ORIGINAL Primitive Pennsylvania German Thanks and Praise hymn Fraktur Inspired by Durs Rudy

$175.00
This fraktur was inspired by a little hymnal that I found at a yard sale one warm summer day. It is palm size, leather bound, a bit crumbly at the edges, printed in the early 1800's. In those days you were expected to bring your own hymnal and Bible to church, and the hymns were all printed like poems, with no music staff or notes. You were also expected to know the tunes...or just follow along as best you can! Pennsylvania German Frakturs often contained scraps of popular hymns, in either German or English. I used some favorite Durs Rudy motifs to decorate the edges.

This hymn reads, "Thanks and praise Jehovah's Name, For his mercies firm and sure. From eternity the same, To Eternity endure. Praise Him ye who know his love, Praise him depths beneath; Praise him in the heights above, Praise your Maker, all that breathe."

This is a good sized picture; the frame measures 22 3/4 inches by 18 3/4 inches and is crackle painted black over a taupe-y Grey. The mat is hand painted by me, and resembles the hills around our place when Autumn is in full glory. The image measures 15 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches. The original price for this picture was $315 on my site.

This painting was done by me on faux aged paper from a company that has been in business since the 1700's, with dip nib pen and ink and painted in colors available to the artist in the early 1800's. I have signed it on the back dust cover.
