There is a phenomenon that happens at sunset in the tropics called the green flash. Just as the last sliver of the sun disappears, a flash of green light can be seen, but the conditions have to be just right and you have to look carefully to see it.

Large faceted chrysoprase briolette drops have been wrapped with ample gold filled wire and hang on gold filled ear wires. The length is 1 3/8".

This necklace features black baroque (irregular shaped) freshwater pearls with iridescent flashes of color that remind me of the sparkling black sand at Punalu'u. In Japanese, Umiko means child of the sea. This is a simple, delicate ankle bracelet featuring aqua green amazonite rounds. The amazonite beads are wire wrapped between lengths of long and short chain and finished with a lobster claw clasp. All metal components are sterling silver. Pearls are often referred to as Aphrodite's tears of joy or dew drops filled with moonlight. Freshwater peacock rice pearls with peach overtones and tiny peach seed pearl spacers are strung on sturdy nylon coated steel wire. I spent a considerable amount of time arranging the peacock pearls from large to small, which adds significantly to the beauty of the necklace. I named this necklace half moon bay because the front half of the necklace forms a crescent of rainbow spinel in shades from mauve to the palest pink. I spent a lot of time arranging the stones in the rainbow pattern. The necklace features a wire wrapped Lapidolite pendant, and is finished with hill tribe fine silver beads and sterling silver chain and lobster claw clasp. It is adjustable from 16"-18".

Spinel is a hard gemstone that is often mistaken for rubies (rubies are a 9 and spinel is a 7-8 on the Mohs scale). While less valuable than rubies, they are still valuable (and pricey) gemstones.

Lepidolite is a mauve stone with a crystalline structure, and the stone I used displays a slight flash when the sun hits it just right.

Mimosa's are most well known as a cocktail of champagne and orange juice popular at Sunday brunch. But, mimosa's are also trees common in the southern United States with spreading umbrella-shaped canopies of delicate complex leaves and lovely pink blossoms.

My delicate Mimosa necklace features pink and mauve spinel arranged in a rainbow pattern on handmade chain links of gold filled wire. The necklace is finished with a gold filled lobster claw clasp, and is adjustable up to 18" by fastening the clasp onto any of the chain links.

Most of the time sunsets are orange, but sometimes in the tropics you get wonderful pinks and purples. This necklace reminds me of a lavender sunset over turquoise water. I combined rainbow fluorite, amethyst and Bali beads on handmade chain links and finished it with a Hill Tribe fine silver toggle clasp. All other metal components are sterling silver. The pendant has an occlusion which flashes iridescence when held in the sunlight. Total length is 18".

The original millefiori made in Italy is somewhat expensive. These beads are from India, and are much more affordable. The beads are multicolored and the flowers remind me of a coral garden.
