I just hate to see waste! My workbench was loaded with scrap silver. As I played around for ideas one day, I started to notice the interesting shapes left behind from other creations and a new series of jewelry emerged. Also at the time, I was excited to use a new shipment of beach pottery from ETSY's rubycquins in Scotland.

This handmade one of a kind pendant is layered with interesting sterling silver shapes and a bezel set piece of beach pottery that has a brilliant yellow glaze still on the surface. I set this pottery so the back is visible. An 18" chain is also included. The entire piece is blackened and satin polished to create dramatic contrast of the layered silver and pottery.

Pendant approximately 1.25" wide X 1.5" tall.

Fossil Sponge Pendant Necklace

Let’s go way back in time to appreciate this fossil. Trapped within this satin finished copper pendant is a Haplistion sphaericum from the early Permian time period. That’s a sponge about 300 million years old!

I collected sponge fossils last fall while on a rock hunt around southeast Nebraska with a geologist. I carefully placed the sponge between two copper sheets so the sponge can be viewed from all sides. Is that the shape of Nebraska? The copper will age to a nice brown color over time. The pendant hangs from a thick braided leather cord with a copper hook and eye closure.

When I get tired of the plain color of metal, I string BEADS! I love making these rich with color one of a kind necklaces. This beautiful summer/fall extravaganza has 62 inches of beads! Twenty seven handmade beads combined with lots of glass beads in accenting colors of rust, butterscotch, olive green, tangerine, and pearly freshwater pearls. Three tapered strands on strong beading wire, combine all the glory together with a handmade copper hook clasp.

This would be beautiful with golden yellows for summer and then your warm orange and brown wardrobe in the fall.

It's adjustable from 22"-23". The two longer strands of course hang down from that by about 1" each. Beads range in size from large 25mm disk beads down to 5mm glass beads.

This warm brown Rhyolite stone from New Mexico is set in a handmade sterling silver bezel. Can you see the subtle landscape within the imagery of the stone? I repeated the curves of color patterned in the stone to the sterling silver crown on top of the setting. The sterling is lightly blackened to stay warmer with the rich colors of the stone. Another beautiful stone cut by Roger Pabian, Geologist, of Lincoln, NE. Roger has traveled the world looking for unique stones for research and to share with gem and mineral lovers. Here's a grand necklace / collar from my fossil series.

Each 1" sponge is carefully caged with sterling silver wire. Accenting the collar necklace are vintage ivory textured and handmade natural red clay beads. Each carefully strung on 20lb. stringing wire. The closure is strung with vintage artificial pearls to create comfort for wearing and a handmade sterling silver wire hook makes it easy to put on and remove.

This necklace is elegant and very showy. Approximately 22" long end to end.

Sterling Silver Cast Ring

Organic and like no other! This sterling silver lost wax cast ring is certainly one you'll never see another like it. Made completely of one piece of solid sterling silver. The recessed areas are blackened for greater depth and texture. This is a solid and very interesting ring.

The lost wax process is very time consuming and laborious. First, the ring is modeled of wax. The wax model is cast into a plaster type product, called investment, to produce a mold. Once the mold is heated, melted sterling silver is poured into the mold. Within minutes, a cast ring is extracted from the mold. Tedious polishing finishes the ring for wearing.

Yes from an ancient shark skin in Guthrie County, IA! Did you know there was an inland sea in Iowa many many years ago?

One of the most interesting one of a kind pendants I've ever made. The tuberacles are very unique in texture and design - something only nature could create.
