" x 9.5" on 8.5" x 11" paper.

The print will be hand signed, sealed in an archival bag, and shipped flat in a protective mailer.

**Monitor color settings vary. The way the colors appear on your screen may not be totally accurate.

Larger giclee prints and the original work are also available in my shop.

Nature Made You CD ('experimental/indie/folk' album by Dinoswords, aka Bergmansbear)

$10.00
Music is really important to me. I always listen to music when I paint pictures. In 2002, I decided to start making my own messy low-fi folkie music for myself to listen to. Maybe other folks might like to listen to it, too? So, here is some of it.

This album contains 20 songs and sound-experiments from 2002 through 2005:

1. Am I Making This Sound?
2. Bells Ring
3. Gambits
4. Anthem
5. Oh Dear
6. Moo
7. Old South
8. On and On
9. Around Here
10. Null Set
11. Comet (for a kitten)
12. Bum a Ride
13. What’d You Say?
14. I Insist
15. Wednesday’s a Fine Day
16. 176 bpm
17. Upside Down
18. When It’s Cold
19. Face in the Sky
20. Arsenal

Running time: 34 mins

I wrote and recorded all the songs and played all the instruments. I also designed and executed the packaging (using Stumptown's Arigato Pak recycled paper CD case). Each CD is numbered and contains a little insert with some drawings and lyrics.

You can hear sound clips on my website:
http://www.bergmansbear.com/?page_id=7

I suppose it's possible you might enjoy this music if your music collection consists of things like the Microphones/Mt Eerie, Mirah, Joanna Newsom's first album, Devendra Banhart's first album, maybe also Bjork and Simon & Garfunkel and John Denver and the Velvet Underground and Aphex Twin? But it is homemade music from someone new to music-making, and it doesn't sound like any of those people/bands.

Well, anyways, I am writing an awful lot about little silly songs! It is funny to offer an audio object on a visual site like Etsy! It feels weirder than listing paintings and prints.
It is a really beautiful print--I think I actually like it better than the real painting.

The paper is 16 x 20 and the image is 12 x 16--same as the original piece.

The picture shows part of a story of a young girl who lived along the northern coast of the Pacific Ocean. Her grandparents told her that someday they would leave their town and head off over the ocean. The girl assumed that this was just a fable that they told her to help prepare her for their eventual deaths. But one day, her grandparents disappeared; they could not be found anywhere. The ocean water allowed them to communicate with each other. The girl could understand what they were saying, and learned that her grandparents had ridden away on the whale.

The print ships unmatted in an archival art bag (see the first photo), temporarily backed with foamcore for rigidity, in a flat no-bend mailer.

It is an homage to a big powerful horse I once knew who had a problem with his larynx. I won't tell you the whole story here because it is sad. But, I really like this drawing and am happy to make it available as a nice little print.

The original is a pencil drawing slightly larger than the size of this print. This print is made on Hahnemuhle acid-free paper by an Epson archival pigment ink printer. The image is about 6.5" x 8" on 8.5" x 11" paper, matted to a final size of 11" x 14" for easy framing.

The print will be hand signed, sealed in an archival bag, and shipped flat in a protective mailer.

Unmatted versions are also available for $12. The dark trees on the left are learning how to grow through rocks, to absorb strength from the rocks. The white trees are connected to the water, and gain power from the water. Beyond that, I don't really know what is happening -- are they are fighting, or just talking, or something else? You can make up your own end to the story.

This painting is sold framed and ready to hang, with a barnwood frame.

It wants to stretch up into the sky. The sky also wants to be closer to the land; it is forming a shape of a house or tent to shelter the little land-spikes. The severe shape of the land-spikes looks unnatural, but after making this painting I learned that there are undersea mountains (seamounts) shaped like this.

This is the original work - NOT a reproduction.

This painting is sold framed in a simple black wood "floater" frame that showcases the canvas nicely.

He is lonely and the place where he is is always cloudy and misty. The mountains there are really huge. This is #8 in the series, titled "What Happened?" I dunno...wha happen? Why the funny shape of the icy lake? Why is there no snow anywhere else? What happened?

It measures about 4 inches across. The painting is signed, dated, numbered and titled on the reverse. There is a sawtooth hanger on the back which makes hanging very easy.

The sides have been stained a glossy red mahogany brown and the surface of the piece is, as you can tell from the pictures, part shiny and highly reflective (the land) and part low-gloss/matte (the water/ice). I had a really hard time taking decent pictures that would display the colors on the shiny surface, but I hope you will get the idea....

These one-of-a-kind little paintings are nice to hang in a cozy nook or small space in your home, above your desk, or any spot where you need a little window to another land.

The Whale Took My Grandparents (oil on panel, 16 x 12)

$420.00
The Whale Took My Grandparents
Oil on panel, 11.75" x 16"
Unframed

I now have beautiful giclee prints of this piece available in my Etsy shop! This listing is for the original work.

This painting shows part of a story of a young girl who lived along the northern coast of the Pacific Ocean.

**Monitor color settings vary. The tints and hues depicted on the your screen may not be exactly right.
There's a lot of ideas crammed onto this CD.

You can hear some of the songs at http://www.bergmansbear.com/?page_id=7

Track List:

1. Tunnels In Caves
20. Believe In A Fostered Thought
21. Turn Around And See
22. The Stone Tower
23. Palisades In Stride
24. Gourd Root
25. Triple Crowns
26. My Work Is To Carve The Ridge
27. Silver Skeleton
28. A Thousand Holes
29. Flying High In The Wake Of A Dirty War
30. Worth My Weight

Running time: 1.2 hours

About This CD:
In spring 2006, my friends and I were frustrated about how our jobs and the general business of daily life made it difficult for us to find the time for making music. My husband proposed a project to help us become more productive: to write and record a song every day for a month. We decided to do it in June and created 30 titles, one assigned to each day of the month. We worked independently and posted the songs online after each was completed.

This project completely changed how I thought about making music. It gave me a lot of confidence; I’m proud that not only was I able to actually complete the project, I even like listening to most of what I made. It gave me license to try ideas that I may have otherwise ignored--or never come up with at all.

Some days were frustrating, like when I only had an hour or so to spare (#’s 8, 18, 20); days when I tried to experiment with music far different from what I normally do, but felt embarrassed by the result (#’s 10, 24); or days when I couldn’t figure out what to sing (#’s 13, 14, 15).

But other days were exhilarating, like June 5th, a beautiful clear-blue-sky afternoon when I recorded from my window the sounds of birdsongs and neighborhood kids playing; June 26th, my first “disco” song; the 29th, my first use of a harmonica; or June 19th, when I recorded the strongest thunderstorm of the month (though I saved the loudest thunderclap until the 30th to close the album).

A really strong feeling of “creative community” evolved over the month. We were so focused on making these little songs! Our days became so simplified: get up, go to work, come home, make music. Repeat. I gained weight and our apartment was a mess. Every evening (or the following morning--we almost always worked on the songs well past midnight) we would listen to what we each had made. It was really nice. I miss that feeling.

----

I wrote and recorded all the songs and played all the instruments. I also designed and executed the packaging (using Stumptown's Arigato Pak recycled paper CD case), which contains an insert with lyrics.

You can hear some of the songs at my website:
http://www.bergmansbear.com/?page_id=7

I suppose it's possible you might enjoy my music if your music collection consists of things like the Microphones/Mt Eerie, Laurie Anderson, Joanna Newsom, Bjork, Simon & Garfunkel and John Denver and the Velvet Underground and Aphex Twin? The stuff I make doesn't sound like any of those people, but they influence what I do, so there's a chance of crossover appeal, perhaps?

This is #10 in the series, titled "Don't Go Over There." Don't go there, because something awful might happen. You remember what happened last time...

It measures about 4 inches across. The painting is signed, dated, numbered and titled on the reverse. There is a sawtooth hanger on the back which makes hanging very easy.

These one-of-a-kind little paintings are nice to hang in a cozy nook or small space in your home, above your desk, or any spot where you need a little window to another land.

But the top of the mountain is not shown in cutaway; it is made of clouds that have come down out of the storm on the left, and coalesced on the mountaintop to form the snowy peak.

This item is the original work, NOT a reproduction.

It is framed with a barnwood frame that I altered a little bit.

He is lonely and the place where he is is always cloudy and misty. The mountains there are really huge. If you were standing next to the horse-spirit, you would be about the size of one of his teeth.

This is an archival giclée print by the experts at Skylake Studios, on Hahnemühle acid-free rag paper.

The image measures approx. 9.75" x 11.75" (same as the original work it is a reproduction of) and the paper is 11.2" x 13.3." The print will be hand signed and shipped flat in a fiberboard mailer.
