Caution Cuff

This hard cuff has a funny story. While settling in New Mexico, I traveled back and forth from my home back East. On one such trip, I was stranded in the airport after a horrendous day of flying. Tired, I got onto the moving walkway to get to my next gate. With my head hung low, I stared at the ground while I was carried closer to my destination.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered how lovely the pattern was in the metal grates on the moving walkway! (Yes, how tired was I?) The result: my interpretation of those grooves as I struggled to stay awake. Complete with the yellow paint that edges either side of the walkway to insure you don't get your baggage wheels stuck.

When Eureka! hit me, I heard the disembodied, automated voice say, "Caution, the moving sidewalk is ending...."

I looked up and the rest is history.

This piece is comprised of Delica seed beads and pressed-glass daggers along the edge. It was stitched on a loom, then mounted onto a base-metal cuff and backed with black micro-suede. It measures approximately 2" wide and comfortably fits 6.5"-7.5" wrist.

Yurok Cuff

A new twist on an ancient design. This soft leather cuff was inspired by a traditional Native American motif of the Yurok Tribe in Northern California. Handwoven on a loom, the piece is finished with Swarovski crystal bicones and iris Miyuki rocailles.

Look closely at the design. I see a series of "little men" dancing around the band. What do you see?

The adjustable micro-suede cinch closure with beaded tension guide makes it a breeze to pop on your wrist before heading out the door (and of course, makes it a cinch to take off and show your friends!).

The loomed beadwork measures 6-1/2" x 1-1/4" and the finished cuff measures 6-3/4" x 1-1/2". It cinches snuggly around wrists 6-1/2" and up! Need a smaller one? Not a fan of "luster lime"? How about a matching pair? Just let me know!

Imagine a peyote-stitched bracelet using coordinating size 11 seed beads and size 11 bugle beads. The finished texture is reminiscent of chest plates worn by Native American warriors.

This supple piece measures 8" long (when fully opened) and closes comfortably to 7.5". It is 1" wide. The bracelet is secured with a ladder-stitched toggle made of the same bugle/seed beads as the bracelet.

The rich, smokey-burgundy shade is subtle, and the silky texture is calming. This piece feels as if it has its own special energy whenever it is worn.

I made this piece at the 2005 "Bead and Button" show in Milwaukee, WI. Go *Speed Racer*! This fun cuff is stitched with opaque black and transparent fuchsia Delica seed beads in a racing-strip design. The edges of the cuff are finished with gorgeous fuchsia Magatama drop beads with an AB finish. Between each drop bead is a tiny picot stitched of five Delicas.

The beadword is secured to metal cuff that is encased in a soft micro-suede backing.

Petroglyph Cuff

One of a kind! This beadwoven cuff is an original design stitched in 1-drop peyote. It was created for the October Etsy Beadweavers' Challenge Theme: Animal Instincts.

I had a fun designing and stitching this OOAK piece. Living on the outskirts of Albuquerque (New Mexico), Petroglyph National Monument is just a short drive away for me. Seeing the ancient symbols scattered throughout the park, etched on large lava boulders, is always an inspiration. This symbol, of an antelope, is stitched in copper metallic Delica beads on a background of bone-white Delicas. The finished cuff is mounted on a base-metal blank (3" wide!), lined with ultrasuede, and is edged with basalt (lava rock) rounds (each of which is capped with a small, copper charlotte). It is a real taste of our local culture!

There are three antelopes on this cuff, each walking under the New Mexico sun and embellished with turquoise, blue, coral, and orange accents. The cuff is a full 3" tall (even taller when you count the lava bead fringe). It fits comfortably on a 6-1/2" wrist.
