Finally! I've been waiting to release this fragrance, it debuted as part of the giveaway bonanaza going on at SoapBoxCo.com. This is my new favorite!
DuBois is a heady, lavish blend of creamy white scents. A mix of gardenia, almond, and egyptian musk with a hint of cinnamon, this fragrance is very luxurious and sophisticated, but still equally appropriate for day or evening. There's something very retro about this scent, it's very ladylike and glamorous, with a bit of a sparkle. I almost feel like a Veronica Lake hairdo should be required with it. White (hopefully faux!) fur and (non-conflict) diamonds are optional.

Now, before you scream COPYRIGHT! at me, I want to remind everyone that the song was supposedly based on a hair dye of the same name. So...if I name my perfume after the hair dye that inspired the song....eh, I dunno. It's fall, I'm in kind of a dark, spooky mood, and who doesn't love a gothy blackberry perfume? Besides, I may change the name to Black #4 anyway, it took me that many tries to get it just where I wanted it.

I think I may have already mentioned that I'm a total blackberry freak? Yep, well here's another of my fall-minded blends, dark and sweet with a mix of blackberry, narcissus, violet, patchouly, and clove. There's also a little hint of rain floating around in there, 'cause it wouldn't be the same without some moody weather.

Yet another nostalgic Southern blend...I'm beginning to think I need to take a trip to Georgia and get it out of my system! This one is a bit different, though, instead of being sweet and humid this scent is bright and fresh. I've blended creamy white magnolia blossom with a surprising kick of yuzu, a sharply tart Japanese citrus. I've used a softly floral white musk to support this fragrance, the whole composition is light, simple, and sophisticated. If you've ever felt that citrus fragrances weren't girly enough, or that white florals were too "narcotic" (ie: headachey), this may be your answer. This perfume sits lightly on the skin, you won't have to worry about people smelling you across the street.

For me, it all started in Little Five Points, Atlanta. On the corner of Euclid and Colquitt stood the Gypsy Market, where my perfume obsession began. Without fail, my husband and I would start fighting in the gawd-awful Atlanta traffic on the way down. I’d arrive all tense and flustered, and within twenty seconds of crossing that threshold, all my worries would melt away. The hot, humid, incense-saturated air seemed to make everything better. I don’t miss the weather, the fire ants, or the wrestling fans, but I still get all nostalgic when I remember the punks, hippies, and gorgeous cowrie-shelled dreadlock mamas that made Little Five the place to be.

My first signature blend, Little 5 is an intoxicating mix of spicy opium-like musk and redolent oriental rose. It opens up with a fresh herbal note of sweetgrass then deepens into its heart of sophisticated rose, finally warming down to its dark dreamy base. I'm so excited about this one!! I've searched for years for the exotic Indian musk I used to wear when I lived in the South, the stuff proved to be spectacularly elusive. Finally, I found it, and in a quantity that would allow me to share it with you all. This stuff is not cheap, but it's so sublimely fabulous, I just had to play around with it.

27, named for my favorite stretch of highway in lower Alabama (seriously, if you ever get the chance, take a drive there on a lightly rainy day in springtime), is memory in a bottle for me. Based primarily around the sexiest, spiciest musk EVER, it contains hints of pine, tomato leaf (if you've been to Alabama, you know about the tomato sandwich!), sweetgrass, woodsmoke, and hemp (shh...). One whiff of this and I'm right back on the road, the Black Crowes blaring on the radio, surrounded by the greenest kudzu and the reddest clay dirt you ever did see.

I stumbled across this scent quite by accident. I was cleaning my fragrance bottles while moving them into my (fabulous!!) new workstation and both the coconut and amber bottles leaked at the same time. I sniffed it, thinking "this has got to be the most awful stench in the world!" and was stopped dead in my tracks. I dropped everything, added in just the right amounts of clove, jasmine, carnation, and sexy red musk and before I knew it I had my new favorite.

Anjali is my tribute to all the amazing Indian musks and attars I started my perfume collection with. It's spicy and incensey, super feminine, and has a warmth and sweetness guaranteed to draw people closer. This is the perfect fragrance to wear as the cool weather closes in on us, it'll put you in the mood to curl up with a cup of chai...or your copy of the kama sutra. ;-)

Don't let the name fool you, this in no way smells medicinal. I've named my men's fragrance after a Black Crowes song that always makes me melt. And it also ties in with the fact that most men's fragrances smell positively awful, like the bastard child of a cheesy disco and the laundry detergent aisle at the supermarket. For this reason, I've given this fragrance a subtitle. Its full name is "Remedy, a refreshingly unappalling fragrance for men". My Remedy to the typical men's scent is warm, woody, and spicy, with notes of cedar, oakmoss, bay rum, and amber.

This business is starting to look more like my own personal fetish confessional than anything else. Well...if it ain't broke...tell 'em another dirty story, I guess. I've had a long standing fixation with all things Russian. I think it started with the Olympics, watching all those eerily beautiful girls with the twelve letter names twirl about. Then again, I'm old enough to remember nuclear disaster drills in second grade, so maybe it's more twisted than that.

Anyway, the fixation turned full fetish in high school when I dated a boy who spoke Russian. I literally melted everytime he whispered in my ear. He went to Russia with his class and brought me back a khohloma box, a Spetsnaz sweater (still wear it), and a story about the universal enormity of Russian men's hands. That sealed it. Now everytime I walk through a stand of birch trees I crave strong tea with lemon, sweet berry jam, and...get a little hot in the pants.

Odessa (which I realize is in Ukraine, forgive my stereotypes) is my tribute to that fantasy. A blend of black tea, cinnamon, and blackberry jam, it's softened with touches of incense, peony and rose. I even included a boozy little kick to keep you warm on these short, cold days.

I've had this on my dresser for over a year! Well, not this particular bottle, you all get fresh ones, of course, but my point is that this formula has been waiting for a name for a very long time.

Speaking of the name...get your minds out of the gutter! If you look closely, there's an extra vowel in there. Puanani is Hawaiian for "beautiful flower", and yes, would in fact appear to be the root of the slang term y'all likely thought you read at first. This fragrance is Hawaiian as all get out, a spicy fresh blend of ginger, ginger blossom and jasmine. Just those three notes, layered over a subtle white musk base. It opens up bitingly bright, then softens into delicate white florals. A truly rare thing, Puanani manages to be unmistakably tropical without any of the sweetness or creaminess that usually mark those sorts of scents.

This is the first in my Burlesque line of scents, inspired by one of the sweetest broads with whom I've ever had the priveledge to peel publicly. Prudence Payne (the person) is all sugar and spice. Every Betty Page lookalike would rip out her carefully blunted bangs if she caught a glimpse of our Prudence, who exudes spun-sugar joy and still rocks a virginal halo in thigh high boots. I'm sure my tribute to her falls far short of the real thing, but I've used innocent sweet pea and provocative cherry for her pink sunshine sweetness. Soft red musk provides a delicate but stable base, and the tiniest bite of sharp black pepper and dark earth give a dirty little kick to balance all that girliness.

I'm not ususally a vanilla person. It's such a classic, feminine, and decadently sexy scent, I've always really wanted to like it...but just couldn't. Well, I've fixed that problem! My Speakeasy Vanilla is another thing altogether, not cloying or overly precious. This vanilla does not wear pigtails. It does not have a "daddy's little girl" lisence plate holder. This vanilla is a grown ass woman who spent a hot, tipsy day in the kitchen, rocking out to Etta James in heels, perfecting her creme brulee. Or something like that...

This fragrance opens up with a bright, intoxicating bourbon vanilla scent then mellows into a softer, creamy vanilla. To balance the sweetness, I've added sultry amber and smokey frankincense. On the very bottom is a delicately floral white musk, and if you're very sharp you may catch the tiny hint of bay rum lurking in the mix.

I had planned to debut this fragrance in early spring, but after a week of being snowed in I decided it was time to make my own darn sunshine. I've had many requests for this perfume, but only recently found just the right combination. Fans of my Apricot Vanilla lip balm will find this scent slightly more floral, but still strikingly sweet. I've filled this perfume out with some mimosa, coriander, white musk, and tiny hints of freesia and caramel. This one is super-sweet and creamy and packed with enough sunny goodness to make us all forget what's going on outside, if only for a moment.

I always wanted to be a voodoo queen. I mean, come on! How cool would that be!? Nobody messes with you when you're spattered with chicken blood. Alas, there were precious few chickens to practice on in suburban Seattle, and my ambitions never bore fruit. ;-)

Marie Laveau, on the other hand, made quite a name for herself in that field. People are still talking about her over a hundred years later, and her influence infuses New Orleans with mystery to this day. This scent is my nod to her and the city I always meant to run away to (and someday will). Belle Marie is a bewitching blend of absinthe, frangipani, kudzu blossom, magnolia, vetiver, oakmoss, and sweetgrass. It's fresh and feminine, deceptively sweet and earthy with a barely-hidden dark side.

I'm so excited to finally release this scent! I've been wearing this one for the last month or so, but have been struggling with the name and then the label design. Finally, I've got it labeled, shot, and ready for all of you!

This is a rich, deep scent, not very sweet at all for those of you who prefer something earthier. A blend of exotic hardwoods and spiced chocolate, Maya is the more finished version of my Mayan Cocoa scent. I've added hints of orchid and plumeria, along with a kick of black pepper to give it a little heat. This fragrance is wild, dark, and mysterious...give it a try and see if you don't get some rather primal reactions!

This fragrance is inspired by a cookie recipe inspired by one of my all-time favorite books. In Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal (the ultra-orthodox may not enjoy this book, but it's a must for anyone with a sense of humor, regardless of where you fall on the religious spectrum), Biff is terminally smitten by Mary Magdalene, called Maggie. He describes her as smelling like lemons and cinnamon, which just stuck in my in head. It occurred to me that this would be a fabulous twist on the classic French madeleine, and that's how my Magdalene cookie was born. My baking skills, however, don't quite match my perfumery, and the idea fell by the wayside until recently.

My first official bakery scent, this one, like my others, has a grown-up twist. Layered into the lemon cookie sweetness are touches of cinnamon, sandalwood, egyptian musk, and soft yellow rose.

Perhaps an odd choice for summer, I just had this oakmoss and wild rose blend stuck in my head for ages and had to get it out. Actually, now that I think about it, it's perfect for our Nothern summers, like hiking in the woods on a sunny, mild day. I've rounded it out with apple blossom and a hint of peony for an earthy floral effect that will make you feel like a leaf-clad wood nymph (though maybe with a bit less moss in your hair).

Okay, so I should go ahead and admit that I have an everlasting gobstopper of a girl crush on Anna May Wong. I haven't even seen that many of her movies (she was gorgeous in Picadilly), it's the old portraits that get me. I have them decoupaged all over my knitting needle box. She was just so darkly, somberly elegant for such a tiny thing. And so far ahead of her time.

Anyway, all my drooling aside, this scent was made to layer with my Kumquat Peony soap. I've had so many requests, but just haven't been able to get it right until now. This one has the peony and green tea notes, but I've also added a generous dose of wisteria layered over white musk, a touch of orchid, a kick of ginger, and the slightest hint of soft incense. Instead of kumquat (which, bless its heart, takes over everything I put it in), I've used lychee for a top note. Overall, this fragrance is soft, floral, and fruity, though somehow still a little dark.

Penelope Perfume Oil 15ml

I've always meant to learn the flamenco. My two left feet, and several extra thumbs, however,have left me too shy to try. So, once again, I've fallen back on my ability to pretend through perfume. Penelope is my spicy Spanish tribute, a blend of blood orange, chypre, black pepper, geranium and neroli. Anchored by the same luxurious musk I used in 27, it contains hints of saffron, honey, and oriental rose.

I won't say whether it's named after any particular Spanish Penelopes, but I will admit that there's one I've pretty much wanted to be since I first say her get busy on a pinball machine in Jamon Jamon (seriously, check it out, it's fabulously dirty and absurd). I think I'd honestly give a pinky finger for that hair...

This is a very complex, sophisticated, "perfumey" perfume. Perfect for sultry summer evenings, Penelope goes well with a plunging neckline and strappy sandals. Just so you know, black lace and red lipstick are, in fact, required. ;-)

I don't know why I didn't do this sooner! One of my lovely wholesale clients requested a perfume adaptation of my Lavender Magnolia Sandalwood bath salts, and it struck me as incredibly silly that such a thing didn't already exist. For those of you who are fans of the salts, this scent is very true to the original. I've added a tiny hint of coriander, because I just can't get enough of the stuff, but that's the only change I've made. On the skin, Martine does somehow become more sophisticated and feminine. Still earthy and mature, but less woody, the four simple notes blend into a lovely white-musky accord of their own. This one really caught me by surprise, I had figured it would be mostly an occasional bedtime scent for me (my olfactory dance card stays pretty full these days), but I've ended up reaching for this one over and over again as I get dressed in the morning. Very womanly, very soothing, and very French with its real Provencal lavender, Martine is deep and sexy in that coveted effortless way.

Okay, so I should go ahead and admit that I have an everlasting gobstopper of a girl crush on Anna May Wong. I haven't even seen that many of her movies (she was gorgeous in Picadilly), it's the old portraits that get me. I have them decoupaged all over my knitting needle box. She was just so darkly, somberly elegant for such a tiny thing. And so far ahead of her time.

Anyway, all my drooling aside, this scent was made to layer with my Kumquat Peony soap. I've had so many requests, but just haven't been able to get it right until now. This one has the peony and green tea notes, but I've also added a generous dose of wisteria layered over white musk, a touch of orchid, a kick of ginger, and the slightest hint of soft incense. Instead of kumquat (which, bless its heart, takes over everything I put it in), I've used lychee for a top note. Overall, this fragrance is soft, floral, and fruity, though somehow still a little dark.

There's a certain quality to the air in the Deep South. I'm not ususally a vanilla person. It's such a classic, feminine, and decadently sexy scent, I've always really wanted to like it...but just couldn't. Well, I've fixed that problem! My Speakeasy Vanilla is another thing altogether, not cloying or overly precious. This vanilla does not wear pigtails. It does not have a "daddy's little girl" lisence plate holder. This vanilla is a grown ass woman who spent a hot, tipsy day in the kitchen, rocking out to Etta James in heels, perfecting her creme brulee. Or something like that...

This fragrance opens up with a bright, intoxicating bourbon vanilla scent then mellows into a softer, creamy vanilla. To balance the sweetness, I've added sultry amber and smokey frankincense. On the very bottom is a delicately floral white musk, and if you're very sharp you may catch the tiny hint of bay rum lurking in the mix.

Some of my favorite memories are from the stretch of highway between San Diego and Seattle. This fragrance is inspired by a cookie recipe inspired by one of my all-time favorite books. In Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal (the ultra-orthodox may not enjoy this book, but it's a must for anyone with a sense of humor, regardless of where you fall on the religious spectrum), Biff is terminally smitten by Mary Magdalene, called Maggie. He describes her as smelling like lemons and cinnamon, which just stuck in my in head. It occurred to me that this would be a fabulous twist on the classic French madeleine, and that's how my Magdalene cookie was born. My baking skills, however, don't quite match my perfumery, and the idea fell by the wayside until recently.

My first official bakery scent, this one, like my others, has a grown-up twist. Layered into the lemon cookie sweetness are touches of cinnamon, sandalwood, egyptian musk, and soft yellow rose.

I had planned to debut this fragrance in early spring, but after a week of being snowed in I decided it was time to make my own darn sunshine. I've had many requests for this perfume, but only recently found just the right combination. Fans of my Apricot Vanilla lip balm will find this scent slightly more floral, but still strikingly sweet. I've filled this perfume out with some mimosa, coriander, white musk, and tiny hints of freesia and caramel. Pronounced (roughly, in my shameful Spanish) kay-ree-da, Querida loosely translates to "loved one" or "secret love". I thought that was the perfect name for a fragrance I can only describe as "super femme". This one is an ultra-soft yet spicy blend of carnation, tuberose, and dulce de leche, over a base of mahogany and white amber. It's extremely feminine but has no shortage of power, personality, or depth. Querida is well balanced, more floriental than anything else, with excellent staying power.

There is a longish and slightly inappropriate story behind the name of this scent, which I won't go into here. What's important to know is that this is a delightfully smooth and man-friendly vanilla musk. I've blended a soft vanilla with a generous helping of woody teak, the tiniest drop of tangerine, and supporting notes of patchouly, hemp, frankincense and chypre. There's something nostalgic about this scent, and for all its sweetness, it has a little edge. Sort of makes me want to do something naughty in the back of a van...
I'm marketing this as a men's scent since it fills a gap in my line, but it's perfectly appropriate for everyone. Ladies, if you enjoy Speakeasy Vanilla by prefer something more casual, give this one a try.

At last! I'm so excited about this scent! I never planned to do another men's scent, I wanted to let Remedy stay my "signature" colonge, but...I got a bee in my bonnet and when my husband suggested the name I knew it was meant to be. It was time for classic, sophisticated Remedy to get a brash, rakish little brother.
Liberty, named after the moment sailors live for when they're turned loose to paint unsuspecting port towns red, is a rowdily fresh scent. This business is starting to look more like my own personal fetish confessional than anything else. Well...if it ain't broke...tell 'em another dirty story, I guess. I've had a long standing fixation with all things Russian. I think it started with the Olympics, watching all those eerily beautiful girls with the twelve letter names twirl about. Then again, I'm old enough to remember nuclear disaster drills in second grade, so maybe it's more twisted than that.

Anyway, the fixation turned full fetish in high school when I dated a boy who spoke Russian. I literally melted everytime he whispered in my ear. He went to Russia with his class and brought me back a khohloma box, a Spetsnaz sweater (still wear it), and a story about the universal enormity of Russian men's hands. That sealed it. Now everytime I walk through a stand of birch trees I crave strong tea with lemon, sweet berry jam, and...get a little hot in the pants.

Odessa (which I realize is in Ukraine, forgive my stereotypes) is my tribute to that fantasy. A blend of black tea, cinnamon, and blackberry jam, it's softened with touches of incense, peony and rose. I even included a boozy little kick to keep you warm on these short, cold days.

Perhaps an odd choice for summer, I just had this oakmoss and wild rose blend stuck in my head for ages and had to get it out. Actually, now that I think about it, it's perfect for our Nothern summers, like hiking in the woods on a sunny, mild day. I've rounded it out with apple blossom and a hint of peony for an earthy floral effect that will make you feel like a leaf-clad wood nymph (though maybe with a bit less moss in your hair).

Don't let the name fool you, this in no way smells medicinal. I've named my men's fragrance after a Black Crowes song that always makes me melt. And it also ties in with the fact that most men's fragrances smell positively awful, like the bastard child of a cheesy disco and the laundry detergent aisle at the supermarket. For this reason, I've given this fragrance a subtitle. Its full name is "Remedy, a refreshingly unappalling fragrance for men". Pronounced (roughly, in my shameful Spanish) kay-ree-da, Querida loosely translates to "loved one" or "secret love". I thought that was the perfect name for a fragrance I can only describe as "super femme". This one is an ultra-soft yet spicy blend of carnation, tuberose, and dulce de leche, over a base of mahogany and white amber. It's extremely feminine but has no shortage of power, personality, or depth. Querida is well balanced, more floriental than anything else, with excellent staying power.

Marie Laveau, on the other hand, made quite a name for herself in that field. People are still talking about her over a hundred years later, and her influence infuses New Orleans with mystery to this day. This scent is my nod to her and the city I always meant to run away to (and someday will). For me, it all started in Little Five Points, Atlanta. On the corner of Euclid and Colquitt stood the Gypsy Market, where my perfume obsession began. Without fail, my husband and I would start fighting in the gawd-awful Atlanta traffic on the way down. I’d arrive all tense and flustered, and within twenty seconds of crossing that threshold, all my worries would melt away. The hot, humid, incense-saturated air seemed to make everything better. I don’t miss the weather, the fire ants, or the wrestling fans, but I still get all nostalgic when I remember the punks, hippies, and gorgeous cowrie-shelled dreadlock mamas that made Little Five the place to be.

I've always meant to learn the flamenco. My two left feet, and several extra thumbs, however,have left me too shy to try. So, once again, I've fallen back on my ability to pretend through perfume. Penelope is my spicy Spanish tribute, a blend of blood orange, chypre, black pepper, geranium and neroli. Anchored by the same luxurious musk I used in 27, it contains hints of saffron, honey, and oriental rose.

I won't say whether it's named after any particular Spanish Penelopes, but I will admit that there's one I've pretty much wanted to be since I first say her get busy on a pinball machine in Jamon Jamon (seriously, check it out, it's fabulously dirty and absurd). I think I'd honestly give a pinky finger for that hair...

This is a very complex, sophisticated, "perfumey" perfume. Perfect for sultry summer evenings, Penelope goes well with a plunging neckline and strappy sandals. Just so you know, black lace and red lipstick are, in fact, required. ;-)

I'm so excited to finally release this scent! I've been wearing this one for the last month or so, but have been struggling with the name and then the label design. Finally, I've got it labeled, shot, and ready for all of you!

This is a rich, deep scent, not very sweet at all for those of you who prefer something earthier. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner! One of my lovely wholesale clients requested a perfume adaptation of my Lavender Magnolia Sandalwood bath salts, and it struck me as incredibly silly that such a thing didn't already exist. For those of you who are fans of the salts, this scent is very true to the original. I've added a tiny hint of coriander, because I just can't get enough of the stuff, but that's the only change I've made. On the skin, Martine does somehow become more sophisticated and feminine. Still earthy and mature, but less woody, the four simple notes blend into a lovely white-musky accord of their own. This one really caught me by surprise, I had figured it would be mostly an occasional bedtime scent for me (my olfactory dance card stays pretty full these days), but I've ended up reaching for this one over and over again as I get dressed in the morning. Very womanly, very soothing, and very French with its real Provencal lavender, Martine is deep and sexy in that coveted effortless way.

This one has been so long in coming! I've been fiddling with this scent for almost a year, and I've finally got it just where I want it. Yet another nostalgic Southern blend...I'm beginning to think I need to take a trip to Georgia and get it out of my system! This one is a bit different, though, instead of being sweet and humid this scent is bright and fresh. I've blended creamy white magnolia blossom with a surprising kick of yuzu, a sharply tart Japanese citrus. I've used a softly floral white musk to support this fragrance, the whole composition is light, simple, and sophisticated. If you've ever felt that citrus fragrances weren't girly enough, or that white florals were too "narcotic" (ie: headachey), this may be your answer. This perfume sits lightly on the skin, you won't have to worry about people smelling you across the street.

I've been working on this so long, and it finally occurred to me that I was overthinking it. I went back to the drawing board and emerged triumphant with a soft, springy cherry blossom blend. I've rounded out the powdery pink floral with egyptian musk, red santal, and hints of fresh cut grass and nag champa. A tart top of pink grapefruit adds freshness.

This scent is inspired by one of my oldest friends (seventh grade locker partners, yo) who happens to share its name. She's worn egyptian musk for as long as I can remember, looks stunning in no makeup at all, and is hardly ever found without at least a little grass in her hair. That's her in the photo, I hope she doesn't mind. (Seriously, she's a wiry thing, I've never beaten her in a fight. ;-)

There's a certain quality to the air in the Deep South. For a few hours in the morning, before it turns to pea soup, Southern air is sweet, balmy, and heavy enough that you can feel its silky touch on your skin. This scent was inspired by one of my first (and best) customers. She's a fan of the Green Apple Mint lip balm and wanted a green apple based bath salt. Being me, I had to find a way to complicate that, and muddled around with many different formulas until it finally hit me...rosemary! Bracingly fresh and deliciously tart, these salts are just the thing for tired muscles.

***Quick note: rosemary essential oil may not be suitable for those who are pregnant, have high blood pressure, or are prone to seizures. This blend only contains a tiny amount, but I thought I'd mention it just the same.***

I use a blend of dead sea salts, atlantic sea salts, and good old fashioned epsom salts to give you a fantastically muscle-relaxing and fragrant soak.

These are nice big bags, I fill them to about 8 ozs by volume, which often ends up being closer to 10 ozs by weight. There should be enough for at least half a dozen baths
