Pottery Drinking Vessel or Goblet

I started to make drinking vessels after many years of broken stems on goblets, and my own dislike of the balance issuues when drinking my vino from them.

These wheel thrown "goblet" style drinking vessels are so much more practical. I make hot mulled wine and cider during the holidays and we use these for that.

They are made from porcelain clay, measure 4.5 inches high X 3 inches wide and hold approximately 9 ounces.
They are glazed inside with a smooth satin matte off white glaze because I like to ensure glazes can withstand the acidity of wine , and to ensure durability and safety.
You will receive the vessel pictured.

I'm adding my recipe for our favorite holiday hot mulled
wine. This can be made without the wine for those who prefer.

24 ounces cranberry juice
24 ounces apple juice
1 bottle red wine
1 cinnamon stick
5 cloves
2 allspice buds
1 small piece of candied ginger
1 sliced orange
2 tblsp Demarara or any dark cane sugar (optional)

Method:

Put all liquid ingredients, plus orange slices in a large
crockpot.

Make a bundle of spices wrapped in cheesecloth or linen
and tie it off tightly with string. (or just use commercial mulling spices)

Simmer in crockpot for at least 4 hours.

This is a recipe where you can keep adding liquid (wine:) and juices) to the mix as your guests drink it because the spices last all evening.

The suribachi is a pottery mortar with a wooden pestle
designed for mashing spices, garlic, and other herbs for use
in your favorite gourmet dishes.

This one has been thrown on the potter's wheel and then carved to form an ideal surface for grinding. It fits the hand comfortably and the one I have sits out on the counter beside the stove ready for use.

This is a smaller stoneware suribachi. It is 6.5 inches (16.9cm) in diameter and 3.5 inches (9cm) deep. The grinding area is unglazed to facilitate the grinding. The outside is glazed in an iron rich cinnamon colored glaze.

I have taken a picture of it on an 8 inch square wood riser
so that you have an idea of the scale of the piece.

Millefiori Slab Built Porcelain Bowl One of a Kind

This piece of pottery is indeed a "one of a kind".
It would be impossible to recreate the piece because the technique used would always render the pieces individual and different.

This bowl was made by constructing canes of porcelain clay in two colors and then rolling them through a pasta press until they are very thin. The patterned pieces are then composed
on a plaster mold to complete the finished piece. The process used is a contemporary adaptation of the traditional millefiori technique.

The bowl is glazed in a clear glaze to allow the abstract undulating pattern of the two combined clays to feature prominently. This piece is fired in an electric kiln to 2250.

It is a rather delicate piece measuring 7 inches in diameter and 3 inches high and features a handbuilt foot to provide a bit of stability and elegance.

Because the bowl is quite delicate and fragile it will be shipped "double boxed" to ensure that it arrives safely.

This sculptural tile was created in a press mold ,carved with a highly textured relief design and glazed with several earthy stoneware glazes. It has been fired to 2380 F and is suspended from a copper chain that allows it to function both indoors and out as a small piece of abstract art. The beads are wood.
It is glazed on the sides, but the back remains unglazed and has been signed and dated.

Variations in the photographs do occur because it has been photographed in both natural and artificial light. The close up most accurately reflects the glaze colors.
