Based on one of my favorites classic Hitchcock movies.
If you are not familiar with the movie, it's one of those that I can and watch over and over. Classic Hitchcock.

I took one of my favorites scenes in which MELANIE DANIELS played by Tippi Hedren is sitting on a bench in front of the school house play yard. The school children are singing and the sound of the voices is coming from the school house. We watch Melanie light a cigarette while waiting (she is there to pick up Cathy) and we also see what is happening behind her. Of course she is oblivious. While we anxiously see birds accumulating in silence behind her, more and more birds, black crows, Melanie looks to the left, to the right, smoking just waiting, the singing children make for an eery athomosphere.

Eventually Melanie spots a lone bird in the sky and her eyes follow it and eventually her head follows it she turns and follows it landing on the playground. This is what the painting was inspired by.

The children still sing an the song is coming to an end

I asked my wife to wash the floor.

Melanie suddenly sees hundred of birds covering the playground. Horrified she slowly gets up...

I took the scenes of her watching the lone bird and painted this piece.

The objective is to be loose and painterly. After establishing the ink lines I use watercolor to create darks and light, I work in layers. There is no erasing whatsoever, so everything even inks droplets that may fall are part of the art. Incidentals like ink drops are some of my favorite parts. Finally I add more ink lines to enhance certain areas in the painting. I then sign in ink and voila!"

About Giclee Printing

The Definition : Giclee (zhee-klay) - The French word "giclée" is a feminine noun that means a spray or a spurt of liquid. The word may have been derived from the French verb "gicler" meaning "to squirt".

The Term : The term "giclee print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.

The Process : Giclee prints are created typically using professional 8-Color to 12-Color ink-jet printers. Among the manufacturers of these printers are vanguards such as Epson, MacDermid Colorspan, & Hewlett-Packard. These modern technology printers are capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets. Giclee prints are sometimes mistakenly referred to as Iris prints, which are 4-Color ink-jet prints from a printer pioneered in the late 1970s by Iris Graphics.

The Advantages : Giclee prints are advantageous to artists who do not find it feasible to mass produce their work, but want to reproduce their art as needed, or on-demand. Once an image is digitally archived, additional reproductions can be made with minimal effort and reasonable cost. The prohibitive up-front cost of mass production for an edition is eliminated. Archived files will not deteriorate in quality as negatives and film inherently do. Another tremendous advantage of giclee printing is that digital images can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various media, giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific client.

The Quality : The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.

A word to how I create my watercolor & ink paintings: "I first do most of the ink work. I do not pre draw anything. I go straight to work with various nib sizes and dipping ink. The objective is to be loose and painterly. After establishing the ink lines I use watercolor to create darks and light, I work in layers. There is no erasing whatsoever, so everything even inks droplets that may fall are part of the art. Incidentals like ink drops are some of my favorite parts. Finally I add more ink lines to enhance certain areas in the painting. I then sign in ink and voila!"

"Bunny" Tushie Bear has black bead eyes and some embroidery on the face and is seven inches tall.

My Tushie Bears came about when I made of my my bears and when I got to his bottom I though he ought to have some cheeks.
How else could it sit comfortably. After all isn't a Tushie a permanent pillow we carry around. After I made my first bear with a Tushie, I got many positive remarks about him and his Tushie, that I decided to make more of them.

I started to make a series of Tushie bears, not all of them are "Bears" but that is what I call the series. They all have their own unique tush.

They are all hand felted from Merino wool, no fillers or short cuts. I use one felting needle at the time and the process is time consuming, but the result are charming.

I do not use patterns!
I start with a general idea and color I want to work with.
I start with a vision of if the body, long or round, skinny or chubby.

As I continue to felt, the character emerges in my imagination and materializes under my needle.
The personality develops more and more as I keep felting.

In needle felting you have control over how firm or soft your character is. You can have firm parts and softer parts. It all depends on how often and how many times you stab an area. As you stab with your barbed needle the fibers become inter logged and the area becomes denser. This character here is somewhat softer then some of my other characters.

Bunny's outside is soft while the inside is firm, for a nice Bunny feel.

"The Count Wallrabenstein"

Condition: New

Every part of "The Count" was created by hand, by me. He is about 16 tall, 15 inches deep & 13 inches wide. I started out by giving him a body, arms and a neck, using wire, wood, an empty container that I filled with sand and sealed shut with cement. His body weights about 10 pounds and makes him sit firmly in place where ever you put him. The count is inspired by my love for Ravens. My grandmother was a born "Wallrabenstein" and her crest is part of this doll. He is holding a handmade card with the crest.
The Wallrabenstein Family crest has three ravens perching on three towers of the Wallrabenstein castle. It's ruins are still there in Germany, Idstein im Taunus.

His elaborate garment is made from gold dupioni silk and fully hand sewn. All his clothing and embellishments are sewn on to his body. The necklace is hand made with elements I molded from paper clay, I used various yarns and fabrics to make this doll as amazing as possible.

His head is affixed with epoxy and sits firm in place.
Please look at all the detail images.

wonderful draping in the back. All folds, drapes and detail is sewn on by hand and will stay in place.

The fuzzy mohair is synthetic. All my other bears and animals are made of Naturals Hembold Mohair.
She is filled with ployfill and additional steel beads to give her weight.

She feels great in your arms. She wears a red sweater that is sewn to her body. Her Ginette Creations label is on the bottom of her foot. I recommend spot clean only.

She is 18 inches tall and at her hips 12 inches wide.
The last photo shows some of my other dolls as well.

Handmade Pretty Ugly Adorable Handsewn Doll by Ginette Callaway

I started with a fabric that I had for a while and I was just waiting for the perfect way to use it.

I wanted to make a heart shaped doll.

Her body is shaped like a heart and she is embellished with heart details. She pressed her hands against her chest as if saying "I Love you Dearly!"

Her face is all hand stitched, her hair is soft, off white yarn that is bundled in the back and tied with a tulle bow in the back. She also has a small red bow at the top. She is all about love.

Bijou - Coeur weights about one pound. Sitting she is about 12 inches tall. Her legs and arms are fixed in to the position you see in the picture.
She is soft and squeezable.
She is filled with polyester fiberfill that is especially for dolls. She will come to you with a certificate of Authenticity. It will include a picture of the doll,
fabric swatches, her name, date of birth and my signature.

She comes with her own jewelry. A pink faux diamond pendant and necklace and she has her own red velvet pillow with tassels. All hand sewn.

Her body is made of cloth. She is filled with Polyfill especially for dolls. Her dress is handmade from a reproduction vintage fabric. Her eyes are German Glass eyes. Her nose is embroidered and also needle felted. Her mouth is needle felted so are her paws.

She stands on a wood base.
She has a wood spine. Her arms are movable and have wire inside. Her head is fixed. She comes with a hat and handkerchief. She is unique OOAK and definitely not your average bear. Questions are welcome.
