This is a 10" x 10" print of one of 48 Botanicas, an ongoing project.
A series very connected to my deep appreciation of the amazing world of plants.

A unique print since it is printed on ricepaper that has been treated specially to receive the printing ink.
It is printed with the Epson R2400 with 8 different color cartridges of K3 pigment inks. These inks are archival and fade resistant, they will last for generations!
Once printed it is permanently glued to a 10"H x 10"W x 0.75"D cotton canvas, wrapping around the edges.
Then finished with 2 coats of an archival UV (ultra violet) varnish.
Ready to hang, no frame is necessary!

Print is signed and dated by the artist.

This artwork is shipped wrapped in bubble wrap and delivered in a sturdy cardboard box.

How is the "ORIGINAL" made:

The medium is watercolor and the surface is ricepaper.

I draw thin lines to render forms and composition.
With repeated washes of watercolor,
hues deepen and blend within the forms.

shapes emerge, creating new images which are painted.

Buds raise their faces towards radiant rays.
Dormant seeds begin to open and emerge forth.
Newborns appear, arise, bud, come out, dawn and emerge.
For now the days have widen and swelled letting spring happen again...

Over time, Casein pigments become resistant to moisture and as history has proven, the medium has a durability and permanence which has easily stood the test of time.

A unique print since it is printed on a (different paper each time) off-white ricepaper with small bark specks that has been treated specially to receive the printing ink.
It is printed with the Epson R2400 with 8 different color cartridges of K3 pigment inks. These inks are archival and fade resistant, they will last for generations!
Once printed it is permanently glued to a 10"H x 10"W x .75"D cotton canvas, wrapping around the edges.
Then finished with 2 coats of an archival UV (ultra violet) varnish.
Ready to hang, no frame is necessary!

Print is signed by the artist.

Radiant! Sparkling dashes of color surface and dance around here everyday.

One that I am fascinated with, is " Miss Hya Cinth" with her delicate row of petals, fluting out like small tooting horns. She is my newest star in my bunch of sparkles, definitely a subject to paint.

Casein has an exceptional integrity of color and always dries to a perfect matte finish. The velvety matte finish can also be buffed to a satin sheen or varnished to produce a resemblance to oils. Over time, Casein pigments become resistant to moisture and as history has proven, the medium has a durability and permanence which has easily stood the test of time.

Moon Cacti are not a genus. it's the result of a cactus graft, an actual physical union of the vascular systems of the two plants.

It is printed with the Epson R2400 with 8 different color cartridges of K3 pigment inks. These inks are archival and fade resistant, they will last for generations!

Papaya - archival BOTANICA print on ricepaper

A "Papaya" is the fruit of the plant "Carica papaya" a native plant to the tropics of the Americas.
It has also been nicknamed "tree melon", since these melons grow on a tree!

The most popular way to eat papayas is to cut them in half, scoop out the seeds and eat the flesh with a spoon. The unripe green fruit of papaya can be eaten cooked, in curries, salads, stews and as sweet preserves. The black seeds are edible and have a sharp, spicy taste. They are sometimes ground up and used as a substitute for black pepper.

This root is holding fast
providing nutrition and stability.
It is an anchor to the ground and
a force in search of water and food.

Keeping away from drought it seeks and grows.
It may crack foundations, snap waterlines
and lift sidewalks to find the water and permanence.

But it could also protect this environment by holding in our soil and preventing it's impoverishment by erosion.

Kalidio is my play on the word "kaleidoscope".

This optical instrument when rotated it creates a succession of symmetrical designs based on the interplay of light, reflection and color.
Most flowers are dynamic symmetrical shapes constantly shifting colors and patterns.

They are like happy "living-kaleidoscopes" flashing bits of color!
