I designed these hammered, sterling silver earrings as a tribute to my daughter-in-law, who delivered the first baby girl in my husband's family for nearly a century! I would have designed them even if the baby was a boy; but I was especially prone to ♥Baby Brain♥ with the birth of a child of the female persuasion.

I made myself a pair, too; because, heck, I was kinda "with child" as well! (Even though that protrusion is NOT a baby bump...)

"With Child (Bright)" earrings are extremely lightweight, and about 1 1/2" long; the finish is shiny, polished silver. The wires are sterling, as well. I also have a listing for "With Child (Oxidized)" earrings, which are finished to a darker, antiqued patina.

The perfect gift for an expecting mom or grandma-to-be, "With Child" earrings are individually handmade; so each pair is unique.

I created this design for my friend, Peter; who wanted a silver bangle he "couldn't break." So I hauled out my heaviest sterling, torched the ends into strong, snakeheady finials; then hammered it and tumbled it for additional strength. Gave it some rounded angles and a heavy coat of oxidation, for drama. Peter gave it the thumbs up.

Then he told me that on Bali, where I first met Peter, the day I completed the bangle was Pagerwesi - pager=fence, wesi=iron. The day to fortify oneself against negative influences. How perfect! And I have several brave friends training right now for the IronGirl. Clearly, the universe wants me to call this piece "Iron" something!

Because this bangle is open, it has a bit of flexibility. Easy on, easy off. And a little "wiggle room" for my bangle-breaking friend...

Please include your wrist measurement when you order your "Iron", so that I can build one just for you. Yours might look just the tiniest bit different from the photos, because it will be custom-made for your own personal wrist! (If you are "gifting" the "Iron", we can make a fair guess on size, and fine-tune after delivery, if necessary.)

Oh, how I love to make "Wiggles"! Torching, curling and hammering miles of sterling silver; never knowing exactly what I'll crank out. Combining the heavily oxidized silver curlicues with gorgeous glass globes; resulting in moody-cool confections. What a way to spend a day!

Along with the oxidized sterling, this "Wiggles" bangle features icy, frosted, recycled Java glass from Indonesia. The beads have a watery-aqua cast. They are beautiful; and they are joined by a couple of Bali beads; so they don't get homesick. Everything mingles on a heavy, hammered silver bracelet.

This coppertone frame features a chunk of cast-off cola can; covered with cola-can curlycues and crumbs. And right smack on top, like a mega-magnifying glass, is a clear flat glass marble. (Who on earth would throw away a bag of perfectly serviceable flat glass marbles? It was so my lucky day when I found them. If I knew how, I would have played the lottery.)

The cord is brown leather with a silvertone clasp. It is 18 inches long.

It was the middle of winter, and I craved warmth. Wanted to stop shivering in the studio. Oh, if only the lavender hyacinths outside the slider would poke through the cold, hard ground...I would have hope that summer was on the way. But, no shoots, no sprouts.

So I made my own. Pale green new jade, green java glass and gorgeous lavender and green lampwork. Miles and miles of curled and curved and hammered and twisted sterling silver.

Did your parents put you in charge of the tinsel? So many rules...one strand at a time. Don't THROW the tinsel. (There goes all the fun!!!) Don't let the cat eat the tinsel. Sorry, I won't go there, but you can imagine. Even if you've never had a cat.

If I could take one tinsel strand at a time and coil it into a pair of earrings, it would look something like this. Truth be told, hammering and coiling the silver is easier than making sure that I decorated the tree correctly; according to the pickypickyparentals.

But, just barely.

Mermaid

It was just an ordinary day at the beach, until I saw the Mermaid. Way off in the distance...just some whitecaps at first, then a flash of shimmery green tail fin. All of a sudden, she broke the surface of the water; so gracefully. Just like Esther Williams without a bathing cap. And then she was gone, in a splash of pearly droplets.

I challenged myself to commemorate the event with this one-of-a-kind sterling silver bracelet. It is made of a single strand of sterling silver wire; diving and bobbing amongst the most beautiful pearly green, white and champagne glass beads. The bracelet is so comfortable and light to wear. It has a springy quality about it, almost as if it is floating atop the whitecaps.

Because "Mermaid" is made of one continuous strand of sterling, it cannot be re-sized. It will comfortably fit an average wrist of 6 to 6 1/2 inches. If your wrist is not "average," let me know your measurement; and we can create a "Mermaid" just for you.

Jellyfish - Amethyst

I have a giant jellyfish light fixture; it's gorgeous blown glass, with tentacles. Like the ones at Farallon Restaurant, in San Francisco; or like a Dale Chihuly Sculpture Lite.

I was torching stuff the other day, and made a series of little curlycues with tiny balls at the ends...looked over at
my collection of "special" glass beads, simultaneously wished I was in SF. And ended up with a whole family of Jellyfish!

These delicate amethyst siblings measure about 1 1/2" long. The wires are sterling; the dangles are fine silver. They jiggle and wiggle; and just might make you giggle.

A slab of snowy turf, with just the tops of the pines peeking through. Swirly arctic blasts whipping the pine needles into chilly frenzy. This necklace makes me want to book a flight to Jackson Hole. To sip hot toddies in the hot tub. I don't ski.

The pendant is about 1" x 1 1/2". The sterling silver swirl is topped with a silvery, embossed bead. The whole shebang is suspended from a delicate 16" black leather cord, with a silvered lobster clasp.

So I had a big ol' order of Starrys to finish. I went down into the studio, turned on the radio, grabbed some silver, and started making...A Fish. I have no idea where that fish came from.

He's hammered sterling, and about two inches long. For whatever reason, he has a silver swirl in his belly, and it is adorned with the sparkliest antique blue Aurora Borealis crystal. He hangs on an 18" long collection of black ribbon and cords, with silvery findings and a lobster clasp. Because he is made in two parts, he will dance when you do.

Maybe you need "One Fish"; or you know someone who does. I just hope he finds a good home.

Let me know if you'd prefer a different colored crystal on your Fish. I have lots of colors to choose from.

I don't know whether it's the constant procession of tropical storms and hurricanes, but I dream crashing waves; and they're crashing around in my studio, too. (Not really surprising - my mind is often at the beach when it should be focused on the cat food aisle of the grocery store instead.)

This unusual, hammered sterling silver bangle features the clasp as a focal point. You simply squeeze the bracelet to fasten and release the clasp. (I know. Because once I invented it I openedandclosedandopenedandclosedand...well, you get the idea...for a very loooooong time before I got bored.)

The finish is an oxidized antique sterling silver patina, . I also have a listing for a shiny bright version; and the two of them look great together.

My husband and I were having lunch at our favorite Greek restaurant one Sunday; and a woman came in, dressed in her Sunday Best, sporting a gorgeous cross necklace made of colorful, chunky stones. I abandoned the really delicious hummus and pita to daydream about creating a similar design in mosaic. Well, until the Greek salad with grilled tiger shrimp showed up...

This "Sunday Best" is crafted from the most beautiful Murano glass millefiori pieces; in reds and whites, and some little glimmers of other colors. After arranging them in Sunday Style, I sprinkled the entire collage with tiny silver sparkles. The antiquey-silvertone frame measures just about 7/8" by 1 1/4". It is suspended from an 18" black ribbon cord.

My friend Penelope has a neighbor with a pet peacock. Not so weird, you say? Well, except that this peacock lives in town. In a dog house. He chases dogs. That is one Loopy Peacock!

And so is this can't-be-recreated bracelet! An antiqued, copper chain anchors a zillion copper loops, and an assortment of vintage and new peacock-colored beads. My favorites are the flat, teal rectangular ones, circa 1940, which were found (so I am told) in an abandoned warehouse in New York City! This beauty closes with a diamond-shaped, antiqued coppertone clasp.

Grandmas used to make "Crazy Quilts" with fabric odds-n-ends. They were fun and funky, smooth and bumpy; and more interesting to me than the quilts with perfect patterns.

I'm not the kind of grandma who could make a crazy quilt. Those needle eyes are so little; and I have such a time coercing thread through them. But these mosaics evoke the same feel to me...a riot of color and texture; and a whole lot of fun.

My mosaic slices are Murano, imported from Italy. They are all different sizes and patterns, and I have corralled them into antiqued coppery frames. The frames are just over 1/2 inches across, and fall from copper ear wires. I have added some silver sprinkles for fun, because THAT'S the kind of grandma I am. A sparkly one.

Sometimes it stinks to make jewelry. Because sometimes you make something that you really, really want to keep; but you have that entire drawer full of things that you really, really wanted to keep. And those things in that drawer are starting to breed, and your husband is not pleased.

But both the kids were born in April! On the same day, no less! And April is when the weather starts to be civilized, and those pale pink and green flower beads are so sweet, and...

Every single sterling silver link and jump ring and clasp in this 17" piece was hand forged and hammered, by me. The teeny focal flower was made by a glass artist who is long gone...and I've never encountered a bead like that since. When I finished this necklace, I just knew that a bit of oxidation would add the romantic polish I wanted; without looking too Lady Godiva or Pub Wench.

All in all, I love this piece; and if it doesn't go to a good home, it will go to my drawer of things that I really, really want to keep.

I have made quite a few TangleBangles in my day, but I have never been quite so enamored of a Tangle as I am of this one. I started it, I set it aside. I added to it, I set it aside.

I wasn't sure exactly where it was going.

Until last weekend.

Our rural homestead has been visited recently by hungry and thirsty armadillos, coyotes, foxes and turtles. Not to mention swarms of birds, armies of lizards and plagues of locusts. Because we have bird feeders, bird baths and peanuts in the shell. And it is dry, and hot, and the creatures are seeking relief in our always-full birdbaths and feeders.

The Wild Things provided the inspiration I needed. A dose of "earthy", a dose of "natural", some semi-precious agate, jasper and quartz; and heavy oxidation finished off this chunky hunk of sterling silver and stones. The drama of the Wild Things...with just a little tumble and polish.

I have favorites. This bracelet, an inch wide and utterly unique, adorned with dangles and swirls and infinite drama; is, without a doubt, one of my favorite creations. I will not conduct a background check before it goes to its "forever home". But I really want to.

Seaweed

My mind is pretty much always at the beach.

I love wandering the sands early in the morning, coffee in hand, perusing the flotsam and jetsam washed up overnight. I love poking that pile of seaweed, the kind that has the little bobbly ends on it, to see what might be tangled up inside.

So it's no surprise that the pile of seaweed was the first thing I thought of when I made this bobbly little pair of rings.

The squiggly set is made of fine silver, hammered into squarish shapes, and tumbled to a high shine. These rings can be worn alone, or together in several configurations. So you can play with them if you find yourself in a boring meeting. They are rustic, organic, unique and a little bit silly.

The pictured pair is a smallish size 5; although they have a bit of "give". They are really cute "pinky" rings. If you would like a different size, just let me know; and I will create "Seaweed" just for you!

First Frost

I have a very bad attitude about fall. Fall means winter is on the way, and I have an even worse attitude about winter. This is a problem because it prevents me from appreciating snow; which means I never go skiing, or sit in a hot tub with a hot toddy, or admire nature's winter finery, or check out Colorado ERs and their bone-setting skills.

It is a virtual avalanche of regret, and I have decided to improve my outlook by embracing my Inner Jacquie Frost; creating positive associations with cooler weather. A benefactor recently endowed me with a fabulous collection of gorgeous vintage crystal necklaces, and I could hardly wait to rip them apart to craft chilly new creations. This is my initial offering, First Frost; a medley of autumn tones, and a little sunlight reflecting off frozen droplets.

Most of the crystals are from the '40s and the '50s. The jeweled focal bead is a re-purposed clasp. They are all safely knotted together on bronze colored skinny saddle leather. The findings are sterling, and there are a few silver and goldtone Bali beads here and there for extra sparkle.

The three strands range in length from 17" to 23", and they nicely fill a neckline.

This is, perhaps, the lightest, most ethereal piece I have ever created. I shaped and hammered the sterling wire in my Outdoor Studio (the deck) and puzzled over a name while the scent of the sweet olives wafted gently here and there. Wafted. The scent was wafting. If I drew "wafting", it would look like this pendant. I added a vintage aurora borealis crystal for drama, and suspended it from a 16" skinny brown metallic leather cord. And "Wafting" was a done deal.

Measuring about 2" x 2", it would look great with a t-shirt and jeans, but it wouldn't mind a ballgown and the opera, either.

Zen is not a concept of which I have an intimate grasp. It conjures up visions of "Zen Gardens," where people use little rakes to etch pleasing patterns in sand piles, accentuated with smooth rocks. The closest thing to a Zen Garden in my house is the litter box.

But I am trying. I am deep-breathing and "ohming" as I type. And I am working on some serene adornments.

So last night we had a fire in our furnace, complete with fire trucks and gawking neighbors; and we can't get the part to fix the charred remains for 4 days. No furnace, no heat; and it's the middle of winter.

Is it any wonder I am making cold and edgy bracelets? Nothing warm and fuzzy here.

"Wound Up" is a cacophony of hammered pieces of copper; wound randomly onto an open copper bangle.. It is stark and metallic; but there IS that warmish copper glow about it...

I love natural copper because it changes over time; becoming darker and richer as you wear it. Of course, you can polish it; but why?

I don't like gloomy days. But they have one positive aspect - they are perfect for fusing silver. When it's sunny and beautiful outside, it is very hard for me to see the flame of my torch. It is also very hard for me to stay inside and work.

On a recent gloomy day I started fusing and hammering a fine silver bracelet. My intention was to make a simple linky thing. But the gloom didn't lift, and I kept on fusing. I love the result; and the little extraneous links that slide in and out of the big links. Perfect for fiddling when you have jury duty.

BTW, "fine silver" refers to the very-high silver content of the silver, 99.5%. Not to the "delicacy" of this piece; which is chunky and substantial. It's not heavy, though. It is comfortable, and happy to solo or to share a wrist with other creations.

Got Rocks

I was in the mood to make something cool and chunky; because I just got this oh-so-awesome super-heavy gunmetal rollo chain. (And because the ice maker broke. My muse is not amused, and keeps whispering to me to use parts that look like ice cubes.) I chose some of my very favorite tumbled quartz nuggets; and the result is "Got Rocks"!

This piece is a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG 50 inches of chic. It looks great as a thick single strand; and is just plain WOW! when doubled. The crystals feature all kids of interesting inclusions. In fact, I keep distracting myself from writing this description by noticing how interesting they are.

Crazy Quilt

Grandmas used to make "Crazy Quilts" with fabric odds-n-ends. They were fun and funky, smooth and bumpy; and more interesting to me than the quilts with perfect patterns.

I'm not the kind of grandma who could make a crazy quilt. Those needle eyes are so little; and I have such a time coercing thread through them. But this mosaic evokes the same feel to me...a riot of color and texture; and a whole lot of fun.

My mosaic slices are Murano, imported from Italy. They are all different sizes and patterns, and I have corralled them into an antiqued coppery frame. The frame is about 1 1/2 inches across, and I have embellished it with a little silvery-copper dangle. I have added some silver sprinkles for fun, because THAT'S the kind of grandma I am. A sparkly one. The neck cord is 18" of multi-strand, copper colored ribbon.

I've been a bit obsessed with oxidizing copper lately. I just love the gorgeous gunmetal blue-black patina I can create in the process.

I decided I wanted a bangle that combines this dark, dark finish, and a collection of one of my favorite embellishments, vintage clear and aurora borealis crystals.

I love to dance! Although the majority of my dancing finds me teaching aerobics in tights and a t-shirt, I daydream about sparkly, swirly dresses and strappy shoes; and a strapping dance partner to twirl me around. "ChaCha" is just the bracelet for that scenario!

I have no idea what caused this necklace. I was right in the middle of getting a large order together for a gallery when something - I'm not sure if it was lightning, or a power surge, or a hot flash - something told me to stop packing the Christmas tree bracelets and get some silver and start bending and hammering, and add one of those vintage German crystal beads while you're at it, then throw it into the antiquing solution for a few seconds.

This is what happened. It is about 1 1/4 inches tall, and about 1 1/2 inches wide. I looked at it, and it looked at me, and I thought to myself, "what an interesting twist on a pendant!" I decided to highlight its twistyness by suspending it from a very simple 16" bronzed leather cord.

And then I finished boxing the Christmas tree bracelets.

I've been getting so many custom requests for copper things, lately! As I finished one recently, I was marveling at the way cool-colored beads pop in contrast to copper's warmth; and this blue-eyed, red-headed confection just kind of...occurred.

The little multi-hued donut dangles are Turkish Evil Eye beads. They protect the wearer from Evil Eyes. So if Evil Eyes are on your list of day-to-day worries, this is the bracelet for you! Even if your life is relatively Evil Eye free, it doesn't hurt to have a little extra protection. These days, you just never know.

Like so many other students, I had to arrange my college career around "All My Children." Back in the day, before Simon pronounced singers "dreadful" and real people were summarily booted off desert islands, our idea of "entertainment" was to hear Phoebe English Tyler Wallingford - generally in an alcohol-induced frenzy - pass out "hussy"s and "harlot"s and "trollop"s to every female arrival to Pine Valley.

Admittedly, some of the newcomers reeked of Harlotness. A little over the top, a bit too brassy...oh, how we loved them.

"Harlot" is a SERIOUSLY over-the-top bangle, with enough sparkle to please Myrtle, or Opal or any of their cohorts. Having grown up in the south, I have participated in my share of Ambrosia Wars. Is it for holidays only (no!); or can you eat it, just for the heck of it, on June 21st (why not?) Fit for queen! Or, at the very least, a princess. I was so excited when I found these Czech dichroic glass beads at a recent bead show. I had never seen anything like them, and learned that they are a brand new product. I didn't even see them on a buying trip to New York just a few weeks ago! They practically glow. So last night we had a fire in our furnace, complete with fire trucks and gawking neighbors; and we can't get the part to fix the charred remains for 4 days. No furnace, no heat; and it's the middle of winter.

Is it any wonder I am making cold and edgy bracelets? Nothing warm and fuzzy here.

"Barbed Wire" is a confluence of twisted and hammered pieces of copper. It is stark and metallic; but there IS that warmish copper glow about it...and the curly self-clasp is just a little bit sweet.

Maybe a little too sweet.

So I subjected it to The Oxidizer. And, holy moly geez louise! It became the most gorgeous gunmetal color ever! I polished it to have highlights and lowlights, and it is more "Barbed Wire"-y than ever!

You might prefer natural copper, however. So I offer both options. Just let me know with a note in the "Message to Seller" box.

I love natural copper because it changes over time; becoming darker and richer as you wear it. Of course, you can polish it; but why?

"Barbed Wire" fits my 6", very average wrist perfectly. (Causing me to have a fair amount of discussion with myself about whether we can keep it even though we have a rather decent collection of our own designs.) It's a little bit "bendy" and has some "give," and I think it would be quite comfortable on a wrist a bit smaller or a little larger. But if YOUR wrist is no in the 5 3/4" to 6 1/2" range, I can create a "Barbed Wire" just for you...again, a note in the "Message to Seller" box with your wrist measurement, and I'll make one that's just right!

My husband and I were having lunch at our favorite Greek restaurant one Sunday; and a woman came in, dressed in her Sunday Best, sporting a gorgeous cross necklace made of colorful, chunky stones. I abandoned the really delicious hummus and pita to daydream about creating a similar design in mosaic. Well, until the Greek salad with grilled tiger shrimp showed up...

This "Sunday Best" is crafted from the most beautiful Murano glass millefiori pieces; in purples, periwinkles, greens and whites. After arranging them in Sunday Style, I sprinkled the entire collage with tiny silver sparkles. The antiquey-silvertone frame measures just about 7/8" by 1 1/4". It is suspended from an 18" purple ribbon cord.

Oh, how I love to make "Wiggles"! Torching, curling and hammering miles of sterling silver; never knowing exactly what I'll crank out. Combining the heavily oxidized silver curlicues with gorgeous glass globes; resulting in moody-cool confections. What a way to spend a day!

Along with the oxidized sterling, this "Wiggles" bangle features multicolored, mosaic recycled Java glass from Indonesia. The beads are cheerfully spotted; they are joined by a couple of Bali beads; so they don't get homesick. Everything mingles on a heavy, hammered silver bracelet.

This bangle is sized for an average 6" to 6 1/2" wrist. If your wrist is substantially larger or smaller, send me a note with your measurement, and I will make a "Wiggles" just for you!

Sunday Best - Gold and Blue

My husband and I were having lunch at our favorite Greek restaurant one Sunday; and a woman came in, dressed in her Sunday Best, sporting a gorgeous cross necklace made of colorful, chunky stones. I abandoned the really delicious hummus and pita to daydream about creating a similar design in mosaic. Well, until the Greek salad with grilled tiger shrimp showed up...

This "Sunday Best" is crafted from the most beautiful Murano glass millefiori pieces; in gold, blue and white. After arranging them in Sunday Style, I sprinkled the entire collage with tiny silver sparkles. The antiquey-silvertone frame measures just about 7/8" by 1 1/4". It is suspended from an 18" antique white ribbon cord.

If you would prefer to express your faith in different colors, just ask. I have a lovely collection of millefiori, in an entire rainbow of hues!

A friend showed me a photo of a necklace she admired. It was sterling silver loops and swirls, interspersed with BIG mother-of pearl beads. It was also VERY, very, pricey. She wondered if I could create something similar, yet budget-friendly; and, as it takes little convincing for me to get out the torch to melt metal, I got to work.

The original piece was pretty; but kinda, um, uninspired. I pulled out my fave "garlic pearls" and started twisting and fusing and tumbling fine silver. And ended up with this uber-organic chain. "Organic" contains A LOT of silver. Twisty and rustic and irregular, just like nature. Yet pearly, and refined. So pretty long, at 33 inches; but with a clasp so it can be doubled into a GORGEOUS choker.

Each "Organic" is made to order. It will not look exactly like the last one; oh no. It will be its very own special self. Happy to share a neckline with a long copper chain, or a strand of Barbara Bush pearls. But perfectly equipped to stand alone, as well.

I love this so much that I am making one for myself.

S*P*A*C*E J*U*N*K! has the most interesting focal bead. It looks like someone had a Space Picnic and tossed all the wadded up aluminum foil overboard. It is a Czech foil bead with issues. Not the typical, beautifully smooth and polished glass-encased foil bead; rather one with a dark side and a bright side. Just like the planets! And, maybe all of us!

The hammered sterling silver bangle has been lightly oxidized; and polished to a subtle shine. It sparkles with metallic silvers, grays, and even a bit of blue, purple and gold. It is lightweight and comfortable; and will easily fit an average 6" to 6 1/2" wrist. It stands rather tall due to the depth of the bead; so a larger wrist can be accommodated also. If you have a wrist that is not particularly average, please note your wrist measurement in the Message to Seller, and I will size it accordingly.

There are some genuine (I purchased them from the artists on Bali) Bali beads for contrast.

"Two Fish" are hammered sterling silver earrings. They dangle about 1 3/4 inches, and are made in two parts; so they dance when you do!

"Two Fish" have beautiful vintage crystals in their bellies.

The wires are sterling silver, also.

"Simply Blue" is, quite simply, a beautiful chunk of rustically imperfect bottle-blue glass, wrapped in a whisper of hammered silver foil; with a silvery swirl on top. The pendant is just a tad more than an inch square. It is suspended from an 18 inch multi-strand coordinating ribbon cord.

I always feel sorry for pansies in the snow...even though I know they can take it. But their pretty little colorful selves in drifts of brrr.....without even a scarf!

This bracelet features an encased flower bead, one of my very favorite designs. The artist first creates tiny glass flowers, then wraps them in a clear glass bubble. This particular bead features pinky-lavender, cobalt and turquoise flowers. It is suspended on a super-delicate bangle of hammered sterling silver, and secured with sterling silver beads and a twist of silver wire.

The clasp is easy to maneuver with one hand, and the finished piece is lightweight and comfortable; at home alone on your wrist or with other accessories.

"Frost on the Pansies" is designed for an average 6 to 6 1/2 inch wrist. If your wrist is not "average", I'm happy to make a "Frost on the Pansies" just for you. Simply leave me a message in the "Message to Seller" box, with your wrist measurement.
