I just love boulder opals! They are from New South Wales and a thin slice of opal set on a slab of ironstone. Durable and really beautiful!

This necklace combines 4 boulder opal slabs with copper colored freshwater pearl sticks and other pearl shapes. I go for the wilder shapes and colors. So, this necklace came together after I drank my morning thermos of coffee. It is truly one of a kind, and shows off what you can do with stuff you find at flea markets and around the house.

It is black rubber tubing on memory wire, long enough that it wraps all around your neck and the tassels on the end become part of the necklace.
This one uses shibori dyed silk scraps from Carter Smith, who is a well known Boston artist. I also included several pieces of middle eastern tribal jewelry - a big coin inset with glass gems, chunks of old chain, an agate medallion, a turkoman button, turquoise, fish vertebrae, old african glass. The effect is tribal, messy and really fascinating to look at - really one of a kind.

So, when my thermos of coffee kicks in each morning is when I make these wonderful necklaces. They combine all kinds of stones, beads and found objects, using much of the tribal dance jewelry that I collect. They are strung on softflex wire, with black rubber tubing. I guarantee no one will have anything like this - Each necklace i make is different, and each bead and finding is different on each necklace.

This particular necklace uses african Millefiore mbeads, with Afghanistani and Pakistani tribal coins and Turkoman Buttons. you will also see Rock crystal, turquoise, bamboo coral dangles and a green lucite bead that looked right where I put it. A handmade paper base supports a three dimensional collage of found objects and precious stones. This one has turquoise,lapis,kyanite, old watch parts,mica, a foreign coin and a quartz crystal point that sticks out ( hence the Fear of Intimacy name). This part is the necklace clasp. It joins with quartz crystal, turquoise, paua shell and recycled chain. More chain segments are made of bent nails. This piece is 19 to 21 inches long and fits comfortably around your neck. The clasp is a brooch made of handmade paper with a three dimensional collage of mixed gems and found objects. I used copper, citrine, amber, and a huge phantom crystal* that sticks out 1 1/2 inches ( Hence the Fear of Intimacy title). The rest of the necklace is hand forged chain, recycled chain, and best of all, chain made from bent nails. I also used rock crystal,lava rock,amber, fairy cross stone, amber, copper and other stones. This necklace is from 19 to 21 inches long, adjustable at the clasp.
*a phantom crystal is a rare quartz point with a grey shadow of another crystal inside it. It makes this special necklace eeven more unique.
