A terrific deal! A hank of glass Italian seed beads, most likely from the twenties or thirties. Each bead is 1.5 mm in diameter and approximately 1 to 1.5 mm long. I think they would be approximately the size of a size 11 today, but that's only an approximation. The hank consists of eight strands, and each strand is approximately eighteen inches long, for a total of about twelve feet of beads in a hank. Some of the beads are irregularly shaped and a few might be broken. They are color lined, and I believe they are 2-cuts, meaning that they have a facet or two per bead, which gives them a little bit of sparkle. They are really beautiful, delicate shade of blue.

Even more wonderful, the holes are large enough to accommodate .019 Soft-Flex! I have found that about 95% of each hank will fit on .019 Soft-Flex wire.

This is a very interesting find! This is a shell bead, most likely from Occupied Japan (1946-1951). This is a real shell which has been sliced and drilled multiple times. There are two holes at the top, and five holes at the bottom. The pictures show the front and back. This pendant measures 2 1/4" x1 1/2" x 1/2" thick. The design possibilities are terrific--the holes are about 2mm in diameter, so you can string multiple strands of flexible beading wire/metal wire through them, or they're big enough to accommodate silk or leather. It looks terrific with pearls. It's a small piece of history, and it's terrific for wirewrapping! There might be small imperfections like small chips, marks, and/or scratches.

I think they would be approximately the size of a Japanese size 8 today, but that's only an approximation. The hank consists of eighteen strands, and each strand contains approximately two hundred beads, for a total of about 3600 beads in a hank. Some of the beads are irregularly shaped and a few might be broken. They are made with satin glass, which is a difficult and expensive glass to make because it involves many tiny bubbles that give the glass its satiny look.
