Black Satin Bow Tie Necklace

I've been really into collared shirts lately, so when I found some small satin bows at a local trim shop I immediately thought of using them in a necklace somehow, creating a quasi bow-tie look. They sat idly in my studio for a few months but I finally came up with a design I was happy with this month after scoring some great black chain, the perfect finishing touch for this piece.

The bow is made of polyester satin and measures 3 1/4" across. The silver tone chain has a shiny finish and a great twist shape (please note this is not sterling silver, sterling silver chain IS available, however it will increase the price of the finished product by $15 and the chain will be thinner, convo me for details if you have allergies). The black chain is made of black toned aluminum, therefore will not chip like some enameled chain does, the black colour goes all the way through the metal! The necklace is finished off at the back with a small lobster clasp and a laser cut wooden Norwegian Wood charm. The chain on this piece is 15" long.

Maximum Fringe Necklace - White, Fluro, Grey

I decided to take the idea of my basic fringe necklace, and turn up the fringe dial to "maximum". I love how this piece came out, and will no doubt be doing further maxed out fringe necklace experiments.

The chain on this necklace is a silver tone colour, although it is not real silver. There are 4 different styles of chain included in this necklace, of various contents. The largest chunky chain is aluminum with a silver tone finish, which helps prevent this piece from weighing a ton. The other chains are either brass or steel with a silver tone finish. The multiple chains are joined together at the back with a great sliding latch that locks in place, making the chains nice and secure. I've also added a small wooden Norwegian Wood logo charm to the back of the necklace for a little extra laser cut magic.

I have hand stitched the fringe with matching thread along the lowest hanging chain, so it is very secure. Go ahead, wear this necklace out dancing! You may get fringe stuck all over your sweaty neck, but damn, you'll look amazing!

My favorite trim shop here in Mtl is a treasure trove of the most amazing things, including a huge array of new and vintage elastic trims. I'd always loved looking at these trims, but without the perfect project I had to deny myself from going nuts. When I developed the "Chain it Up, Zip it Up, Harness it Up" piece with Michelle Yue, I had harnesses on the brain and dreamed up this elastic harness/belt/suspender type contraption. Finally I got to go nuts in the trim store!

This particular harness is made of a great vintage plaid elastic, with gold tone steel hooks at the front and a gold tone steel ring at the back. Since the harness is made of elastic it will fit quite a few people, however I'm calling this one a small/medium. The elastic measures 26" around the ribcage, unstretched, and will stretch comfortably up to 31". If you need the fit to be tighter, let me know as this is a fairly easy adjustment to make. If you need a larger size shoot me a convo, I'm always open to making custom sizes, equal fashion for all!

Wood and Leather -Mitra- necklace in Grey and Black

I'd like to introduce you to "Mitra" the second piece in my new mini collection of jewelry, all made from wood, acrylic, leather and metal combos.

I first put together this grouping for the "Fashion POP" competition (Montreal in Fall 09) and after winning decided that these necklaces needed to be a part of my regular offerings! Their debut was this past October as part of a mini collection I did for Topshop in London as part of their EDIT program. This series of necklaces was sold exclusively this Nov/Dec at Topshop (Oxford Circus) and is now available here on Etsy!

The wood and acrylic components of this necklace are laser cut using off-cut Mahogany lumber and acrylic from my friend Mikes company, Furni (www.furnicreations.com). This design is a mix of mahogany, smoky acrylic with etched lines, wood bars attached with rings and hand cut leather geometric shapes. The wood pieces are finished by first sanding and then oiling to give them a natural yet rich look. The wood and acrylic components are then joined with metal rings and finished off with a chunky metal chain. The final touch is a small wooden Norwegian Wood logo charm at the back neck. The necklace closes at the center back with an oversized lobstser clasp.

Measurements:
Width at widest point - 4 1/2"
Total Height (not including chain) - 6"
Chain length - 20"

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the rigidness of the necklace it needs to be shipped in a box to prevent it from snapping, the regular bubble envelopes I usually use will just not do in this case! I think we will all agree that receiving an item safely is worth the price of proper packaging, so I hope all customers understand the necessity of an increased shipping price compared to the fringe necklaces.

Luxe Collection Leggings - Bike Short Leggings

These leggings are part of my "Luxe" collection of leggings, and are based on an idea I'm very excited about...the bike short/leggings hybrid! The perfect layering piece!

You know when you see an amazing old lady on the street and her crazy style is strangely inspiring? Well this design was inspired by a lady I saw rocking a pair of solid on the top/sheer on the bottom pants, just walking down the street on a Wednesday afternoon like it was no big deal. I've had bike shorts on the brain lately so I immediately noticed her pants and decided they needed to be reincarnated into a bike shorts/leggings hybrid.

The upper portion of these leggings is made of SUPER soft bamboo/spandex blend fabric. The lower sheer portion is made of polyester/spandex sheer mesh. Due to the delicate nature of the mesh these tights should be hand washed in cool water and hung to dry.

All the seams are overlocked for durability, the leg openings are finished with a stretch zig zag stitch, and the waistband is finished with a narrow lingerie elastic as well as zig zag stitch so the WB is nice and stretchy, yet will not lose its shape. The WB hits at around the belly button/true waist. I find that a regular rise looks so much more fresh now, and really looks a lot better under most clothing, much smoother.

For now this item will be made to order, and is available in the following sizes:
S - fits 24-26 waist, 34-36 hip
M - fits 27-30 waist, 37-39 hip
L - fits 31-34 waist, 40-43 hip

The inseam for all sizes is 34", let me know if you need a different length, it's no problem to change.

Since this item is custom made to your measurements it may take from a couple days up to 2 weeks to complete, depending on how many other orders I have lined up. I'll do my best to get it to you ASAP, just keep in mind that all my designs are made with my own two hands, so a little time is necessary ;)

Elastic Harness - Black with silver buckles - S/M

IMPORTANT: The orignal vintage buckle stash that I used for this design has finally run out. I've searched high and low and finally found a replacement buckle I'm happy with. This new buckle has a shiny antique nickel finish (buckle is steel) and a unique ball clasp closure. I've never seen a buckle like this before and fell in love with it's sturdiness and uniqueness. I hope you all love it as much as I do! Please see image #5 for an image of this new buckle.

Collaborative efforts are a thing of beauty!

This little number came to be when a girl named Michelle Yue e-mailed me after seeing my Cage Skirt design on StyleBubble, and wondered if I could do a cage type top. I suggested the addition of chains to the original concept, we e-mailed back and forth and some sketches were thrown around, and well, this is the end result. I think it is fan-frickin-tastic! Way to go Michelle, way to go me!

As you can see the harness is a combo of handmade fabric taping, silver tone chain, and black zippers with silver tone metal teeth. This skirt is one of those pieces for me, I'm sooo happy with it! All the fringe is handcut, the nature of jersey fabric stops the fringe from fraying and falling apart, even though the edges are raw. The waistband is a heavy duty 2" wide elastic in black.

Feather Fringe Necklace - Gold/Black

On a recent shopping trip to one of my favorite trim stores I found this AMAZING feather trim! I was pumped, I'd been looking for something like this for so long, now I could finally make the feathered necklace of my dreams!

After a recent chain shopping binge I was fully stocked up with new chains as well, so I decided that if I was going to make an over the top feathered necklace, I may as well make it REALLY over the top and do a 5 strand mixed chain necklace as the base.

The chain is a soft gold colour, although it is not real gold. There are 4 different styles of chain included in this necklace, of various contents. The largest chunky chain is aluminum, which helps prevent this piece from weighing a ton. The other chains are either brass or steel with a gold finish. The multiple chains are joined together at the back with a great sliding latch that locks in place, making the chains nice and secure. I have hand stitched the feather trim with matching thread along the lowest hanging chain, so it is very secure.

Overall the necklace is quite durable, however the feathers themselves are fairly delicate, and you should avoid getting them wet, or layering heavy garments on them for long periods of time. If they do happen to get bent out of shape a light blast of steam from either the iron (held 3-5" away from the feathers) or a steamy 20min. hanging in the washroom while you're showering will help you bring them back to life.

The first verison of this necklace I made was a one of a kind piece using a vintage necklace as the base, however after receiving a lot of interest in it I decided to track down some new chain and start making them from scratch. Luxe Collection Leggings - Black Banded Lace

These leggings are part of my "Luxe" collection of leggings, which are all made from special luxe fabric

The entire collection is made up of stretch fabrics in lace, burnout velvet, fancy printed modals and basically any over the top fabrics I can find. This particular fabric is a great banded lace. I love the striped effect it creates and the mish mash of different lace patterns. The fabric content is a nylon spandex blend and should be hand washed in cold water and hung or laid flat to dry

All the seams are overlocked for durability, the leg openings are finished with a stretch zig zag stitch, and the waistband is finished with a narrow lingerie elastic as well as zig zag stitch so the WB is nice and stretchy, yet will not lose its shape. The WB hits at around the belly button/true waist. I find that a regular rise looks so much more fresh than a low rise now, and also looks a lot better under most clothing, much more smooth!

Fringe Earrings - Long - Champagne and Gold

I'm such a pack-rat that I've been stashing away all the shorter pieces of fringe that are not quite big enough to be used for my fringe necklaces, and they've been slowly building up in a box for awhile now. So I decided I needed to come up with a project to use them up, and suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks: Earrings of course!

It took a little while to find the perfect metal pieces with the right shapes and size to make the earrings special, but when I found the little metal chain tassels I knew my search was over.

This particular pair of earrings is the long version of my fringe earrings and combines gold tone (not real gold) metal details with Champagne coloured fringe. The fringe is 9 1/2" long and the entire earring hangs 11" from the ear lobe. The sides of the fringe strip are fused so the fringe will not fall apart/fray. The Leather Cage Skirt - Custom Order

It's finally here, the Leather Cage skirt! This piece is a collaboration between myself and Marc Simard of http://www.broundoor.etsy.com Marc has been working with leather for over 3 years and is a good friend of mine, so I thought he was the perfect person to go to when I decided I wanted to create a leather version of the cage skirt.

Marc uses only recycled and off-cut leather in his work, believing that instead of excess, unused leather from large manufacturers going into landfills, it could be used in small-scale, artisanal manufacturing. Because of the way the leather is sourced, colours are very limited so we will be adding new colour options often. Sometimes there is only enough of a certain colour to make 1 or 2 skirts!

We first made this skirt for Susie of www.stylebubble.typepad.com (check of the lovely girl herself in image 1) in the dusty pink colour. We're currently launching this skirt in a few different leather options (see image 5) and will be launching three limited edition colours this October at Topshop Oxford Circus as part of their fall EDIT concession (read about last seasons here: http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2009/01/departmentising.html )

Made of sturdy medium weight leather and held together with steel rivets, the rigidity of this skirt makes it perfect for someone who likes to get creative with their layering and mix hard and soft textures together.

The skirt closes at the front with a metal teeth zipper and a tab/snap closure at the waist. The taping of the zipper will match whatever leather colour you choose to go with.

Your custom skirt will be made to your own personal waist & hip measurements, the length of the skirt will be standard at 17". Since this item is custom made to your measurements it may take from a couple days up to 3 weeks to complete, depending on Marcs workload. We'll do our best to get it to you ASAP, just keep in mind that this piece is made by hand just for you, so a little time is necessary ;)

Luxe Collection Leggings - Tie Dye Mesh

These leggings are part of my "Luxe" collection of leggings, which are all made from special luxe fabrics.

This particular fabric is a super soft lightweight mesh, with a gorgeous neutral toned tie dye design. I absolutely LOVE the feel and look of this fabric, a pair of these beauties is definitely going to find their way into my own closet. Please note that the tie dye pattern is random, so the exact placement of the pattern will vary on each pair, which is kind of awesome, each pair will be totally unique!

The fabric content is a nylon spandex blend, so these have a lot of stretch, but remain super soft and will not get all stretched out as you wear them. These tights should be hand washed in cold water and hung to dry in order to prevent snags.

Luxe Collection Leggings - Black Lace and Sequins - Full length

These leggings are part of my "Luxe" collection of leggings, which are all made from special luxe fabric, that are teetering on the edge of tackiness. Put it this way; I wouldn't want a whole outfit in most of these fabrics, but for some reason they look so fresh as tights. Go figure, I love them!

The entire collection will be made up of stretch fabrics in lace, burnout velvet, fancy printed modals and basically any over the top fabrics I can find. This particular fabric reigns supreme in its over the topness. You've got stretch lace in an amazing wavy pattern, you've got tiny fairy dust sparkles, then you've also got glued on paillette style sequins. The fabric content is a nylon spandex blend, so these have a lot of stretch. These tights should be hand washed in cold water, and hung to dry since they sequins make them quite delicate.

Panelled Leggings - Heather Grey and Frosty Floral

These leggings are part of a new collection of panelled leggings, which are all made from a combo of two or more fabrics.

This particular pair is the second in the series, a sporty meets pretty combo of heather grey and floral. Both fabrics are nylon/polyester/spandex blends, however the heather grey fabric is thicker and more solid than the floral, which has more of a heavy mesh feeling. These tights should be hand washed in warm water or machine washed on the delicate setting, then hung to dry.

I decided to take the idea of my basic fringe necklace, and turn up the fringe dial to "maximum". I love how this piece came out, and will no doubt be doing further maxed out fringe necklace experiments.

The first version of this necklace I made was a one of a kind piece using a vintage necklace as the base, however after receiving a lot of interest in it I decided to track down some new chain and start making them from scratch. Now I'm doing them up in all sorts of colour combos, in both gold tone and silver tone chain. It's a real mash up of things I love, it truly is.

The chain on this necklace is a soft gold colour, although it is not real gold. There are 4 different styles of chain included in this necklace, of various contents. The largest chunky chain is aluminum with a gold tone finish, which helps prevent this piece from weighing a ton. The other chains are either brass or steel with a gold tone finish. The multiple chains are joined together at the back with a great sliding latch that locks in place, making the chains nice and secure. I have hand stitched the fringe with matching thread along the lowest hanging chain, so it is very secure. Go ahead, wear this necklace out dancing! You may get fringe stuck all over your sweaty neck, but damn, you'll look amazing!

The Cage Skirt - Custom Order, any size, any colour

This skirt is inspired by a few different high-end designers who have made various versions of "cage" inspired clothing. You may be thinking, "a skirt that's a cage how the heck do you wear it?!". Well, I think this is one of those pieces that is more of an accessory than an actual garment.

You could layer it over skinny jeans, tights or a skirt, or pair it up with a frothy frilly dress and play with contrast a bit. As you can see by the outfits put together by the many lovely bloggers pictured, this piece could be worn in sooooo many ways. It's perfect for someone who likes to challenge fashion conventions a bit, and likes to get creative with their layering.

The skirt is made of hand cut seam binding, pressed and stitched closed along all edges. The strips are stitched together at each joint, and two metal studs can also been added to each joint (this tends to show up better on the solid colours, not so much on the florals/patterns). Each metal stud is applied by hand with needle nosed pliers with a special technique to avoid scratching the studs. It's very time consuming, but worth it! The skirt closes at the front with a chunky metal teeth zipper and a tab/button closure at the waist.

Road Warrior Harness - S/M

I found these amazingly curved black pads and immediately wanted to attach them to my shoulders. First I thought I would incorporate them into a dress design, but I wanted to make them more versatile, which is when I thought of the elastic harness. A bit of beaded fringe later, and I had somehow made the elastic harness into road warrior-esque body adornment. It's great for layering over all sorts of things, and can take a basic black dress from chic and simple to tough and modern.

The harness itself is made of a simple black elastic, with glossy black plastic clasps and a steel ring at the back. The shoulder pads are lighweight foam with a smooth poly/nylon covering. The beaded trim is attached with a zig zag stitch all the way around and is quite secure.

Since the harness is made of elastic it will fit quite a few people, however I'm calling this one a small/medium. The elastic measures 26" around the ribcage, unstretched, and will stretch comfortably up to 30". If you need the fit to be tighter, let me know as this is a fairly easy adjustment to make. If you need a larger size shoot me a convo, I'm always open to making custom sizes, equal fashion for all!

Not only do these babies save your modesty, they also add a pop of pattern and colour to your outfit in an unexpected way. Be prepared for a lot of people to say "Are you wearing....bike shorts?!?" To which you will reply "of course!" and then either speed away on your bike, popping a wheelie as you go, or prance down the street, stopping at the corner to do a cartwheel. Either way, you're now totally covered.

This particular fabric has a great floral with with a whole slew of frosty pretty colours in it, and is a very lightweight poly-crepe (sort of like a mesh, but not as sheer). These shorts should either be hand washed in warm water and hung to dry, or washed inside out on the delicate setting and hung to dry. This will prevent pulls in the lightweight fabric.

I'm such a pack-rat that I've been stashing away all the shorter pieces of fringe that are not quite big enough to be used for my fringe necklaces, and they've been slowly building up in a box for awhile now. So I decided I needed to come up with a project to use them up, and suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks: Earrings of course!

It took a little while to find the perfect metal pieces with the right shapes and size to make the earrings special, but when I found the little metal chain tassels I knew my search was over.

This particular pair of earrings is the medium version of my fringe earrings and combines gold tone (not real gold) metal details with black fringe. The fringe is 4" long and the entire earring hangs 5 1/2" from the ear lobe. The sides of the fringe strip are fused so the fringe will not fall apart/fray.

Please note that the earrings modeled in the photo are not the earrings that will be mailed to you. Your earrings will be made to order for you and you alone :)

Finally, the black version of my basic fringe necklace...

I've had the champagne coloured one in stock for awhile, and I think it's HIGH TIME I added the black version to my Etsy shop! I've been seeing a lot of fringe details here, there, and everywhere lately and thought this would be a nice and simple way for people to add a bit of fringe to their wardrobe.

The chain is antique silver coloured, although it is not real silver. The back closes with a silver toned oversized lobster clasp. The chain is 16" long, and the fringe is 4" long. I have hand stitched the chain along the top of the fringe with matching thread, so it is very secure. Go ahead, wear this necklace out dancing! Luxe Collection Leggings - Beige Tie Dye Jersey

These leggings are part of my "Luxe" collection of leggings, which are all made from special luxe fabrics.

This particular fabric is a super soft cotton spandex, with a neutral toned tie dye design. This fabric is super stretchy and incredibly soft! Please note that the tie dye pattern is random, so the exact placement of the pattern will vary on each pair, which is kind of awesome, each pair will be totally unique!

The fabric content is a cotton spandex blend, so these have a lot of stretch and are super soft. These tights can be machine washed in cold water and hung to dry in order to prevent shrinkage and pilling.

All the seams are overlocked for durability, the leg openings are finished with a stretch zig zag stitch, and the waistband is finished with a narrow lingerie elastic as well as zig zag stitch so the WB is nice and stretchy, yet will not lose its shape. The WB hits at around the belly button/true waist. I find that a regular rise looks so much more fresh now and looks a lot better than a low rise under most clothing, much more smooth.

For now this item will be made to order, and is available in the following sizes:
S - fits 24-26 waist, 34-36 hip
M - fits 27-30 waist, 37-39 hip
L - fits 31-34 waist, 40-43 hip

The inseam for all sizes is 34", let me know if you need a different length, it's no problem to change!
