Here it is! Everything you always wanted to know about making your own home decor accessories, but didn't know where to look!
The Home Guide was published in New York in 1978. This is a First Edition cloth covered copy and it's still protected from harm in it's original vinyl library sleeve, it's dust jacket is just lightly rubbed on the very bottom. This is a large volume: 7 1/2" x 10" with 163 pages of tons and tons of easy to follow illustrations for every kind of project you can think of from the simple to very advanced. There are 4 pages of color photos. Most of the pages are detailed illustrations and templates. Very very cool stuff.

The screaming bright colors in this big 8" x 11" classic Baby Shortcake book from the Eighties are hard to describe so I'll let the pictures do the talking for me.
This very very retro volume is in like-new condition with no crayon scribbles, folded pages or grubby fingerprints on it anywhere.
It's like Grandma put it away for a child's present and forgot all about it.

I found this in my Mom's attic when she moved last year.
My daughter would never have left it this nice.

These guys have seen some party action in their days and are a bit scruffy around the edges. I find the battle scars endearing.

Check out this adorable and easy to make little girl's vintage pattern from 1979! It's McCall's Pattern 6690.

Jumper and overalls have part-way lined front, buttoned shoulder straps, front insets with elastic in casings that form side pockets. Appliques and patch pockets are optional and the Appliques are missing. Overalls in example C have elastic in the ankle casings. Just the cutest separates ever!

Cupid And The Man On The Moon Amazing Victorian Element For Assemblage Or Mixed Media

This fantasy storybook solid Pewter casting of Cupid tickling the Man On The Moon's Nose has got to be the coolest thing I've ever seen!

I can't tell you what it's original use might have been...It's pretty heavy for its size and measures 4 1/2" x 5"... perhaps it was once a Victorian garden ornament of some sort. It has 2 tabs on the back side for slender rods to slip into. Long before I found this piece, the tips of the Moon had long ago broken off, but honestly it's barely noticeable since both breaks are uniform.
The fussy tiny details of this unique casting are absolutely delightful! I just love the naughty impish expression on Cupid's face best of all.
Cupid And The Man On The Moon are really old and have been hanging around my kitchen for a very very long time. I believe it's now time for some brilliant artist to fabricate this pair into something really amazing.

1990 Meet Mister Quagga. A Reproduction Hand Colored Engraving From 1796

Meet 'Eques Quagga,' a now extinct member of the zebra family once native to the plains of Southern Africa.
The original of this painting is displayed In The Museum Of Natural History in Paris.
This is a splendid new page, printed in 1990, reproducing the very early hand colored drawing by by Charles Werner From E.G. Saint Hilaire and G. F. Cuvier's " Histoire Naturelle des Mammiferes" from 1824. It came from a big natural history book of mammals with a broken spine and I rescued these luscious quality plates just for you.There are a couple of small dark spots in the field that I'm not certain are original to the painting or not... just thought I would mention it.

The paper itself is heavy stock & has a lovely gentle sheen and measures large 10" x 14" The image itself is aprox. 8" x 12 1/2" and in good condition with no tears, folds, creases or marks... a fabulous print. There are a couple of small dark spots in the field that I'm not certain are original to the painting or not... just thought I would mention it.

Every so often, my photocopier makes lines on my scans before I download them to list here. Rest assured that since yours is the original print, there will be no weird lines on your copy.

1882 A Mother's Love. A Beautiful Victorian Steel Engraving

"The Mother" was harvested from a forlorn copy of a very strange book of Victorian Ethics and Principals 1882.

This beautifully detailed steel engraving is one of seven in a series based on the passages of life. It's still crisp with nice square corners and has some foxing spots that are the most noticeable in the cream border.It's still covered in it's original vellum paper. Considering the fact that it's 127 years old I'd have to say it's in lovely condition!

Here's what the Eastern Star Ladies have to Say:

The real origin of the Order of the Eastern Star, like Masonry, will always be shrouded in mystery. Many researchers believe it had a French origin as early as 1703. By some, this is claimed to be the first inception of "Female Masonry" or "Androgynous Degrees" -- (degrees for both men and women).

There appeared at this time, to be a demand for "Side Degrees" or Degrees conferred on ladies, and quite a list sprang up -- "Heroines of Jericho", "Danger in the Dark", "Tall Cedars of Lebanon", etc. These were extensively used but soon fell into decay for lack of lasting worth.

As to the real origin of the Eastern Star degrees in its Initiatory form, there is not the least shadow of doubt that the honor belongs to Dr. Rob Morris and its real origin comes under the First Era.

Dr. Morris had traveled many years and had written many books on Masonry which are valued references in many Masonic Libraries.

Never quite satisfied that all the good in Masonry should be confined to men, Dr. Morris felt that Masonry should be for the whole family, but by the laws of that Ancient Order, women are not eligible for its degrees. Knowing he could not change the Ancient Landmarks of Masonry, Dr. Morris sought some method by which women could share with the Masonic Brother the same inspiration that "prompts man to noble deeds."

Although he harbored these feelings for years, it wasn't until 1850, while confined to his home after an accident, that Dr. Morris fully developed the Eastern Star Degrees in their present initiatory form.

During this time, he carefully thought out the symbolism and significance of the floor plan and the corps of officers. He conferred the degrees upon his wife and daughters, and some neighbors, presumably having an idea to clothe the ladies with certain words or signs whereby they might make themselves known to Master Masons.

These signs and so-called mysteries of the Order were communicated freely to all Master Masons and their relatives. Dr. Morris and other prominent Master Masons gave many lectures and conferred the degrees on many ladies throughout the nation.

Harvested from a long ago forgotten book of wildflowers from 1926, we're proud to present this lovely double sided watercolor print of 2 American Wildflower classics; The delightful Blacke-Eyed Susan and The stately and elegant wild Sunflower shown on the reverse side.
This gorgeous double sided vintage page measures 5 1/4" x 8." The lithograph itself measures 4 3/4" x 6 1/2"
It'll be a hard choice deciding which image to frame as both images are simply delightful. I like the idea of floating them between two pieces of glass so they can be flipped at whim for a change of scenery!

Gleaned from a fascinating health and fitness book from 1933, Can you imagine...? This print featuring a pretty woman's exposed shoulders and thighs must have been seriously racy stuff in it's day, such a very sharp contrast in comparison to just how far people had come in the American 1930s since the Victorian times.

Which came first, the crocodile or the egg?

This fantastic illustration from 1887 was harvested from a superb collection of quality antique images of childhood from a time long gone by.
The children's book that this wonderful steel engraving came from was found at an antique bookseller's sale long ago carefully stored in a cardboard box, both covers long ago gone missing. I've been holding on to this collection long enough to know that I won't ever get around to framing them, so I'm offering them here to you.

'Eggs Of Birds Reptiles And Fish' is in smooth condition with sharp edges and has a lovely soft and even light tanning and the usual spots one find on paper that's 140 years old. After matting, the bent corners are gone and the image itself is lovely. This cool print just screams "Frame Me!"

Designed By Homer Laughlin for Country Service Corp of Alliance Ohio starting in the late 1950s and into the early 1960s, this lovely sunny yellow Semi-Vitreous China pattern graced the tables of the more affluent Americans during the Ike and JFK era.
With is wide band of sunny yellow over a bright white under-body, this stylized wheat pattern with it's charming accents of real 22k gold, Autumn Gold broke the stuffy formal mold of conventional standard china patterns and began a new era of exciting new colors and designs.

Highly prized by collectors of fine vintage china, Autumn Gold is still a desirable sought-after pattern today. It is very rare indeed to find pieces in such excellent condition as these sweet little side dishes in lovely Mint condition.

This amazing print measures 8 1/2" x 6 1/4." The plate itself is 8 1/2" x 11." It's simply a gorgeous quality illustration featuring the masterwork of renown children's illustrator and artist; Charles Robinson.
Robinson was a popular book illustrator prominent during the so called "Golden Age of Illustration" (the first quarter or so of the twentieth century).

This reprint from 1976 is done on heavy grade paper and has a lovely soft sheen. This is a replica of the 1919 original and is simply stunning.

Vintage hankies are so handy! Perfect for good cry, a good honk or quite useful for dropping at the feet of certain interesting looking handsome gentlemen.

This one's a true vintage beauty done in soft cotton candy pink with a big purpley-blue roses and green leaves in each corner and finished with a tidy rolled hem. It's a good sized hankie too... 12" square. Far larger than the normal 9" size I usually find. This one's crisp and like new and in terrific condition.

1882 The Departure Of The Prodigal Son. A Charming Steel Engraving

This beautifully detailed steel engraving is one of seven in a series of the passages of life. Considering the fact that it's 127 years old I'd have to say it's in lovely condition!

Great for serving your guests this Holiday season - this cool two tiered white platter set with green ivy design and handy-dandy brass handle will mix and match perfectly with other Royal China patterns... actually it'll go well with everything really.

The 8" bottom plate is round and decorated along the edge with dark green English Ivy leaves - hence the name of the pattern; ENGLISH IVY. Marked on the bottom: ROYAL CHINA L 55 ENGLISH IVY UNDERGLAZE.

This set is in very good condition - no chips, cracks, or repairs. It has a few very light scratches on the surface and some shelf wear on the bottom. The pattern is bright and intact.

The fabulous details in this gorgeous color, sharp as a tack lithograph from the turn of the 20th century in this opulent German nationalist study are simply amazing.
Printing of this quality and detail is a long lost art-form I'm afraid as Lithograph print making is an amazingly slow and time consuming process; far too costly to pay an artisan to do in these times.

A real lady always carries a fresh hankie with her at all times... it's in the rule book! You never know when you might need to wipe your naughty little fingerprints off of something that could get you in trouble later!
Vintage hankies are so handy! Perfect for good cry, a good honk or quite useful for dropping at the feet of certain interesting looking handsome gentlemen.

This one's a true vintage beauty done in soft pearl gray with a big bouquets of spring flowers in each corner in shades of baby blue, yellow, pink and green with scalloped sdges and a rolled hem. It's a good sized hankie too... 12 1/2" square. Far larger than the normal 9" size I usually find. This one's crisp and like new and in terrific condition.

This Bad-Boy Is a BIG One! Measuring 2 1/4" x 3" of solid brass, this handmade buckle is made for serious business!
I'm taking a crack at the age of this piece at about the 1960s, as that's about the time the farm they came from stopped raising horses... could be older than that too... dunno.
This fab buckle would make a very cool belt buckle or as an interesting addition incorporated in a sculpture. I've left them tarnished so you can shine it up or leave it to mellow.

Sitting side by side before the blazing hearth of home sweet home, a young Victorian couple consider the journey of married life together and the road laid out before them.

"Trials Of Life" was harvested from a forlorn copy of a very strange book of Victorian Ethics and Principals 1882.

This beautifully detailed steel engraving is one of seven in a series of the passages of life. It's still crisp with nice square corners and has some foxing spots that are the most noticeable in the cream border.It's still covered in it's original vellum paper. Considering the fact that it's 127 years old I'd have to say it's in lovely condition!

This very cool former library book explains birthday traditions in 24 different cultures through a series of gorgeous woodblock prints, poems, new vocabulary words and charming stories.
Expected library markings, including the library card and envelope still in the back. It looks like it was only borrowed twice! Pages are crisp and just about perfect. Binding is tight and just like new. Two pages of text have been highlighted in yellow.
Published in New York by Rand McNally & Company in 1963. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. This is a First Edition. Ex-Library copy and measures 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 128 pages, including index. Dust jacket has gone missing long ago. Cover shows very little shelf-wear.
A very sweet book for the 3rd to 5th grade level.

Picture this stunning vintage china set at your next holiday gathering!
This lovely serving gravy boat and dry dock/under plate is made of delightful ivory colored fancy bone china with a band of lovely pink and blue Art Deco motif of stylized flowers with accents of deep amber and trimmed in real gold.
This lovely 7" long set must have spent most of it's past 90 years hanging around in somebody's Nana's China cabinet, because it shows very few signs of use. They certainly don't make them like these any more.
This pretty set matches a lovely deep vegetable bowl I have listed here, so please check it out of my Kitchen/Dinging category as well.

There isn't much that can compare with the shear user-friendliness of Simplicity patterns.
This mid Seventies pattern features the basic tunic style jacket with short or long sleeves and simple pull on flair bottom pants. It would be an excellent choice for a beginning seamstress.
It has been cut to the larger of the two sizes but it looks unused. Both the pattern and the envelope are in decent vintage condition.

This is a beautiful steel engraving from the turn of the 20th century. The minute details in this ornathologist's study are amazing.
Printing of this quality and detail is a long lost art-form, I'm afraid. The engraving of steel plates for printing is an amazingly slow and time consuming process. Far too costly to pay an artisan to do when there are modern cameras to do the job. Still, it seems a pity.
"Varieties Of Owls" is in wonderful condition, with crisp edges and corners with a lovely soft and even light tanning. Not too shabby at all for 103 year old paper!

What a beauty! This gorgeous fancy silver plated serving fork is 8 1/2" long and 1 3/4" across in nice but used condition. (21.59 x 4.45 cm) Made by Wm. Rogers in 1959 for International Silver.
I've left it in a dark unpolished state because I like the look of tarnished vintage silver, but you can polish it up to a shimmering moonlit gleam if you prefer.

1902 Handsome Perry Bishop Kinney A Very Serious Young Man.

Here's a Jim-dandy for you; all dressed up in his woolen three piece pinstripe suit with a white rosebud in his lapel for a very important event; his High School graduation from Wadsworth High School in Ohio in 1902.

This antique Cabinet Card is in nice condition and measures 5 3/4" x 8" It's named and dated on the back side: June 20, 1902

Mind you back in 1902, High School graduation was a pretty rare occurrence and in most families, the majority of kids were packed up and sent off to work in the factories and mills springing up all over the US while they were still in grade school. High School graduation was a silly fantasy beyond the reach of most common working class people.

Lucky Perry is another story.
Judging by his manor of dress and the fact that his family could afford the luxury of a professional studio siting, I can only assume young Perry Bishop Kinney came from money and privilege. He sure looks like a serious kind of guy. Good catch for some lucky girl no doubt.

I wonder whatever became of him.
Antique photos have always fascinated me.

You'll be humming with delight when you see this gorgeous antique cromo-lithograph from Germany in person!

The beautiful details in this gorgeous full color, sharp as a tack lithograph from the turn of the 20th century in this opulent naturalist's study are simply amazing.
Printing of this quality and detail is a long lost art-form I'm afraid.
Lithograph print making is an amazingly slow and time consuming process. Far too costly to pay an artisan to do in these times.
"1887 Hummingbirds/ Kolibris" is in glorious perfect condition, captured in soft earth-tone colors and highlighted in amazing jewel tone colors, all done in the most costly chromium inks available back in the day. This litho is smooth and flat with crisp edges and corners and almost no tanning at all... remarkable condition for 122 year old paper!
This hand painted, full color illustration measures a big 12" x 9 1/2" with a fold down the center as it was issued and is the Real Deal... not a scanned photocopy or a download.
