The flower dangles are just over 4" long; the flowers themselves are about 1.5" across. They will twist some while dangling, as pictured--all the better to see them from different angles! The hair fork is silver plate over brass, which makes it a solid alternative for you people who break the normal wooden sticks.

The Hornet--red and black scale maille flower barrettes

This week, a hornet with this color scheme decided it would take over my porch and terrorize my dogs. Unfortunately for it, my one dog thinks of hornets in the same way some people think of hot peppers--zesty, but a good snack.

In memoriam . . .

One pair of metal scale maille flowers (in my own design) on silver-plated barrette clips. The flowers are made with bright and anodized aluminum, so they'll never rust or discolor. They're so lightweight you'll forget you're wearing them, are more than sturdy enough to push on for barrette fastening, and are attached with heavy-duty links to be sure they stay in place without any worries about faulty, melty, runny glues!

The barrettes are 2 1/4" long including the flowers; the flowers are about 1 1/2" wide. Tape measure is not included. Some rings will show some scuff marks from my pliers; sorry, I can't polish them away.

One brass-studded leather cuff, decorated with bright aluminum chainmaille and various keys in brass and white metal.

The cuff has two buttons; one sets the circumference at approximately 7.5", the second sets it at approximately 9". The keys are long enough to jangle but not long enough to get in the way, and the cuff is sturdy enough to stand the rigors of the work day. (I know; I tested it.) I know I've sold a lot of these guys to steampunkers . . . but I still just like how it looks with jeans.

The flower dangles are 2.75" long each; the flowers themselves are about 1.5" across. They will twist some while dangling, as shown in the next to last picture--all the better to see them from different angles! The hair sticks are made of stained wood, with silver-plated eye pins that I glued in with industrial-strength epoxy. They're solidly in there--I tugged on them to be sure!

Bloomin' Industry--bronze and silver scale maille geared flower ring

One flower ring, made of bright and anodized aluminum, held together with a coppery zinc-plated lock washer, and attached to an antiqued-silver-plated adjustable ring base. The ring fits sizes 6-8; the flower is about 1.5" wide.

I hand-make and quality-test all items here, so I can say that this ring is pretty darn sturdy. The aluminum wire twists holding the flower to the ring base are smooth to the touch, and the ring is amazingly lightweight for its size. Use of aluminum means the flower will not rust or tarnish, ever. Also, the ring base for my own personal flower ring has not turned my finger green--and as my body chemistry tends to eat through most metals, it's extremely likely that your finger won't turn green either.

One 16" necklace (with 2" extension, total 18"--this is made with little necks in mind!), made of bright and anodized aluminum in Byzantine weave, then finished with a silver-plated lobster claw clasp.

Bright aluminum is great! It's extra-light, super-shiny, and won't corrode or rust--and if the silver rings start to dull down any, a minute in the sink with some dish soap'll brighten them back up in seconds. The colored rings are in extremely saturated colors that are sure to draw attention!

One pair of super-lightweight earrings, made of bright and anodized aluminum and finished off with aluminum scales for extra shine. These earrings are just over 3" in length from the top of the earring wire to the base, and 7/8" inch wide at their widest points.

This set is hung from a pair of surgical steel earring hooks, so metal-sensitive people need not fear! The fact that they're made from bright aluminum also means that they will not rust or tarnish, and weight-wise, there's nothing to them. I make a habit of putting my aluminum earrings in people's hands at shows, just so they can see how light they really are. The people are always pleasantly surprised!

The silvery-gold flowers here look different depending on the lighting & surrounding objects. In these shots and beside the green they look more gold. Beside the pink, they look more pink. Then on some days they look silver. It's a neat effect.

(These things are really in there--I tug on them to be sure!)

These particular sticks seem to work best for people with thin or fine hair, as they're not really long enough to hold really long, really heavy hair as well as the thinner sticks. The way their skinny little ends taper to wider sticks means that their going into a bun of thin or fine hair will tighten it up and thus make it hold more sturdily. (Plus people who frequently break hair sticks are more likely to do a number on these ones' ends.) That being said--if you go with the cheater method and wrap your bun in hair elastic before putting these in, they'll stay put anyway!

A pair of 8.5" black bamboo hair sticks with super-shiny dangles made from quartz chips on silver plated wire, one large silver-plated key charm and smaller white metal key charms, and a pink crackle quartz focal, attached to eye screws that've been cemented in with industrial-strength epoxy. (These things are in there for the long haul!)

To make these guys, I started off with a pair of disposable chopsticks. Then I rounded off the points until they would go through hair easily and spray-painted them black, then drilled the flat ends and glued in the eye pins with hardcore 2-ton jeweler's epoxy.

These particular sticks seem to work best for people with long and/or thick hair. They don't hold finer hair as well as the forks or fatter sticks. That being said--if you go with the cheater method and wrap your bun in hair elastic before putting these in, they'll stay put anyway!

Sale--Kuchi beading and maille fusion belt

One very sturdy bellydance belt made of bright aluminum in king's weave, decorated with mobius balls, kuchi coins, and little tribal beaded dangles. It's surprisingly light for all the stuff that's on it, and the little dangles really fly!

The belt is 37" of weave and heavy-duty silver-plated lobster claw clasp, and also has a 3" extension; it fits up to 40". If you need it to be bigger or smaller, let me know and I'll adjust for labor and/or materials. The black beaded dangles hang 3" from the bottom of their diamonds and the blue dangles hang 4".

Did I mention that bright aluminum is great? It's ultra-light, doesn't rust, doesn't turn black or green, and can usually be washed with dish soap if it gets sticky/not as shiny. I wouldn't recommend putting this particular belt into the sink because of the dangles, but if it really needs cleaned then a wipedown with a damp sponge would definitely be a-okay!

one of a kind turtle, key, and maille hair sticks

A pair of 8.5" black bamboo hair sticks with super-light, itty-bitty dangles made from bright and anodized aluminum jump rings, a key charm, and a wriggly cutey cloisonne turtle, attached to eye screws that've been cemented in with industrial-strength epoxy. (These things are in there for the long haul!)

The light purple rings in the chainmaille weave are mis-anodized--they're colorfast but are a significantly lighter color than the rings I usually work with, and thus are an extreme oddity. I only had two. While I may replicate this design at some point, I'll likely never have a chance to replicate this set.

A pair of 6" stained wood hair sticks with dangles made from bright aluminum, vintage clock parts, and white metal keys, attached to eye pins that've been glued in with super-hardcore jeweler's epoxy. (This stuff is ridiculous and I love it!)

I hand-twisted the spiral rings to properly hold these dangles on; I took clocks apart for the gears; I chased them all across the house when I hit the wrong spring and the things exploded all over the place. As vintage pieces the gears may show some wear or imperfections, but that's all part of their appeal.

These particular sticks seem to work best for people with thin or fine hair, as they're not really long enough to hold really long, really heavy hair as well as the thinner sticks. The way their skinny little ends taper to wider sticks means that their going into a bun of thin or fine hair will tighten it up and thus make it hold more sturdily. One 18" necklace (with 2" extension, total 20"), made of bright and anodized aluminum in Byzantine weave. The lobster claw clasp is silver-plated, and the bells at the end of the extension are silver-tone. The 2.5" pendant here is one of my own (accidental) design: another subversion of inverted aura weave, finished with a bright aluminum scale.

The electric blue and dark meadow green makes it perfect for a water sign, and the fact that it's aluminum means that it's extra-light, super-shiny, and won't rust--and if the silver rings start to dull down any, a minute in the sink with some dish soap'll brighten them back up in seconds.

One necklace, 19" long (with 1.5" extension; 20.5" total), made out of bright aluminum and anodized aluminum with a silver-plated lobster claw clasp, studded with coins and copper bells, and topped off with one-of-a-kind hand-cast resin bottles. This serious business necklace is certain to get attention, whether it be part of a bellydance costume, a steampunk ensemble, or just over a plain black shirt for extra impact.

I filled the 1.75" tall bottles with resin and all sorts of steampunky neatness: keys, springs, washers, metal tubes and leaves, and a big ol' clock part I don't know the name for. The cork is stuck on with resin as well. They're neat to look at from all angles--the little bits inside seem different each time. The mixed-weave necklace is made of sturdy large-gauge rings, yes--but don't let the gauges fool you! Since they're aluminum, the end result is really light--and also will not rust or tarnish. (The copper bells, though, will dull a little with time and handling--much like a copper coin.)

One pair of metal scale maille flowers on silver-plated barrette clips. The flowers are made with bright and anodized aluminum in colors reminiscent of a drink umbrella (or that parrot you really don't need to get into a yelling match with), so they'll never rust or discolor. They're so lightweight you'll forget you're wearing them, are more than sturdy enough to push on for barrette fastening, and are attached with heavy-duty 14-gauge links to be sure they stay in place without any worries about faulty, melty, runny glues!

The barrettes are 2 1/4" long including the flowers; the flowers are about 1 1/2" wide. Some rings will show some scuff marks (as seen in pics) from my pliers; sorry, I can't polish them away. Quarter is for scale and is not included.

One flower ring, made of bright and anodized aluminum and attached to an antiqued-silver-plated adjustable ring base. The ring fits sizes 6-8; the flower is about 1.5" wide.

I hand-make and quality-test all items here, so I can say that this ring is pretty darn sturdy. The aluminum wire twists holding the flower to the ring base are smooth to the touch, the ends are carefully hand-bent and flattened so they won't snag on skin, and the ring is amazingly lightweight for its size. The flowers' being made of aluminum means the flower will not rust or tarnish, ever. Also, the ring base for my own personal flower ring has not turned my finger green--and as my body chemistry tends to eat through most metals, it's extremely likely that your finger won't turn green either.

One huge and clunky double-looped bright aluminum necklace in the flowers & cages variant of Byzantine weave. It's all the look of heavy metal without the weight!

This necklace's inner loop is 16.25" long with a 2" extender, ended with a kuchi coin and a silver-plated Metal Madness lobster clasp. If you need it to be longer or shorter, let me know--customization is no problem!

Also remember that taking care of bright aluminum is really easy: It doesn't rust, rarely leaves any ruboff behind, and if it starts to be a little dull all it needs is a quick bath in some water and dish soap!

The hair fork is silver plate over brass, which makes it a solid alternative for you people who break the normal wooden sticks.

This set would be perfect for someone who likes the look of big earrings, but hates the usual weight! These flowers, about 1.5" across each, are made of bright and anodized aluminum for rust- and tarnish-free color along with super-light weights! Seriously, these things will astound you with their lightness.

These flowers are attached to surgical steel earring wires that've been picked to be inconspicuous. You won't see them from the front. Also, surgical steel minimizes the chances of any people with metal sensitivities having a bad reaction.

One 9.25" anklet (with 1.25" extension, total 10.5"), made with bright aluminum and copper-colored anodized aluminum jump rings in a snakey 4-in-1 weave, decorated with copper-plated and silver-tone gypsy bells, and finished with a hand-twisted aluminum hook clasp.

Let's talk materials: Bright aluminum is great! It's extra-light, super-shiny, and won't rust--and if it starts to dull down any, a minute in the sink with some dish soap'll brighten it back up in seconds! The copper-colored bells are copper-plated--so expect them to dull down a little with age and handling, like a penny--but the copper-colored jump rings are anodized aluminum and have kept their shine for me. And the noise! You'll jingle every time you step. This is one of the happiest types of anklet I've ever made.

An extra-huge 34" pair of cowrie falls made with acrylic yarn, 108 cowries per fall in sets of 7, 13, and 7 (for a whopping total of 216), sea-green hand-made glass beads, and a handful of little silver-tone gypsy bells for extra jingle. These falls are each finished with a skinny, bell-decorated tassel in dark blue and green acrylic yarn.

This set warrants a warning, though: They're really heavy, so without proper support these falls'd probably give you a killer headache. (I learned this the hard way from my first pair!) Lots of hair sticks can help take care of the weight, and their top loops should make it easy to attach them to a headdress. But remember: if they're attached to your head and you spin, you're that much likely to knock out your neighbor!

One pair of dangly lightweight maille earrings, matched up with a pair of similarly decorated hair sticks. Because hey--why be a little bit shiny when you can go all out?

The 2" dangles are made of bright aluminum, and the colored links here are anodized aluminum. This means they're ridiculously lightweight, no matter their looks. They're done in Byzantine weave for a bit of elegance, then finished with a shiny little mobius ball. Also, since they're made of aluminum, they'll never rust or tarnish--and if they ever dull down a little, a careful wash with some dish soap will brighten them up again! (I'd recommend the wash more for the earrings than the hair sticks, understandably.)

The 6" hair sticks are made of stained wood, with silver-plated eye pins that I glued in with industrial-strength adhesive. They're solidly in there--I tugged on them to be sure! The earring hooks are made of surgical steel, so if you have weird reactions to metal you should be okay!

Cup and coin are for scale and display, and are not included.

The jingle from the gypsy bells isn't very obtrusive, either. (I made a set of these for myself first, and tested them out so you guys wouldn't get any unhappy surprises.) There's barely any sound unless you shake your head or play with them. It's not at all like wearing a wind chime.

I made these as a smaller-sized, more jingly variant of my shaggy drops Kuchi fusion earrings. I turned out a few others variations while I was at it, in a number of different colors. If you don't see the color you like here, let me know and I'll see if I can make a set that better suits you!

turquoise and jingles hair sticks

A pair of 6" stained wood hair sticks with 2" dangles made from silver-plated wire, crackle glass beads, and turquoise, attached to eye pins that've been glued in with industrial-strength craft adhesive. (They're pretty sturdy--I tugged on 'em to be sure!) The dangles are finished off with silver-tone gypsy bells for that extra jingle.

I hand-matched these sticks as closely as possible, then carefully hand-picked the beads and hand-twisted the wire. This set makes a happy jingling noise when you move, and would definitely add some flair to your hairstyle!
