From time to time, I feel extraordinarily ordinary. Amidst such beautiful work, humbled by far more experienced and creative artists, I find myself shrinking smaller and smaller, fading into the background. I feel the insecurities and fears well up inside of me, grasping hold of my heart and my spirit, whispering of mediocrity and drowning me in doubt.

And it is in this last moment, when I feel I might give in, that the warm and careful hands of those I love dearest, strangers I have only met through convos and avatars and wonderfully compassionate artists, pull me up and dust me off, reminding me that being Ordinary can be itself, Extraordinary.

I shop for frilly kitten heels I'll probably only wear twice, but will keep for years because I simply can't part with them. I play with make-up and dab on perfume, hoard handbags and adore the color pink. I love reading fashion magazines and having flowers in every room of the house. I'm unquestionably girly, but as I've come to find, there is truly the Art of Femininity.

When my grandmother passed on four years ago, I found myself rummaging through photos and dear memories as I sorted out her belongings. Among the boxes of books and papers, perfume bottles and clothes, I found a small glass locket filled with an old picture of her family inside. The lasting legacy of her family, perfectly preserved between glass and aged silver.

This sterling silver locket reminds me so much of my grandmother's. Beautifully beveled glass accented with shining sterling silver make this locket an heirloom in the making. I've always been a Museum girl. Something about going to a place where touching something is strictly prohibited, uniformed persons enforce no picture taking and there's always the quiet murmur of discussion going on about the pieces on display. I grew up in a house where clothes were handed down through siblings and cousins and where the home was shared with aunts, uncles and grandparents. Christmas was never one where brightly wrapped boxes were piled in tilting heaps beneath the tree. Food was not wasted and time was well spent.

It was a place where frivolous behavior was not rewarded and true appreciation for both opportunities and possessions reigned. This is why, I think, the first pearl necklace I ever got from my parents was so memorable. A simple pearl dangling from a delicate sterling chain. It was simply perfect.

Whenever I travel by myself (which is actually, fairly often), I inevitably get the concerned "You shouldn't do that" sort of talk from my parents and friends. But I think traveling by oneself is actually quite important - you learn to rely on yourself and explore the world without any reminders of the world you left behind, straggling along side of you. Such was my experience with perhaps my favorite city in the world - Paris.

Roaming the quaint streets of Paris was nothing less than exceptional. Beautifully laid out produce, handmade goods and a irresistible bakery littered the Rue Cler market beneath the setting sun, where I met another American couple visiting Paris on their way to England. Afterwards, I met George, the keeper of the most delightful little restaurant you'll ever find, tucked far and deep in the small walkways of Paris where he serves you dinner in a dining room so quaint it's as if you were in his very own home. It's the most marvelous experience... being Le American Girl in Paris.

Standing upon the hills above Florence, looking down upon the famed city that is home to the David and the famed Duomo is surprisingly peaceful. Gone are the rustling of bags, the patter of feet along its sidewalks and the whoosh of cars and motorcyclists upon the streets.

If you take the path hidden up through the many winding roads and quaint neighborhoods, and hike through the tall willowy trees past where Leonardo da Vinci tested his flying machines and just after the 14th century villa, you might catch a glimpse of it - The Hundred Year Old Olive Tree.

In the oldest olive grove in the hills of Tuscany, she stands, basking in the glow of another Italian summer day. Split down her trunk to allow for more sunshine to be absorbed (a trait which affects the quality of the olive, I was told), she stands solid yet graceful, having weathered a century of peace and war, sunshine and storm. She is truly a sight to behold.

The Hundred Year Old Olive Tree Earrings are composed of two dainty sterling silver leaves dangling from sterling silver ear wires hammered and formed by my own hand. They dangle just a freckle over 1.25" (3 cm) and are light as a feather. They really are just a delight to wear!

As a young woman trying to find her way through life, I have found myself a bit lost and in unchartered territories on more than one occasion. Though I've often been uncertain about what to do in these situations, I have always listened to the little voice in my heart of hearts. And though I've made my share of mistakes, I have never once regretted following the Compass of the Heart.

I grew up in a house where clothes were handed down through siblings and cousins and where the home was shared with aunts, uncles and grandparents. Christmas was never one where brightly wrapped boxes were piled in tilting heaps beneath the tree. Food was not wasted and time was well spent.

It was a place where frivolous behavior was not rewarded and true appreciation for both opportunities and possessions reigned. This is why, I think, the first pearl necklace I ever got from my parents was so memorable. A simple pearl dangling from a delicate sterling chain. It was simply perfect.

When I was young, I would slip outside into the backyard and climb the sloping hillside littered in daisies. I'd scour through the low leaves and bushes, examining each and every daisy before moving onto the next. And when at last I had found the perfect flower, I would pluck it from its comfortably leafy home. Standing upon the hills above Florence, looking down upon the famed city that is home to the David and the famed Duomo is surprisingly peaceful. Gone are the rustling of bags, the patter of feet along its sidewalks and the whoosh of cars and motorcyclists upon the streets.

If you take the path hidden up through the many winding roads and quaint neighborhoods, and hike through the tall willowy trees past where Leonardo da Vinci tested his flying machines and just after the 14th century villa, you might catch a glimpse of it - The Hundred Year Old Olive Tree.

In the oldest olive grove in the hills of Tuscany, she stands, basking in the glow of another Italian summer day. Split down her trunk to allow for more sunshine to be absorbed (a trait which affects the quality of the olive, I was told), she stands solid yet graceful, having weathered a century of peace and war, sunshine and storm. She is truly a sight to behold.

The Hundred Year Old Olive Tree Earrings are composed of two dainty sterling silver leaves dangling from beautifully sleek sterling silver ear posts. They dangle just a freckle over 1.25" (3 cm) and are light as a feather. They really are just a delight to wear!

It all started with a rose.

Tucked away just beneath the mountains among the apple orchards, the little town of Julian is usually passed unnoticed throughout the year. In the late winter, just before the green of spring began poking up through the snow covered ground, you can find the cheery glow emanate from the apple pie shop that serves every type of apple pie possible (thirty different types I believe, when I last visited). The darling humble but well-kept café down the only snow covered street of the tiny town, serving hot chocolate in wide-mouthed mugs piled high with an endless heap of tiny marshmallows.

Here is where I would spend my winter weekends, hidden in my own world away from the whooshing cars and the impatient shoppers. I'd tuck myself into a corner of the tiny café with a warmed apple cider and watch the winter snow drift down from the leaves of the trees.

I grew up in a house where clothes were handed down through siblings and cousins and where the home was shared with aunts, uncles and grandparents. Christmas was never one where brightly wrapped boxes were piled in tilting heaps beneath the tree. Food was not wasted and time was well spent.

It was a place where frivolous behavior was not rewarded and true appreciation for both opportunities and possessions reigned. This is why, I think, the first pearl necklace I ever got from my parents was so memorable. A simple pearl dangling from a delicate sterling chain. It was simply perfect.

I've always been a Museum girl. Something about going to a place where touching something is strictly prohibited, uniformed persons enforce no picture taking and there's always the quiet murmur of discussion going on about the pieces on display. I know it must sound rather odd. But I've always enjoyed the sort of resounding amount of respect one finds for old things in Museums - the way they are cherished and protected.

And I myself am a bit different in Museums. Quiet and subdued, the perfect picture of the young woman, ladylike in manner and pose, gazing at some of the prettiest things I've ever seen.
